Comments: Surely you MUST be kiddding. If this is how you plan to film "Phantom of the Opera" then don't insult all of those who love it in its original text. At the very least, CHANGE THE NAME of the show. Imagine the disappointment of people who go and are expected the film version of the musical. Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: Hell yes Michael Crawford should be the Phantom Of The Opera. He won a freaking Tony for his wonderful performances and portrayal of the Phantom. Why have another actor fail at trying to fill his shoes, when no one can even come close. I mean he is the ORIGINAL Phantom of the Opera. Plus they can't even get a voice half as great as his. Anyway the Phantom is not suppose to LOOK seductive he is supposed to SOUND seductive and Michael Crawford has already done that(not that he isn't good looking by the way). Plus he will honor Mr. Webber's great work why not make his work sound twice as magnificent by putting Michael Crawford in the role of phantom. Don't shame this wonderful story which is the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: Michael Crawford has so many fans who would love to see him in the movie! None of them think he is too old and many of those fans are younger than me (15)so how can anybody else think age matters!

Comments: Well, I have been thinking about this Phantom Movie, for a long time, I would like to let Mr. Schumacher know that I will stay home when that stupid movie comes out. You're not hurting us, you're hurting yourself, if you only realized how many Michael Crawford fans there are. As for Andrew Lloyd Weber, his word is not worth S--- He promised Michael the part and after all the crazy goings on he still won't let him play it. Well we will see when the movie comes out who is right, Michael's fans or those old Farts who think they are so smart. Sorry for the bad language. I am 66 and do not consider myself old; also I don't look my age so I have been told by many people who are shocked when they meet me, & no plastic surgery. Michael is not old, and he looks very good to me to still play the part. Doris Collinvitti

Comments: So Mr Schumacher says we Michael Crawford fans should just stay away from the movie. Well I can guarantee that the four members of this family will not see his movie, and I hope the same can be said for all Michael's other fans. I hope he and Lloyd-Webber have the biggest flop in movie history!

Comments: What kind of SICKO's would make a movie with 2 ADULT MEN fighting for the love and affection of a CHILD...as suitors (a 16 year old Christine is a child!!!!)...this is leaning toward being PERVERTED!! Christine was very young, but she was an adult and Raoul was the same age...the Phantom was much older. They were all Adults. If there were any men to go after a 16 year old in reality, they would lock that man away, these men aren't looking for a daughter...they are romantically fighting for Christine. Also, why is the story line being changed?? There are no horses and sword fighting in either story (the book or the musical)...and making the phantom movie more meaner, is just taking away from the true beauty of the story. It's a love story, not an action flick. I love Michael Crawford and think a big mistake (the biggest ever) is being made in not casting him as the Phantom. Michael IS Erik the Phantom. He always will be. The ironic thing is, that a few years ago I heard a rumor that Andrew Lloyd Webber wasn't going to cast Michael because he wanted a known name as the Phantom (that's why he was casting the idea around about Antonio Banderas)...and look...now he is casting people I have never heard of in these parts. It's bad enough that they are not casting Michael...but now, they are just plain out ruining the movie...and then telling us 'TRUE' Phans to stay home. Maybe we should...afterall, the movie isn't going to be the musical we love...so, why bother. ...and to think...I've waited all of these years for nothing.

Comments: Just come to know they're going to cast a certain... Gerard Who?....Gerard Butler as The Phantom. Horror! Horror! Horror! What are they doing? I was simply shocked. When people hear the name of Michael Crawford they imagine The Phantom. But who know this "young suitor"? Secondly the comments or should we call them insults, for this is what they are, of Mr.Schumacher really make me feel outraged. Infact he talks about Michael Crawford's fans as if they weren't at all interested to the good cause of the movie, not talking about the fact that the POTO success was earned by the unique performance of Michael Crawford himself!! Have you all forgotten? Maybe he didn't consider that most of Michael Crawford's fans are also POTO fans? Many, like me, became Michael's fan because of his magic performance as The Phantom. I've read Leroux's novel, bought the POTO cd and became obsessed by Michael Crawford as The Phantom. For me they are one. The true Erik IS Michael Crawford! Mr.Schumacher expressed himself very bodly, he advices Us, Michael Crawford fans/POTO fans to stay at home. Does he not fear that maybe he just conseilled to half of his public to stay at home? Surely I won't go and give my money to see a baby-POTO movie. Surely I won't see any Webber-thing anymore. If they cast Butler as The Phantom, why not taking also people from "Friends" or "Beverly Hill 90210"? Same age and maybe more famous... Sincerely I can't bare the thought of a young Phantom. Erik was supposed to be older than Christine, that's what the the true story and the musical were all about. How can you ever mantain the integrity of the original by changing completely the Story? How you dare Sir? How can you be so sure? I hope with all my heart and soul that you and Mr. Webber will change you minds. Otherwise: Is it to be war between us? You will curse the day you did not cast Michael Crawford as The Phantom!!

