Comments: Well. I'm here again. The phantom of the Opera w/o M.C. is like the phan of the opera! M.C. puts the "tom" on phantom!f he's not in the movie, they should call it the phan of the opera. It'll never be the same.

Comments: This is a tragedy! Not many could play this role as well as M. Crawford.

I believe "Andrew" should re-think the casting of this movie.

Comments: How sad to think that Michael Crawford will not be playing the role of the Phantom...I have loved his work over the years, but have loved his role as the Phantom best of all. My best wishes to Mr. Crawford and I look forward to his future endeavors.

Comments: There have been many who have played the Phantom around the world, some very good and others not. The only one who IS THE PHANTOM IS MICHAEL CRAWFORD. Have enjoyed listening to him for years. If Michael is not cast as the Phantom in the upcoming movie, I will not pay money to see the movie!!

Comments: Having seen the "Phantom" on two occasions Michael Crawford MUST be cast in the leading role. He has an amazing voice and such an tremendous acting ability that he brings the role to life like no other could. The film would just not be the box office smash it could be without Michael starring in it!

Comments: Here I'm supposed to write something really touching and moving about how much I want Michael to play the Phantom... But I can't. I really DO want him but I'm just a 14-year old girl from one of the smallest countries in the world and therefor not very big with words. Michael will not be playing in the phantom-movie.

It's over now. The Music of The Night...

Comments: I think that Michael Crawford should play the Phantom in film because he has such an amazing and inspiring voice that should be able to be put on film, that way he could always be remembered. He did a great job when acting on stage, maybe now he should act on camera.

Comments: I have not had the chance to see the Phantom of the Opera yet, but I have 2 friends who recently have got me HOOKED on the CD's that I borrowed from one of them. Micheal does an EXCELLENT job as is on the CDs. To have him in a film would just be SPLENDID!!! Most of the time when spending hours on end listening to the CDs, I can rarely listen to a song that doesn't have him included in it for very long. He's Absolutly SPECTACULAR!!!!!

Comments: When I hear that someone other than Michael Crawford is to be the Phantom for this new movie, my heart crumbles. I, who have never seen the man perform on stage before but has heard him through his CDs to be enchanted by his voice forever, am extremely disappointed at ALW and all who are to make this film. I hope that they will understand in time before they make a crucial mistake that Michael Crawford is the ONLY one who can bring the Phantom (mind, body, and most importantly, soul) to the silver screen with as much emotion as he has always done in his performances. Many fans wish this to be so, and I am no different. My wish is to see the Phantom of the Opera with my own eyes...with Michael Crawford as the man who is the legend.

Comments: I have seen the show only once with Michael Crawford in the lead and twice without him and there is only ONE true Phantom, Michael Crawford. His portrayal of the role that night moved me to tears and it was a performance I will never forget. To have a film version of the musical without him as the Phantom would be like Ben Hur without Charlton Heston or The Lord of the Rings without the Ring. Anyone other than Michael Crawford would be second rate and I don't care who it was... they couldn't improve on the perfect Phantom!

Comments: My mom promised me to see the Phantom of the opera musical. When I heard there was a film, I was delighted! But when I heard MC won't be the phantom, I knew it wouldn't be quite the success. But I agree with most people on this, MC is the original phantom. Just like the original london cast of Cats, it should remain original. I hope WB will try and make MC the phantom plus maybe the whole original cast all together. It will sound like the musical, and many fans, like me, will be pleased.

Comments: Dear Diane and Campaign Members,

With the popularity and success of the 'top ten' lists that David Letterman regularly introduces on this television show and others who have copied the format, I guess I'll finalize my feelings about the movie with a top ten list of my own.

TOP 10 REASONS WHY I WON'T GO TO THE NEW ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA MOVIE:

1. I don't want to see just another Phantom horror movie! 2. I don't want a reinvention of the story from the stage production! 3. I don't want talking parts that weren?t in the original stage production! 4. I don't want new music or updated orchestrations! 5. I don't want lower key arrangements to accommodate the non-singers! 6. I want real singers to sing all the roles! 7. I want a faithful recreation of the stage musical preserved on film! 8. I want to see a movie that I someday will want to own on DVD with great 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound! 9. I want Michael Crawford to be the Phantom! 10. The most important reason I won?t invest the time and money to see The Phantom of the Opera movie is because director, Joel Schumacher, told me not to come!

