Comments: i just wanted to say i love michael crawford and no matter what he IS the phantom. his voice just is as close as we phans can hope to get to Erik. I also wanted to say I've seen the newly released movie promo pic from WB and I was unnerved to see that the Phantom's lips were perfectly normal. Umm...maybe it's just in that pic...i sure hope so!

Comments: 'Now let it be war upon them both.' Hollywood's producers and Lord Webber that is. Why re-write live theatre's most moving musical from stage to screen without the presence that made it what it is and ever will be? Simply an act of failed foresight. There is no way polling of any kind would have made those in charge decide to eliminate Michael as there primary and sole candidate for the position. Who and why they chose to do so is a wonder and unfortunate. Most likely Lord Webber will not enjoy in the success of recent Hollywood musicals such as 'Chicago' and 'Moulin Rouge', because they survived on the character body of an ensemble and multiple leads who stood in no one's shadows of success. However, it can arguably be said, the success of "Phantom' is largely on the part of Michael's haunting, dynamic and enchanting voice, look and passion. Stop the production and give back the world their phantom.

Comments: I am so jealous when I read some of these messages that say "I saw Michael live in 'Phantom'" or "I saw Michael live in 'Barnum'". Oh, how I wish I could have but at least I did see him live in concert in Chicago a few years back. This man is so talented, we want to see him!!! After seeing the special where he sang a little of "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" with Julie Andrews, I'm thinking what a terrific Henry Higgins he'd make! Anyone else think so? Come on you casting directors, make a pitch!!!!!

Comments: In my entire life, no other voice has touched my heart the way Michael Crawford's has. He IS the Angel of Music, THE Phantom. No one else will ever be able to pull off this role as well as Michael can. Those idiots in Hollywood must be blind not to see that.

Comments: AHHHHHH! OH, why can't Michael Crawford be the Phantom. I'm a new Phan; before, my loyalties lay within the Les Miserables and Harry Potter fandoms, but I found my mother's tape of the OLC of Phantom a few months ago. I was ENTHRALLED with MC's voice, and I love him! So, this Christmas, I used my Amazon.com gift certificate (thanks, Aunt Rebecca!) on the OLC complete cast recording (mom was missing the second tape ((GAH!)), the novel, the sheet music and a few other things *coughMICHAELBALLCD!cough*, so when I heard rumors on the internet of someone other than my love playing Erik, I was distraught. I mean, didn't Sir Andy learn his lesson when he tried to cast Faye Dunaway as Norma Desmond? CAN YOU SAY FLOP, ANDY?!?!?!?! *mutters "Oh yeah, blame it on Trevor Nunn* AHEM! ANYWAY...(regains composure), kudos to the sight, and I'm only 14, but can I join the campaign? Damn their warnings, damn their lies, they will see the people rise! Oh wait... right country, wrong musical... ;) Cheers! ~~Justice

Listen to us, don't you see how numerous we are to beg you for that ? Doesn't that mean -He- is the best, and the only one we want ?...Please Think Wisely.

Comments: I LOVE Phantom of the Opera, and to be honest, I'm a bit sceptical about the spectacular stage production being turned into a movie. However, if it must be done, there's only one man out there that is the true Angel of Music. That man is of course, Michael Crawford. He's the only man that can portray Erik as the hypnotic and mysterious man he is. I totally vote for Michael Crawford as the Phantom!

Comments: Good site - Michael has been a favourite of mine for the wide range of roles he has played. Right from the simpering Frank Spencer, through his roles in Hello Dolly and Barnum. Each character has been well portrayed.

Michael IS the Phantom - the definitive Phantom against whom all others are compared.

Comments: It is the worst Christmas present I have ever had, to be surfing the net and find the first picture of Gerard Butler in the title role. I now know that we have "passed the point of no return..." I wish Gerard and everyone involved in the movie every success. I would like to note though that I will not be supporting the film, I shall not be going to see it. Michael is, was and forever shall be "The Phantom of the Opera". I am sorry that Lord Lloyd-Webber could not see that (in the tradition of great musicals such as "Sound of Music", "Rocky Horror" "The King and I") many lead and key actors/actresses immortalised their original stage performances on the silver screen (and that it was this! that gave these films their massive successes and cult status). Perhaps this is not what Lord Lloyd-Webber wishes for his musical!!! And I agree, it is his... I also would like wish Michael and all his "Phan's" a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Comments: No one else should be given this role. I've been a fan since Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em days. Saw Michael live on the West End doing PT Barnum and of course also Phantom. Are they worried he can't carry the production? Maybe Andrew Lloyd Webber should strat countinting his pennies and see how much of it came from Michael's hard work. This is typical Holywood. If they make the movie without Michael Crawford, it will be boycotted by my whole family. Michael has more than paid his dues - give him the role!

Comments: Hello: This is all about money isn't it? What secret deals is ALW making with hollywood money-makers. Why can't or why will the producers have Michael? Is it the same stupidity that left out Julie Andrews from "Camelot" & "My Fair Lady?" Angela Lansbury from "Mame?" Yet, we do have stars who did create the roles on Broadway & brought those creations to the screen: Yul Brynner, Rex Harrison & Joel Grey. The Phantom belongs to Michael Crawford--- no other should possess it. Please let's squeeze out this push for hollywood decisions.

Comments: If it's money they're worried about, then they're completely upside down. Quite obviously, though MC is expensive, not a single fan will go see this movie without him. I myself will protest to viewing it if the film comes out in 2004 with some half-job who never sung in his life and who is, well... NOT Michael Crawford! This is outrage!

Comments: Please, please let's keep trying to let this happen. I read that the powers that be want sensuality-- sexiness in this movie. My God, how much more sensual can one get than Michael Crawford's Phantom? Crawford is not too old. Is he not a father figure besides a secret lover of Christine? We can't let this happen. Also, I read the Webber OK'd using young singing stars. Please let's fight this.

Comments: At first I thought there was promise when Antonio Banderas was being considered for the role. But Gerard Butler...PALEASE!!!! The movie version should not be based on the old Claude Raines version (all talk) but on the stage play, mostly singing and no other person besides Banderas could pull it off other than Michael Crawford. Are the movie producers stupid? He is the Phantom! Age or no age, he will make them millions and personifies sex appeal, even at 61. Get real Hollywood, it's not always about sex!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: As one who was first introduced to Phantom of the Opera by the soundtrack featuring both Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman I was able to take in a broadway production of Phantom, and while our Phantom was excellent I too feel that any movie brought to the big screen solely on the premise of the broadway production could only successfully be done with Michael and Sarah as the Phantom and Christine.
