Comments: I have the Cd and Lp of phantom with the original cast but i was too young to go and see it. when i heard the film was being made i was ecstatic! The first time i heard music of the night I was mesmerized. i cannot describe the feeling it gives me, it makes me cry every time. call me crazy but it does. Michael may be older now but he still has that beautiful, powerful voice - he is the phantom.

p.s. how can Lloyd Webber say he wants someone younger? the phantom was supposed to be OLD!

Comments: I love The Phantom of The Opera. I love all of the songs from it. Because of listening to them constantly, I have improved my singing range and can reach some of the highest notes sung in the opera itself!! Besides that, Michael Crawford has an inspiring voice. The character that he portrays has such a deep and powerful meaning. The only true Phantom can be Crawford himself.

Comments: I first saw the Phantom in Nashville about ten years ago and fell in love with it immediately. I have had a Phantom cd in my vehicle at all times ever since. I travel daily and listen to it all the time. I frequently sing along while driving. I am always moved by the music and especially by the performance of Michael Crawford. I had the pleasure of seeing Phantom again two weeks ago in New York and was blown away. But there is no doubt in my mind who the true Phantom is. It is and will always be MICHAEL CRAWFORD. Anyone else would be "an insult".

Comments: The recent devolopements that have unfolded over the last monthes have been quite contrary to what I have expected. No Antonio! Yay! But what's this? A small time scottish actor with no musical experience? These people should know better! Well, at least he doesn't have a thick accent... Still, the comments they have been making have caused me to think perhaps we *should* stay home. I, for one, plan to boycott, at least untill I see what revisions they have made, and what this new "phantom" sounds like, in the role.

Comments: Michael Crawford, is, was and will always be "The Phantom". To choose any other actor would be a disgrace to the art. Hollywood executives are probably scared by the fact that he has too much talent. They're not used to dealing with that. He has more than earned this role! Good luck to him!

Comments: The role of the phantom belongs to micheal crawford, as he made the role for himself when the show first opened. To settle for anyone else in the role would be a great disaster.

Comments: Michael Crawford is the Phantom, He is the most perfect person to play this role. It was he who made it famous. His voice is terrific and who better to play the role, than the orginial who was the star of the Broadway Play. He has power in his voice and knows the role like the back of his hand. I would be very disapointed if he did not get the role of his best performance ever. Please reconcider him for this role of a life time. Thanks

No, really, who is it?

Michael Crawford should definately play the role, he's not 'too old', he's still good looking, he knows it all... fools.

Comments: Webber comes to the premiere and sees no one (except perhaps Erik himself, with his lasso ready *evil grin*)... if I were geographically closer to ALW I'd be marching in the street with "give us our Phantom" etc. slogans, and I think I would not be alone there.

It's phans who earned POTO the place in Guinness, and it's phans who really must matter, not $$. And Phans want Michael!! Well if they find the Phantom himself and get him in the role I wouldn't object much though...but Mike is the closest! Yes, and Christine matters...Sarah is getting a bit too old for the part, but are there any other talented young singers out of teens?!

God can't forgive it. I'm not sure he's a Phan but he can't. Let's hope he's still there, and good.

Hope lives on. We will be there to the end.

"Young and attractive" people in the roles?!?! Who cares!!??!! The Phantom wasn't young or at all attractive!! And i love him that way. Must this Beautiful piece of work be desecrated by shallow human kind!!! "THIS WHOLE AFFAIR IS AN OUTRAGE!!"

Comments: Upon hearing of a planned ' The Dukes of Hazzard ' movie, Ben Jones ( ' Cooter ' in the TV series ) pointed out that, when TPTB replaced original stars Tom Wopat and John Schneider with unknowns who were not accepted by the show's fans the ratings fizzled. After bringing Wopat & Scheider back, the ratings once again soared.

If the planned ' Phantom ' movie fizzles, ALW could always remake it with fan favorites Michael Crawford & Sarah Brightman ( if the RUG gave him another $50 million, which is doubtful, it seems to me ), but why bother, when he already knows how to make the movie a hit ?

Jones also said, " When people think of ' The Dukes of Hazzard ', they think of us. "

When people think of the ' Phantom ' & Christine, who do they think of ?

I think the answer to that question is perfectly clear.

Comments: I just saw Phantom last night for the first time. I can't imagine that you would even think of altering such a beautiful story and score. As for refusing Michael Crawford the role of the Phantom, how dare you???????? You need to think back and realize who made this play the hit that it is. Gratitude sure does escape the greedy.

Comments: I was devastated and distraught about the casting for Phantom. It is a sin to put anyone but Michael Crawford in the starring role. ALW needs his head examined. Just because they want to play to a "hip" audience is no reason to do this. This is a timeless story, the music and characters enter your heart and very soul. To cast some young non-vocalist because he was in an action film is ludicruous. What are these people thinking? There are untold millions of fans, young and old that adore and cherish this show, most of the people I know all have the original recording WITH Michael Crawford. They can't imagine anyone else either. This is an outrage!!!!!!!! I would love to know Michael Crawford's reaction to this. He has counted and planned on doing this film for years. So much for the public say in anything, money talks, supposedly good looks alone are what matters. Even ALW is missing the point. He is turning out to be a sellout to his millions of fans and to the almighty dollar. I could go on and on but what's the point. I guess good common sense doesn't have any impact anymore.

