| Comments: | Hi
my name is Erin and i have been a phantom fan since before I can remeber and
I think that the original cast should be a part of this and I think that the
only one that should play the Phantom is Crawford him and only him has the
right to do so....

| Comments: | I saw Michael
Crawford as the phantom in Los Angeles when it first came to the stage in
California. Michael Crawford created a phenomenon with his fabulous singing
voice and talented acting ability. Even though there has been many a
phantoms before him he established this role for us in our present day. When
a certain number of years passed the word went out that Michael Crawford was
requesting retirement. The news of his retirement from the phantom sent out
shock waves but it was expressed by Michael Crawford that he was in need of
a rest. If I am not mistaken he was told that if he didn't take this rest
that he may hurt his voice indefinately. He was eventually replaced by a
TV/theater actor whose name escapes me at the present time but I do know
that the show suffered to eventually close a relatively short time later.
What I am trying to say is that in our modern age Michael Crawford has
created the role of phantom and anyone other than him trying to make the
role fly is a mistake. I was just made aware that Antonio Banderas is being
considered for the role. Even though Antonio is a fine actor, he is not
Michael Crawford and just as with the stage production so I predict will be
with the movie. The public has excepted Michael Crawford, the opnion has
already been formed and anything else is just a reduced imitation. -Melanie
Thompson

| Comments: | I so hope that
Michael Crawford will be the Phantom in the movie version. It can hardly
matter what his age is, he will be wearing a mask. The voice is all that
matters.Consider too, he definately knows the part. Thankyou, Judith A

| Comments: | Hmmmmmm, too late
methinks (since it's been cast, great site, fab sentiment, some geat
humourous touches (That Di woman is a gem in a million!), but Mr C is no
longer able to hold the role I fear.
I have a pumpkin and I'm not afraid to use it ;o)

| Comments: | Without Michael
Crawford, the role of the Phantom is now officially tainted...
I am deeply saddened by this and I will refuse to see the main character destroyed in this movie. No ticket for me.

| Comments: | Let me tell u
something, Andrew Loyd Webber: YOU CANNNOT HAVE A HANDSOME PHANTOM!!! I am
not saying M.Crawford is ugly, but he makes the Phantom...well...Phantom! He
(the phantom) cannot be played by an extreamly young actor ether because in
the book(I'll be surprised if you read the book, ALW, THE PHANTOM OF THE
OPERA)Erik says,"How sweet of you to save me from the extertion at my age!"
I don't remember what page that is on, but that is saying that he is an
older(OLDER) man. So an extreamly young actor(like 20's) won't do. Plus, MC
made the Phantom what it is! His voice can be ghostly and creepy!!! That
makes THE PHANTOM what it is! So PUH-LEASE listen to us and keep our trust!
If you do not, well...I have a dirty horse-stall (or 2) you could clean for
me or you could gut my buck deer I will shoot when deer season comes. Keep
our trust or loose alot of phans! It is your desion, make it a good one or
not. The choice is yours.

| Comments: | Michael Crawford
IS The Phantom, there is absolutely NO ONE that can compare!!All I have to
do is hear his voice, and I melt. If they put anyone else (especially
Antonio Banderas, Yuck!) in the role it would be a disgrace to the very
essence of the Phantom. I know there would be alot of people that would see
it with him in it, and they should cast for talent, not for who is hot in
Hollywood!!

| Comments: | I love Michael
Crawford with every fiber of my being. I worship him. I'm listening to his
music right now. "The Phantom" would just not be the same if someone else
was playing him. It would be wonderful to see Michael Crawford in the movie.
I hope the fantasy becomes reality.

