Comments: I like Michael Crawfords voice because it captures both discipline(yech!) and a prodigious magic. Grace under pressure. He gives me hope to sing myself. The man conveys hope.

Comments: Hi again! I know that I have already written an entry, but I have to write another one. Here it goes: I have just read the maybe script for the movie and it made me cry. I am still crying right now. I now know how the Phantom feels. It is not easy to be left out. Michael Crawford is the right man for the role of the Phantom. I won't go see it without him. I MIGHT rent it when it comes out, but I will only go see it about six times in the theater, buy it, and watch it for the rest of my life IF Michael Crawford is in it and that is a promise I intend to keep. WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: I have listened to Michael Crawford sing the hypnotizing, extravigant, enchanting role of the Phantom of The Opera ever since I was a little girl. I still listen to him sing every day. I someday want to light up the stage by playing the role of Christine. I would be very proud to say that I am a Phan of The Phantom of the Opera itself. But to not have Michael Crawford in the movie would be an act of stupidity. Who else could sing such a part? NO ONE!!!!!!!!!!! Michael Crawford was the original Phantom. He should do the movie. Who cares who else wants to do it? He should be the Phantom. Wait, rephrase that last sentence. He IS the Phantom! Anyone who thinks otherwise, look out. Andrew Lloyd Webber, I am a fan of your work, but if you do not put Michael Crawford in AS THE PHANTOM, say bye-bye to one of your fans (that fan you are saying bye-bye to is me, if you can't figure it out).-Carlye (PS-I think that Christine made a big mistake when she loved Raoul instead of the Phantom. Who could pass him by with a voice like that?!"

Comments: They rolled out Elaine Paige for the Cats video.

They should have Mr. Crawford reprise his role.

FYI There are videos of him performing "music of the night" and "phantom of the opera" from the Tony's and also I've seen Brightman singing "Phantom of the opera" in a music video on the Arts channel. In the video she is wandering thorugh a gothic graveyard....etc.

I know there are performance videos out there.

Comments: I have been blessed by seeing Phantom of the Opera. And Dance of the Vampires. And Michael Crawford is the person who can make you cry, and laugh, and send chills down your spine. The man's age has nothing to do with his talent... Young actors today have no talent. And the singers today with the exception of a few have no talent. So put the real mask on the real phantom. Michael Crawford. And bring the music of the night back. And remember he controls all the chandaliers in the opera. He brought the Phantom to life, let him bring it to a close. Michael Crawford is the man behind the mask.

Comments: My friends and I have known about this whole ordeal for quite some time now, and the fact that all of you have done all this work to bring Crawford back and Webber still won't listen, it just sickens me. He won't even give Crawford a chance, and he's darn well earned it! I don't think he realizes how much money he's losing out on by not even giving him a chance. But don't give up, he's got some food for thought.......

Comments: If anyone should play the Phantom it should be Michael Crawford. I have seen this more than I can count and saw it several time with Michael Crawford as the Phantom. No other person can compare to him. His voice is superb, his actions unquestionable, his spirit breathtaking. To think of another to play this part would be like comparing oil and water, there just is none.

Comments: I just thought I'd write in and say how absolutely appalling it is that Michael has not been cast in a role that is undeniably his. I was watching him in some mothers do 'ave 'em yesterday - mmm frank spencer - and i couldn't help but think what a shame it was that he won't be able to thrill cinema goers the way he has thrilled television and theatre audiences. Also as a major Rocky Horror fan I would like to point out that that film hasn't been a worldwide success for thirty years because they cast celebrities in it. No that film is successful because they cast Tim Curry - the original theatre Frank and the person who defined the role - as the lead. If the pathetic individuals in charge of casting for this film had done the same and cast the lovely Michael then it might have enjoyed similar success. As it is I can't see any real fans enjoying it without the one true Phantom. Hmph!

Comments: It's a travesty that WB, Schumacher, and ALW decided to overlook Michael Crawford's obvious popularity (just look at this site and the number of copies the Original London Cast has sold) and potential marketability for being the original actor who made the stage production famous...All for the lousy excuse of "he's too old." Well, WB, ALW, Schumacher...I hope you're happy. I've been a POTO fan since 1995 and I have NO intention of seeing this movie, and not just because of Michael Crawford. It's also because of the evidence (that is still on this site) of your arrogance, conceit, and total disregard for the show's original integrity and its fans. Thanks, but I won't waste my money or my time on your film.

At least there is one small victory in this...The "phantom" will not be back... ;-)

Comments: okay, I have to disagree with you guys. I think it is a disgrace to make a movie out of something so beautiful. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote that play for theater, not for some person to fake out in front of a camera. I love Michael Crawford, he is the best phantom yet, but his voice belongs in the poto's history book when he did it theaterically. The phantom of the opera wont be magical anymore if you ruin it by making a movie. DONT DO IT! You are doing something very disrespecful to me and to all the adoring fans that believe that the poto stays on stage.

Comments: This is a great website. I agree with you guys whole heartedly. There will be no Phantom movie without the Phantom (Michael Crawford)! ALW is nuts to even think of giving anyone else the roll. No one else can sing the role like MC. He is the Phantom we have come to know and love. The whole show became famous because of him, and the movie won't be any good without him. Future generations deserve to see his wonderful performance of POTO! ALW, if you are reading this I want you to know I won't watch the movie if it is not staring Michael Crawford as the Phantom! Give us back our Angel of Music! "He alone can make your song take flight! So let him sing the music of the night!"

