Comments: I have been a fan of Michael Crawford for years and received the Phantom CD as a gift in 1991. It is one of my most treasured CDs. I was finally able to see The Phantom of the Opera in NYC in June of this year -- a dream come true. Although the cast was superb, there can never be another Phantom like Michael Crawford. I would LOVE to see him star in the movie version.

Comments: First saw the phantom this year. Can't believe it took me so long. Then I got the original sound track.

Their voices together are magic. No other production or recording has that power. You can't make this movie with anyone other than Michael Crawford as the phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christine.

It would be utterly worthless, a pale copy.

Comments: Yeah. I'm back. Its been a while since i've spoken on this issue w/ the rest of you all. Well, I've spoken to one of the French teachers at my school and told her about the movie. She asked if they had cast Micheal Crawford. I just kind of stared at her for a moment, and said, 'No, unfourtunetly they havent.' she said she remembered when Micheal first started as Phantom. I went O_O. It just goes to show you how much effect one man can have over the country and the world. (besides government leaders)

This site is a great cause! I agree competely that Michael Crawford should have been the Phantom in the movie, however, it was planned for him to be providing they had made the film back in 1990 or thereabouts.

For some reason, it has taken them so many years (over a decade) to sort the movie that the age difference between Michael and the chosen Christine is too great (16yrs as opposed to 62 years old) which I understand is the reason why Michael Crawford was reluctantly not cast. This is however a great shame, as like many agree, Michael Crawford has only and will only ever be the greatest Phantom that ever lived. I'm collecting all the soundtracks from different casts all over the globe and nothing has come close.

A small concelation for me is seeing Michael himself on stage in The Woman In White this November.

In closing, one can only hope the Phantom Of The Opera Movie 2004 pays justice to its longstanding legend on the stage.

I take it that the film is all set to go ahead or actually been done - WITHOUT Michael in it I am ABSOLUTELY disgusted. HE made the musical the legend that it is. There can be no other actor give this role the professionalism and respect that Michael brought to it. I hope that they lose money big time it would serve them right!!!!

His excellence on the stage far outshines any other actor I have seen (X Michael Fan) though I'm not bias!!! Comments: Its like true art has been replaced by a fake. I love Phantom of the Opera and for me its incomplete and unreal without Michael C. Andrew Lloyd Weber loves money more than music it is evident even though I don't know him I know the breed. He has been busy commercialising the arts for a living. The music can be played again and again many more Andrews will come an go but there will never be another Michael Crawford.

Comments: I do agree that the perfect man for the role of the Phantom is Micheal Crawford but as the filming for The Phantom of the Opera has been completed there is no point in missing it just to make a point. Although anybody other than Micheal Crawford is a dissapointment, we still watch the show in London without him in it. Although the film won't be the best, it's worth a look with it's all star cast. Furthermore, we haven't really considered the possibility that Mr Crawford no longer wants to be the Phantom. For those wanting to see him perform again, you may want to book a ticket for the new musical 'The Woman in White'. Let's all take a trip to London, and see the angel of music sing again.

Comments: As being the one who started it all, Michael Crawford has every right to take the lead role as the character he so brought to life, the phantom of the opera. If he is not given this oppourtunity to play this role in a major motion picture, he will suffer a great injustice, and the world will be deprived of his beautiful talent. Comments: I totally agree that MC should have the right to play Erik aka Phantom. He blew me away when I first heard him sing. I was so inspired that I myself am trying to get an audition to Phantom of the Opera as Christine. MC made my spirit soar. I'm sure he is heartbroken because he was not chosen.