to me, in dreams he comes. His voice which calls to me and speaks my name.
And do I dream agian, for now I find, The real Phantom of the Opera is there
inside my mind. He sings once angain with me, our strange duet. His power
over me, grows stronger yet. I never turn from him, to glace behind, because
Micheal Crawford is there inside our minds! ALW, how could you do this to
us? Replacing our Angel of Music(MC) with a nobody!I am apalled at you! I
trusted you to give us our REAL Angel of Music, and now how you've repaid
us. Denied us and betrayed us. We were bound to love him when we heard him
sing. I will not trust you agian if you replace MC with a nobody, I shall
give you one last chance! The phantom's obediant phan, Christine

| Comments: | I find the fact
that Warner Bros is considering any one but Michael apalling and
incomprehensible. Michael Crawford IS Phantom, and I wouldn't be able to
watch or enjoy the movie if he were not the man enchanting me with his
voice. Warner Bros. had better think, because I know that I will not remain
silent on this issue. In my heart there is no other Phantom and no other
voice that could even come close to filling his shoes. To pass him over
would be a great injustice. After all Ted Neeley got to play Jesus in Jesus
Christ Superstar, and think most would agree it wouldn't have been right
with out him. I Love The Phantom of the Opera, but not without Michael and
Sarah. Thanks and keep up the fight.

| Comments: | Dear sirs:
Two months ago I saw "The Phantom of the Opera" for the first time in Broadway and I enjoyed it deeply. I've got the music of the original cast (Crawford and Brightman), so I want to support Mr. Crawford for the Phantom's role in the coming movie.

| Comments: | About what the
Soloman dude was saying.(I just read his) HE IS WRONG! AS WRONG AS HE CAN
BE! Who cares if we are 'too emotionly evolved'? That shows that we CARE!!!
We care about the Phantom.I wonder, if the real (I mean real, flesh and
blood, the human) Erik would say if he read some of these messages? Would he
be pleased? Some may laugh and say 'There was no real Erik!' There really
was! His skeleton is in the archaves of the National Acadamy of Musci in
Paris, which they found with a gold ring on it's finger(placed there by
Christine). They didn't reconize it as the Opera Ghost by the ugliness of
the head. But of course his skull was ugly! He was deformed! But look, no
matter what, the Phantom will always have loving and loyal fans(including
myself). SO IT IS TO BE WAR BETWEEN US, ALW? THIS TIME, THE DISASTER WILL BE
YOURS! The Phantoms obediant friend, Fauntine

| Comments: | I am utterly
DISCUSTED AT ALW AND WBROS.! How could they betray the man who inspired our
voice? I know that hollywood actors get paid to do movies, but what about
our BEST INTREST? HUH? Answer that, ALW! I don't mean to be rude or mean,
but I am telling the truth! How can ALW betray us? His loyal fans? Ok, I
admit, I am 13, but I still am a loyal fan. But does anyone listen to what I
have to say? NO! So please ALW, PLEASE listen to our crys in the dark that
nobody hears! If you don't, well, sorry for the loss of fans! But it is your
fault if you lose fans and their trust by putting so-and-so in our Angel of
Music's place! That is where it is at right now. Win our trust by putting MC
as the Phantom(which he should be) or lose it. Make it a good dision or not,
the choice is yours. Oh, and one more thing before I submit this, I hope you
know that it is really and truly over now, the music of the night!

| Comments: | Look, about the
Phantom movie. If you want to keep your fans' trust, first thing is first:
DO NOT TAKE AWAY MICHAEL CRAWFORD!!!!!!!! If you do, you will probably be
making the worst mistake you will make or have ever made! So please heed our
pleas!No-one can replace our Angel of Music(MC), I repeat NO-ONE!! I am the
only one out of my friends(and maybe school) who loves the Phantom of the
Opera. Right now, I just got one of my friends to like the Phantom alot and
I do not want to loose her newly musical mind of the Phantom. If you put
some hollywood actor in our Angel's place, you will loose alot of fans. I am
telling the truth, no more no less. Well, that is where it is at. MC, alone,
made my song take flight. It's(really) over now, the music of the night!