Comments: I love Micheal Crawfords voice. It is so perfect, i just cant see how anyone could think of usin everyone else. I have the CD of the show, and it sings me to sleep every night. I have become completly obsessed with Crawford and the Phantom, and I think others should be given the chance to experience that wonderful feeling. It is only right. He IS the Phantom, our true Angel of Music, and no one else can ever take his place. Crawford for Phantom 4eva!!!!!! Love Alex, 14

Comments: I just recieved a Phantom Movie Update in my email regarding the casting of Gerard Butler as the Phantom.I was outraged by this news. First of all, didn't the Powers that Be want a big name for the Phantom? I, for one, have never heard of Gerard Butler. How then, can he be considered a big name? Second, the quote where Michael Crawford fans should stay home also outraged me. Most Michael Crawford fans are also Phantom of the Opera phans. Many of them, myself included, after seeing or in my case hearing him sing the part on the OCR, became a Michael Crawford fan because of his wonderful protrayal of Erik, the Phantom of the Opera. He is the one that created the role, that breathed life into Erik, that made audiences world wide sympathize with this disfigured genius. How can others even think of casting anyone other than Michael Crawford for the role of the Phantom? After all, when people hear his name, they immeditatly think of the Phantom of the Opera. Finally, the age issue is driving me insane! I am only sixteen, and I do not want to see someone in their twenties play the Phantom! It does not appeal to me! I mean come on, isn't the whole point of the story suppose to be an older phantom in love with a young chorus girl who has to choose between him and another man her own age? How can you have two men, roughly the same age fight over a girl also of the same age group and expect it to have the same heart-wrenching effect as the orginial? It is not possible! I sincerely hope that Mr. Webber and Mr. Schumacher read all of these posts and will possibly have a change of heart. Michael Crawford is the one true phantom and will always be in the hearts of his and Phantom of the Opera phans all over the world. Sincerely, Kelley Anne Blessing

Comments: This Phantom fan certainly WILL stay home, Joel Schumaker(or whatever your name is). There is NO Phantom voice like Michael Crawford's. He MADE the part! Age is hardly a factor for this role, since the phantom was not a young man. I have seen others play the part in the stage version and not one could compare to Michael's portrayal.

Comments: Joel Schumacher doesn't have to worry. If Michael Crawford isn't cast as the Phantom I plan on staying home and keeping my money. I'm wondering what age has to do with the casting as the phantom wears a mask so what difference does it make how old he is? MICHAEL CRAWFORD RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: I am a phantom phreak. No, you don't understand. I live and breathe phantom. I can relate anything to phantom, because it's my life. There's nobody in the world who deserves to play the Phantom more than Michael Crawford. I mean, if he doesn't get the role, imagine who will. The Phantom of the Opera will be ruined forever. You can't get some random pop star in there and ruin the portrayal of HIM completely, just for fame and money! Mr. Crawford has not only earned the right and priveledge to take on such a duty, but he has to! The Phantom IS Michael Crawford! Seriously, say 'Crawford' and what's the first thing that comes to mind? If he doesn't get the role, I will COMMIT SUICIDE! Michael Crawford CREATED the character, and he is the only person out there good enough, talented enough, and worthy enough to play such a role! Now while I'm at it, my beloved Sarah Brightman should be Christine Daaé again also. She is the angel of music, and her and Michael need to work together again to creative the world of the Phantom on the Opera once again on film rather than on stage. Thank you.