What arrogance! And from that arrogance, we will get the extra motivation to carry on. No one likes to be told to stay home, especially by someone who must rely on our patronage to make his business venture a success.

By the great number of members of your campaign and the very large number of those who have seen the stage production, we, together, can still have a big effect on the success of this movie. Besides word of mouth and newspaper ads, we should have a t-shirt campaign to help advertise the boycott. Joel Schumacher's remark could be the rallying call for us to continue the fight and the impetus to anger potential movie goers into just staying home. I suggest that t-shirts be made with a top ten list and/or with the Schumacher remark to help advertise the boycott. Members could buy the shirt from the campaign and make it easy for others to get the information to order also. It may be the step that will generate interest again in this campaign.

Sincerely, James A. Yacobacci

Comments: I am in love with the phantom of the opera, obsessed would be a better term, and all because of Michael Crawford. I have every one of his cd's and he is my favorite singer and no one comes close to his vocals and how passionately he puts his heart and soul into his music. How could anyone replace the original on screen but him. As for him being too old, he is like a fine wine, better with age. The phantom is masked and disfigured; no one could tell his age with all the make up it requires to make the phantom, You would not be able to tell his age. I think he is beautiful no matter how old he is, inside and out. Only Michael could be the phantom. He is the one all of us fell in love with when TPOTO opened and no one can replace him. Even with all the different actors who play the Phantom now on Broadway it still is not the same as Michael as the Phantom. He is enchanting and mesmorizing. And as for me (#1 Michael Crawford fan in the world), only he can be the Phantom on the silver screen. Please reconsider Mr Webber. It would be a dream to see The Phantom of the Opera made into a movie and even more overwhelming to see Michael again as the Phantom. I love you Michael Crawford and only you could be the Phantom of the Opera!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: The first time I heard the Phantom was when I was six years old. It was on a car journey and to stop me from making noise mum gave me a tape and told me to put it on my walkman and be quiet! She had however given me the wrong tape, but that changed my life forever. I remember hearing Michael Crawford's voice for the first time and even back then it really moved me and made my hair stand on end. Only when my mother heard me sobbing in the back of the car did she realise what she had given me. But from that day forth I was hooked. My dream was to play Christine next to Michael and I took singing lessons just to be able to do it. When I was eighteen my boyfriend took me to see Phantom for the first time..and it was amazing but it was not the same as when Michael was the Phantom. I pray for the day when I can actually see Michael Crawford playing the lead again so my imagination can truly come to life. Nobody will ever take his place as the Phantom and I will wait on baited breath until that day comes! Please bring him back!

Comments: Michael Crawford was the original phantom. why??? because he has an amazing voice and charm to him. he captures the character of the phantom like no one else I have seen on the stage. just listening to the album and not seeing him, I can see what he does, and the emotion he puts into his performance. he is a very posed person, and amazing talent. let him be the original film phantom because he will capture the audience(especially those who have never seen it on stage)with that magic only he can give. please cast him as the phantom!!!!! andrew do it for the fans that love your show!!!!

Comments: Dear all readers of this message, My birthday just passed. I got many wonderful gifts. But the one gift I want is for Mr. Crawford to be in the Phantom movie. His voice is the voice that I learned to love as I would listen to him sing on the C.D. for hours and hours. He makes me understand the real purpose of the play, the songs, even the purpose of the Phantom himself! He is wonderful, and I know that everyone on this site would back me up when I say this, so listen up: YOU CAN PUT ANYONE IN THE MOVIE (I would prefer Mr. Crawford, but anyway,), BUT NO ONE BUT MR. CRAWFORD CAN REALLY BRING THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT! MICHAEL CRAWFORD FOR PHANTOM: THE TRUE MAN BEHIND THE MASK!

Comments: Although I have been looking forward to the Phantom movie for quite some time, it is rather disappointing that something holding so much promise could be made less by careless casting. I could listen to Michael Crawford sing anytime. I don't know anything about about the stars of the upcoming Warner Bros. movie.