| Comments: | I'd like to meet
the person who would even consider the fact of Crawford and Brightman NOT
doing the film! It makes me sick to my stomach that one would even
hypothesize such an idiotic move of having someone other than THE MAN
himself (Crawford for you confused souls), play the part he very well
deserves. I would take a guess that whoever makes the decision would never
see what I have to write nonetheless, someone should fire his/her ass from
ever making a decision such as this again!!!! One would think it to be a no
brainer....however, some of us know better to assume that unless we take
action, things will 'work out for the best'. I don't think so. Otherwise, I
would not be here RIGHT NOW! DO THE RIGHT THING...pull your head out of

| Comments: | If I may, I'd
like to address some of the points made by Mr. Solomon, below.I do so more
for the benefit of ALW & JS than Mr. Solomon, himself.
" Is there really a use for this forum any more...? " Yes, there is. To prove that the ALW & JS were told by the fans, even before they began production on the film, what & who we wanted, and how to avoid " a complete mess ", or how to, at least do their bst at avoiding a mess. "..why does he (Michael Crawford ) have to be in the film version? " He doesn't, but he's the star phans want, and we don't have to accept anyone else. Also, The phans, and more importantly, Mr. Crawford, were promised that he'd be cast as the Phantom. This compaign, as I see it, is (at least partially ) about honoring promises. " The Harry Potter dissenters who voted with their money and stayed away really made a dent in the takings there didn't they?!" As has been stated in a previous entry in this guestbook, the majority of the 'Harry Potter' fans got the film they wanted. If there were any dissenters, they were few. A similar thing happened with the 1981 film ' The Legend of the Lone Ranger '. Clayton Moore and his fans had hoped that he would be allowed to star in this film, but the producers said Mr. Moore was too old. Fans threatened to boycott. A threat they carried out when the film was released. It bombed, as no one who wasn't a ' Lone Ranger ' and/or a Clayton Moore fan was interested in seeing a " young unknown "( Klinton Spilsbury ) in the role. Respectfully, Eric French

| Comments: | Hmm... Is there
really a use for this forum any more, now that the film is in production? I
do agree that Michael Crawford was great in the role and that there is a
distinct possibility that the film could be a complete mess, but ultimately
it is Schumacher's film not yours! As Tim Burton said about directing Batman
and having criticism levelled at him from devoted fans; "many fans will not
like what I am doing with the film but this is my film and my
interpretation". That is the problem here; people who have too much
emotional involvement in the musical projecting it onto something else. Yes,
Michael Crawford was great in the 'stage' version, but why does he have to
be in the 'film' version? If Lloyd Webber; the man who 'wrote' the musical
doesn't want him in the film version then I'm sure that he has his reasons.
Its almost bordering on insulting that a group of people are telling him how
he should be revising his idea. Anyway, the whole thing is pretty academic
now as the ball is rolling and nothing much will be done to change it. In a
Hollywood obssessed with spoon feeding the audience exactly what it wants I
think that its great that Schumacher told the dissenters to stay at home.
And a final note for those who are going to sway the box office receipts by
actually staying away... The Harry Potter dissenters who voted with their
money and stayed away really made a dent in the takings there didn't they?!

I missed seeing him by only months. However, I have had the pleasure of
seeing his show as well as Presenting Andrew Lloyd Webber with Michael
Crawford. There is no one else who should play this part. What is the
problem? He will have on so much makeup who will know he has aged?

| Comments: | I don't see why
there's such a fuss about Michael Crawford being too old for the role of the
phantom. In the novel by Gaston Leroux the phantom refered to himself as
being incredibly old. Also, what does it matter if the phantom has to be
sexy?! The whole point of the phantom was that he looked like death
(literally!) and had the voice of an angel. However, i believe that Michael
Crawford should get the title role as he has always been associated with the
character.