Comments: They say sometimes it only takes one vote to make a difference. If that's true, hopefully this will be the vote that casts Michael in the role that's ALWAYS BEEN synonymous with his name. Wouldn't it be awesome to have Michael in the role as Phantom and Charlotte Church as Christine!?

Comments: I have gone to Phantom of the Opera three times. And although the man singing the part of Phantom does a fine job, I always think of Michael Crawford.

Michael Crawford will always be considered the true phantom. It would be different if this was long past his prime of singing but the last time I heard him his voice is still strong.

Michael Crawford has built a name for himself and deserves to play this part on the big screen.

When I heard that he wouldn't be considered for the role I was very disappointed. Sad when the perfect person for the role might be replaced for a younger person who doesn't come close to how the role should sound.

These are my two cents worth. I will be reluctant to see a movie at all without Michael Crawford being in it.

Thank you for your time in listening.

Tina

Comments: I think Michael Craeford is blatently the best phantom ever. Some people dont seem to realise that people care about the quality of the singing, not a young hollywood actor that people are after. The man IS Michael Crawford!! But if we cant have him, at least give the phantom the honour of a proper singer who can play the part with the excellence it deserves, there are other good phantoms out there...so please dont cast someone because they are young and "attractive" mr Webber, yse your common sense!!

Comments: No pretty-boy Phantoms in their thirties for us! Since the man has to be covered in makeup and a mask anyway, what does it matter how old he is or even what he looks like? (Although Michael Crawford is still looking pretty darn good, thank you very much!) All we want is a Phantom who can sing circles around everyone else and who, by the way, has won all kinds of acting awards, and that's Michael. Without him, I'm not even interested. Thank you for listening!

Comments: Michael Crawford is the only man that can make the Phantom come to life. After seeing him as the Phantom audiences will be expecting too much from the movie version if he is not in it and will be sadly diappointed.

Comments: As I read these other entrees, I began to relate to them. I love Antonio Banderes. But, this is not supposed to take place in South America. He did the song, but I didn't get those enchanting chills that only Mr. Crawford can send the audiance. As for John Travolta... who sees him in a brilliantly moving musical. If you said that Grease is a musical, you'd be right; however that doesn't involve moving an entire audiance to wonder, awe, suspence, tears, and love from a voice. He does his part with all of his heart. Again, I am 14 years old and Mr. Webber, I really believe that if you have a shred of dignity left, you will cast Micheal. If you say that he's too old therefore not able to play it, that's like saying the production itself is too old. He's behind a mask with makeup. Except for Julie Andrews and Sarah Brightman he has the best voice that has ever sung on this earth! You're stripping an extraordinary man from the only man he can ever be-Eric, The Phantom of the Opera Populaire. I've read the book, seen the play a million times, own the original CD, and I can tell you that it would me wrong not to put this man in the part. I hope that Mr. Webber looks at this site and takes a look at all these loyal fans who are lucky enough to have found this site. There are still millions out there who have not been here who are just as outraged as all of us are. Please Mr. Webber! Don't rob Mr. Crawford of his only true role. He Is the Phantom. Sincerely, Shannon McLaughlin

Comments: Ever since I was about 8....I have loved The Phantom of the Opera...Recently I went to see The Phantom of the Opera and it was wonderful..Michael Crawford is defintley the man for this film..How could Andrew Lloyd Webber even think about someone else...Michael is the best actor and singer that has ever played the Phantom...If Andrew Lloyd Webber wants a good selling movie...then Michael Crawford is the guy for this role. If anyone else plays the phantom in his movie....more than likely he will not have a good movie...People wants to buy what they think is the best...Michael is certainly the best for this film.and he is what the people want...not some imitator...And to think that he is to old...He has the voice that he has always had...he has the talent...and he has the ability to play this role...Why not give him this role ....the guy that made the phantom famous....MICHAEL CRAWFORD IS THE ONE......so i hope to seem him in the upcoming film....THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA................

MICHAEL CRAWFORD IS THE ONE!!!!..