Comments: I believe it would be most excellent for the original Phantom to be in the movie version. But you must consider, he made the production in 1987 so age might have some effect on his voice. But it would be really nice to see him back as THE ONE AND TRUE PHANTOM. And no one can do any better.

Comments: Michael Crawford lit up Broadway by donning the mask and cape as the Phantom of the Opera for over 1,300 performances?it is only natural that he play the role that he made famous! Andrew Lloyd Webber neither envisioned nor considered anyone else in the role for the stage, and the same should and must be done for the movie!

There is no other Phantom who captures his spirit and his pain better than Mr. Crawford himself. I will always hear his haunting voice when I think of the Phantom of the Opera. Well, when I was 6 I went to go see tpoto and I just now rediscovered it this summer. I had the highlights with MC and I recently got all of the songs with MC in it. I think he is the best!!! I always wonder how he could have been soooo good at being the phantom!!! I can't imagine any other phantom other than Michael. And what not- my dad's name is Michael, LOL!!

Comments: It's been a while, ne? It sure has been.

When Joel Schumacher told the Michael Crawford fans ought to stay home, I not only lost all hope on the movie right then and there, I lost my enthusiasm for the film, and my interests in all things Phantom and Michael went rapidly downhill. The latter was in fact already started slipping away when Andrew Lloyd Webber announced that he won't cast Michael because he is too old. ::rolls eyes in disgust:: If there's one thing I've heard enough of, it's that lousy excuse about Michael's age. Isn't the Phantom character an old man to begin with? Haven't the fans already emphasized that? Is it that hard to understand?

Don't get me wrong, I still love Phantom and Michael. My interests in them made a comeback late last year but despite that, the interest is somewhat dampened because of the current movie situation. I was hoping that regardless of the movie's outcome, my Phantom interests would remain stable. However, those interests are so heavily tied to the movie ordeal, it seemed that if anything bad happened to the movie, it would have a ripple effect on my Phantom interests as well. I'm saddened that had to happen but it did.

You're probably wondering why I fought for a cause that ended up being lost. It's because I love Phantom and Michael too much. I love them too much in that I would like to see the show make a faithful and successful transition from stage to screen and not end up as an inferior of the original. Even thought we lost in the end, it was a cause worth fighting for. The fans cared so much about the musical and that is conveyed by the campaign. By not initiating the campaign would mean the fans have accepted how the musical would turn up on screen. With the campaign, it shows the fans would love to see the show adapted to screen but want it to retain the integrity of the musical and one certain performance created by one certain actor....

Is that a problem, fighting for something you love and care about dearly? Fighting to the very bitter end? If that's a problem, then I'm sorry I had those feelings. Actually, I'm not sorry I had those feelings. If I didn't have those feelings, I would have accepted a mediocre version of the show and get it over with. But I won't except mediocrity and neither will the fans.

I would like to thank all the phans and everyone who participated in the TMCPMC. We all took a stand on what we believed in and fought to the very end and did all we could. The original peformance of Michael Crawford's Phantom may be lost on screen but it lives on forever.

Comments: I've listened to the music for years and want so much to see the play, but I only want to see it with Michael Crawford as the Phantom. His voice is so perfect for the role, as he can bring you to tears, make you roll with laughter or send a terrifying chill down your spine. He IS the Phantom. The role belongs to him alone.

Comments: I was outraged to hear that Michael Crawford would not be playing the phantom in the movie, are these people insane or just plain stupid! As far as I'm concerned Michael Crawford is The Phantom and no other actor could possibly play the part. His voice is truly angelic and his presence is commanding, what more could they want. I suggest that they rethink their casting for this role.

Comments: My God, I am quite upset by most of what I have been hearing about this movie, being a huge, longtime "phan". They have basically gone "Hollywood" again, without much consideration or sensitivity to those who know and love the source material. If they're concerned about money, they should have just filmed the play. Maybe they will, to make those who actually care happy. Anyway, for now, I am not impressed. Shame!

Comments: Michael Crawford IS the Phantom. The Phantom IS Michael Crawford. Why, then, would Michael not be the first choice for the movie. He is renowned, passionate, sexy, and-oh yes-TALENTED. That's more than you'll get from most Hollywood actors.

Comments: Hey guys! I just decided to surf on in again and see what was going on with the Michael Crawford campaign. Michael IS the Phantom. His voice cannot be replaced, and there's no reason for a Phantom of the Opera movie without him! Why have a movie about the Phantom, without THE Phantom?!

Comments: Joel Schumacher, "Gerard Butler..[is] going to be a great Phantom, a young sexy Phantom. And I know the Michael Crawford fans are going to be hysterical but maybe they should just stay home." -- in Recent News, from www.moviehole.net

must....control....rage....

NOTE FROM TMCPMC:

Oh rage away. Phantom fans SHOULD be outraged that Joel Schumacher has so little understanding of what made POTO a great show. He is right about one thing though: fans of Michael Crawford's phantom SHOULD stay home. No sense in wasting your money.