Comments: I think that what is about to happen to the "Phantom of the Opera" is a terrible shame. The casting of Gerard Butler, who has only had previous singing experience with an old rock band, as the Phantom is one of the worst choices that could have possibly been made. I would not object so much if the Phantom was not written to have the most superb "absolutely and heroically sweet, gloriously insidious, delicate, powerful, and in short, irresistably triumphant" voice ever. The one quality absolutely necessary to play the Phantom is a dynamic voice; not a big Hollywood name, not a young age, and definitely NOT good looks. Yet, it seems to me that those were the qualifications that Joel Shumacher was looking for in his "vision" of the "Phantom of the Opera." I'd like to ask him how one with hardly any singing experience can even hope to claim to be the very "Angel of Music." There is only one man who can do such a thing, one man who the phans (THE TICKET BUYERS) will see, and that is Michael Crawford. He's got the talent, the experience, and the die-hard fans who will go to see the movie ten times and make WB its precious money. ALW, if you see this, save your masterpiece now while you still have the chance. If not, I'm afraid that you'll not only be hurting us, your loyal fans, but yourself and your musical.

Comments: My parents saw the first Phantom, Michael Crawford, and I have always wanted to see him perform it. I saw Ted Keegan, he is great, but he is not Michael, three times. I just love your site! I have been coming to it since I first saw Phantom in 2001. As I was saying, it would be a great dishonor to do this to all of the true Phantom phans out there. Depriving us of the one man who made this role come to life. Depriving us of our rights to see Michael have the role once again. Andrew, if you ever read this, what was going through your mind when you gave the part to someone else? Why did you do this? Have you and Michael had a grudge about something in the past? Is this why you did this? If so then why do you have to put your personal troubles into the casting of the movie. I mean, my God, he made you millions, I'm not surprised if he made you billions of dollars or pounds, lets just say currency. Think of how much money you would make! Oh well, I guess there is no way of changing your idiotic decision. But heed my words, I have changed my whole perspective about you. I use to like you and your works, but now I do not know what to think of you. I hope that one day you will trod upon this site one day and see how many lifes this God sent man has touched. And how many people wanted him to play the part. Once again I would like to say that this site has made me become a truely better phan and I hope that everyone that sees the play or reads the book will come to this site to see how much more there is to it than what meets the eye. Hugs, A phantom and Michael fan, Mary

Comments: I am 16 years old and am already a huge Michael Crawford fan. Last year when visiting England I went and saw Phantom in London and I absolutely loved it. My one disappointment was that it wasn't Michael Crawford playing phantom. I listened to the recording of Phantom with him in it and I couldn't put it away. It held me spell bound. I have always wanted to see a movie of phantom but without Michael as Phantm I'd prefer not to. He is obviously best for the role and could give it so much more than anyone else. I wish it was him.

Comments: I just read that Paramount Pictures is disappointed in the performance of the movie ' Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life '( Which, coincidentally, features Gerard Butler ). Paramount thinks that the movie's core audience ( ' Tomb Raider ' game fans )must think that, since they don't like the new game, the movie will disappoint them, too.

Who would be the ' Phantom ' movie's core audience ? Fans of the show, the Original London Cast Recording and, if Michael Crawford were cast as the ' Phantom ', his fans, who are already disappointed in the news that Mr. Crawford has been denied the role and the planned alterations in the much-loved story and score.

Something to thing about, I feel.

Comments: I've seen the ALW musical once, when I was nine years old, and fell in love with it immediately. I haven't read the Gaston Leroux novel yet, but I plan to very soon. I want to see Michael Crawford play the phantom, because his vocal talents are unmatched as Erik. His singing on "Music of the Night" is beautiful beyond compare. I think that Michael Crawford should play Erik because, well, he IS Erik. No one else can bring his presence to the role, and no one else will.

Comments: hello everyone,

well, i'm absolutly heart broken. all these years of a clean, passionate fight for a loving cause has been lost. knowing that Mr. Crawford will not be imortalized is dispairing. i mean "Music of the Night" without Michael is like "Over the Rainbow" without Judy. it has no magic...that special magic. Michael Crawford has been robbed and so we have been robbed. i want to see the film but i'm scared of coming out crying. so Mr. Webber had better deliver something good. i'll try to be open minded and enjoy regardless, however, my expectations are very very high. good luck

Comments: A director with a bad reputation and a bad sense of judgement.

A group of young actors and actresses put under the pressure of trying to re-create a theatre masterpiece on film.

A composer who just decides to hand over what was once a "project of love" to the director mantioned before.

An actor who was and still is praised for creating one of the most classic roles in Broadway history, and he is d