Michael Crawford in person, but he has the most awesome voice. I heard the
soundtrack to Phantom when I was six and it just blew me away, he was so
incredible. To me, though I have seen other in the role of Phantom, he is
the Phantom personified up there onstage, and no one else can beat that.
Especially not Antonio Banderas!!

| Comments: | I'd just like to
say that while living in Los Angeles some years ago I had the opportunity to
see the Phantom of the Opera many times. I saw it performed by at least two
other actors who in all honesty did a wonderful job. However, when I think
of the Phantom it will always be Michael Crawford whom I will remember most
fondly. To let anyone else perform the role in the movie before he has had
the chance is unthinkable. Hollywood should have learned its lesson by now,
no matter how hard you try to remake the original it never quite works.

| Comments: | Sadly, I was
quite young when Michael began the legend, and I haven't seen the stage
performance - yet. But I am a poignant phan, and though I can't say I've
been one for a long time, I CANNOT see anyone else but Michael Crawford as
THE Phantom of the Opera!!! You take away Mr. Crawford, you take away the
soul of the Phantom-- the VOICE of the Phantom! No one can sing the Phantom
as well as MC or act as well. I've also heard something about wanting the
Phantom to be young for the movie.(!) Why? The Phantom isn't supposed to be
young! This isn't a teenage sexual dramatic musical! (did that make sense?
Well, You get the picture) Please, ALW & WB, don't do anything stupid... or
something you'll regret later. P.S. Excellent website! ;)

| Comments: | I definitely
think Micheal Crawford is the man. His "Music of the Night" especially is
unparalleled by any other singers. I really hope I can watch him in the
movie.

| Comments: | Michael Crawford
was great in the original (I wasn't born yet, so I didn't really see him in
it....butI've seen him preform on KCET, and have the original cast recording
of the soundtrack!) It'd be a real bummer if he couldn't be in it!

| Comments: | I can't believe
the man is gerard butler... yes, he is charming, but not a bit of the
charisma of the MAN - Michael Crawford. There is no one but Michael Crawford
who can and actually gives life to OG.

Yahoo! weblink about the film. I must say that Michael Crawford should be
cast as the Phantom without a doubt.

| Comments: | I found an
article on Yahoo about the making of the film ... Over the past years, I
have played "Phantom" so many times that the recording, the tape and now the
CD are worn. The music is merely spectacular. But it is Michael Crawford who
brings the Phantom to life. I've seen the show twice now, with other
performers, but the thrill and excitement generated by Mr. Crawford was not
there.
How could Hollywood, Warner Bros. and any other company involved in this production EVEN THINK of anyone else but Michael Crawford?! I don't think I would be able to see the film without him ... or without Sarah Brightman playing opposite him.

the Phamtom along with Sarah. Both of those voices are so strong and no one
else could come close.

| Comments: | You have to have
Michael Crawford. No other phantom will do. Michael Crawford was born to
play this role. This is a very important movie to Phantom phans and there is
no other phantom then Michael Crawford. I will not see the movie if it is
not Michael Crawford. I can't imagine why anyone would even think of using
anyone BUT Michael. Did I mention that Michael Crawford is the best???

| Comments: | I know what you
must all be thinking right now. I am just another fan. True, absolutely!
However, not only am I a huge fan (one of many in my high school) but I am
also a fourteen year old freshman singer with the French name Christine. Mr.
Andrew Webber, I would like to say that if you are shooting to attract a
younger generation of teens, Michael is the only way to go. You must have
realized at one point or another that by casting Mr. Crawford, you would be
making him the standard for any Phantom. You cast him in the role once and I
think you should do so again. Myself and a friend of mine are thinkging of
starting a club for all the Phantom "Phans" in my High School. You wouldn't
believe how much support we recieved (and, as you all may have already
experienced, Freshman don't commonly get support in anything). So, I don't
know how much this will help but if any of you the might have come across
this, I would love to help in the casting of the role in any way I can. I
just need to know how. And if any of you would like to help me with this
club by sending me information, I think I put my e-mail down. So, in
conclusion Mr. Webber, Michael Crawford has inspired my generation with the
love, the longing, and the music of the one and only Phantom by casting Mr.
Crawford. And, as far as I'm concerned, my generation, the next, and every
one thereafter shall know the Phantom's voice!