Comments: "Like no other star in Britain, Crawford is a definition of the theatre at its most sentimental and its most courageous... The Phantom has more than its fair share of breathtaking theatrical moment... but in the end, you have to care about the Phantom himself, for his is the music of the night" Sheridan Morley, Playbill

That was then...

As for now, I seriously doubt the "movie", as it is now being filmed, will get any thing close to this kind of review.

There is no Phantom but Michael Crawford.

I want the Phantom I was promised!

To hell with these children playing at Halloween!

Comments: I did not have the chance to see Mr Crawford's performace on stage when Phantom was here in Los Angeles. However I have the CD from the play and I just love his performace. Both of my children just love the CD and my daughter has taken over my CD and listens to it every chance she gets. I would just love to see Mr Crawford in the film version. I really believe that Mr Crawford is the actor that brings the Phantom to life. I did see the play when it was here in Los Angeles in 2003 and even though the gentlemen who played Phantom did a good job, it wasn't Mr Crawford. I hope that Mr Webber askes Mr Crawford to play the Phantom for the film and I hope that Mr Crawford accepts the role.

Comments: I have looked at the first few photo releases of the new Phantom of the Opera movie sent me by the ALW site, and continue to be VERY disgusted and disappointed with RUG/ALW in their choice to not cast the one and only original Phantom (Michael Crawford.) At least consider the release of the video format of the original production to give us a choice. Ironically, you still have profited from choosing to use Michael's voice over and over on San Francisco Music Box items,(now out of business), Frankin Mint items, Enesco items, Carlton Phantom ornaments, etc. I have stopped buying and collecting RUG merchandise, will never buy the music or see the movie or video of this new Phantom movie, or any other ALW production (and I have seen them all till now.) I had once planned to see Woman in White in London next September -no more. I no longer consider myself an ALW fan and am appalled in your breaking your promise to Michael Crawford. I hope there is karmic justice and that you get yours!

Comments: I have not had the pleasure of seeing the Phantom of the Opera onstage, nor could I have with Michael Crawford in the leading role seeing as it was released a couple years before I was born. Yet, I have heard the recordings and have fallen in love with the distinctness Mr.Crawford gives the role and could not imagine anyone else doing it in a movie. I definetly look forward to seeing MICHAEL CRAWFORD in the role of Erik in the movie version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!

Comments: I wish the Really Useful Group the very best of luck with this movie, but it is a shame that unlike 'Cats,' this will not be a complete filmed stage version of the Cameron Mackintosh/Really Useful Group production. You would think that after the great success of the 'Cats' video and the Cameron Mackintosh/Really Useful Group stage production of 'The Phantom of the Opera' that all of those involved in both would have taken into MAJOR consideration what would have been a number one best seller! I can understand the reason behind a Hollywood movie musical, but it is better to have a permanent income from a smaller musical theatre audience than to have a high income from the entire population that only lasts from a few months to not even a year. I will always be an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan no matter what, but I will not see this movie in a theatre nor will it be in my DVD collection! I shall only rent it one time only for a low price and form my opinion that way. Once again, I wish the Really Useful Group the very best of luck with this movie,!

Comments: Another message here from a true Phantom fan. I never got to see Michael Crawford on the stage, to my utter devestation, as I was not even born. My parents did and I am so jealous. I listen to the original cast cd everyday, with Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, Steve Barton, etc, and I adore it. It makes me cry every time I listen to Michael Crawford at the end. Please do not deny me this opportunity of seeing Micahel Crawford re-living HIS role as the Phantom. It's the only way I will get to see him perform as the Phantom, except for the little clip I have of him during the '100 Greatest Musicals' programme over Christmas. Please, it is my dream to see him perform, as he has such a beautiful voice. He is so talented. Don't ruin my one hope of happiness!

Comments: Please put Michael Crawford in the musical version of the film! He is so brilliant and the only man for the role that he originally created. You cannot devestate so many fans around the world by leaving him out! Hear our pleas!

Comments: I think it's so ironic that a new tragedy comes about by finding someone else to play the Phantom. Even though I came as a fan later I 'm still in disbelieve the same.