Michael

Comments: I am only 14 years old and have been a fan of Micheal Crawford FOREVER!! He's the best. The only reason for loving The Phantom is because he is the man in the mask!! If he can get a teen from today to get upset over this, then I think that the decision is simple... MICHEAL CRAWFORD, REGARDLESS OF HIS AGE, SHOULD BE THE PHANTOM IN THE MOVIE... END OF STORY. USE YOUR BRAIN GUYS! Only one man can move an audiance to tears in the way that he does. The Australian who says he saw better must be crazy!! I'm from America and he blows every other actor away for that play. The movie will make tons of money just because the play was so popular, but think of how much they'll get if the real thing is in it. I'm sure Mr. Crawford is tearing his hair out over this. Do yourselves and everyone else a favor and use the one and only MICHEAL CRAWFORD!!!

Comments: I think Andrew Lloyd Webber is a PRIZE IDIOT who has lost touch with the outside world. Look at his latest flops if you do not believe me. When has he had such a massive hit since PHANTOM?? He just does not know what the public want any longer. And what the public want is to see MICHAEL CRAWFORD as the Phantom in the fim...no matter what age he is. To say he is TOO OLD is ridiculous when the Phantom spends all his time hidden behind a mask. What does age matter when MICHAEL CRAWFORD still has the VOICE and THE PULLING POWER and the VOTE OF THE WORLD??? And of course, the whole story line is based upon an older man loving a younger woman??? Andrew Lloyed Webber, get your priorities straight and give the roles to MICHAEL CRAWFORD and SARAH BRIGHTMAN who originally created the roles, or else suffer the consequencecs. And while we are about it, why not just issue a video recording of the two? That would sell just as well. Look at Les Miserable if you don't know what I mean. This is going to be ANOTHER FLOP for you. Andrew Lloyd Webber has long since forgotten what people want to see. Get rid of Andrew Lloyd Webber and bring in Michael Crawford. LONG LIVE MICHAEL CRAWFORD AS THE PHANTOM.

Comments: Just yesterday I took part in a Talent Show at my High School where I performed "Music of The Night." I found the video clips very intriguing in how Michael portrays the Phantom, I tried to imitate the power that he has. Michael Crawford has EARNED the right to have the role of the Phantom of the Opera, I hope if and when the movie comes out that Michael will be leading the way in all his phantasmal glory.

Comments: No interest in a movie of the Phantom without Michael Crawford...like trying to do a remake of Gone With the Wind..it just wouldn't cut it.

Age shouldn't be a factor. Michael Crawford's portrayal of Phantom is captivating because of his singing and his presence, not his looks (most of which are covered by make up anyway)not that they need to be!

I haven't watched a clip of his Phantom in years, and after years it is just as powerful as it ever was.

Antonio's attempt was almost embarrassing, and honestly John Travolta, who isn't that young either, I'm sorry...but no.

Comments: I am so in love with the Phantom of the Opera since I was 10, and my Aunt took me to go see it as a birthday present. I then heard the michael crawford version on the cd set that my mother owns, and I love him as the phantom. i could not believe it when I heard that they were making a movie and that they might not want Michael to play him. I will be deeply depressed if they don't let him be it. So i hope for the best nad that Michael will always be the PHantom to me.

Comments: I have surfed in before and have written. I can't imagine not having the greatest, most ghoulish Phantom "Michael Crawford," in this movie. The movie its self needs to hurry up and start with production. This is my dream to become the next Phantom of the Opera. I still want to make the right choice. Andrew Lloyd still can write the best and meletonius music.

Comments: Mr. Webber, Do you realize the value of your music to the people of a small classless town? For the many people in the High School Choir, your Phantom has made the classical dream a reality. Your beautiful opera has challenged students to become more than just singers, but to become professional musicians. I want to thank you for that, however your decision to cast anyone but the briliant Michael Crawford would be a mistake on your part. I personally do not think that the phans of your musical will appreciate anyone but the one who made it what it is. I encourage you to ponder your decision and the petitions of your phans. Thank you Mr. Webber, Sincerly, Jessica Moynihan

Comments: In reply to the above statement by Killashandra; The Phantom IS an older man, remember Christine confuses him with the memory of her father.

I've seen the musical with many different leading men, but M.C. seemed to have more heart in it than any of the others. I don't believe he is too old, after all, what does age matter to love or music?

He is still sexy, charming, a wonderful performer, and an amazing voice.

While I think many actors would do well in the part, I think only Michael can bring that special charisma that sends chills up and down my spine whenever I listen to his performance.

My vote is for Michael Crawford, the True and Eternal Phantom of the Opera.
