Comments: I am a Michael Crawford fan (or should I say PHAN!?!). I think ALW is being stupid not to cast MC. Who in the name of all the gods wants to see a John Travolta or a Phantom with and accent?

Comments: Other than Antonio Banderas, I cannot think of any Hollywood name who possesses the vocal authority needed to play the Phantom. Michael Crawford IS the Phantom and is the ONLY actor capable of giving the the role the strength, passion, and tenderness that it requires.

P.S... Also, I personally think Antonio Banderas would make a pretty good Raoul.

Comments: I am the biggest Phantom fan you could imagine. I have been to the show twice and gained something more each time. Also one of my friends played Carlotta in the Edinburgh cast and I loved her in it of course (What a voice). Luv your site and hope they cast Michael Crawford.

Comments: Michael Crawford, without a doubt, is the best Phantom ever.. The only way the movie will be a success is if MICHAEL plays HIS ROLE, THE PHANTOM. There is no other, no one. ONLY MICHAEL, he was born to do it!!

Shame on you Lord Lloyd-Webber, Michael is not to old...and if it wasn}t for him and Sarah B the Phantom musical would not be what it is today... I think they create the most important thing in the play, they played it with there heart, otherwise I and all other here would}t love them so...

Comments: I have seen Michael several times in his role as the Phantom. I have also seen "others" in the role...there is no comparison. He takes you on a ride of emotion with his performance...he is incredible and I can not imagine anyone else in the role. I can not believe that "Hollywood" would consider anyone but him...A younger Phantom?? Who cares...he wears a mask! Michael made the role...it is his!

Comments: Long before I saw the Phantom of the Opera I listened to the soundtrack featuring Michael Crawford. I finally got to see it at The Fox Theatre in St. Louis Missouri and although I loved it, it just wasn't the same without Michael in the lead. I think it would be a shame if he was not cast in the lead when and if they ever do a movie. As one person stated Michael isn't getting any younger. I hope Mr. Webber quits fooling around and lets the movie be made with Michael in the lead. As for Antonio Banderas as the lead or anyone else for that matter it would be a disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: I really like this site, and I hope the Phantom movie is a success. Tonight I sang in a concert with my chorus and one of the songs we sang was "Music Of The Night." We sang it pretty well, and I even hit the highest notes in the whole song!! Anyway, the chorus sang it pretty well, but only Michael Crawford can do the song justice.

Comments: I feel, along with the other people commenting, that not casting Michael Crawford would be a mistake. I was introduced to this musical and since then, it has become my favorite and i think it owns the greatest all time finale. I know a lot of musicals and saying that this one was my favorite right after hearing it, is a huge compliment. Unfortunatly, i have never had the chance to see Mr. Crawford play the phantom. Seeing him in the movie would be the next best thing. Look what happened to the Jekyll and Hyde movie. They gave the title role to a name everybody in the world knows, and it was a flop. David Hasselhoff cannot sing and he disgraced the part, shortly after that the show left Broadway. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO PHANTOM!

Comments: Who can not fall in love with Michael Crawford's voice?? My Phantom of the Opera cd's have become permanent in my stereo along with MC's cd's from singing Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's music etc... In all of the books written and adapted from Gaston's book have had a phantom that is older than Christine. I just hope to all above that there are no singer voiceovers as there was in the TV miniseries (although the singers were very good, it just did not seem connected with the cast).

Comments: Personally I LOVE Michael Crawfords voice and strongly think that if the film is ever made he SHOULD play the Phantom. I did see a crappy music video (in which Michael Crafords voice and face do not appear) with Sara Brightman from some best of Andrew Lloyd Webber video, and I believe it was made some time after thier divorce so there may be a possibility of her starring, that is to say they had to have been on speaking terms to make this creation. Not to mention the "Cats" film version wich I believe featres Sara Brightman as well. I truly believe that Warner Brothers would make more money casting Michael. Crawford would be a wise choise considering his popularity, meaning they dont need to cast some idiot famous Hollywood guy just cause he's young- M.C. can carry his own wieght- people know who he is. Bottomline Michael Crawford should play the Phantom.

Comments: I was first introduced to the Phantom in 1991 by watching the Bob Hope Special. In 1992, I got to see the musical in Chicago, and from then on I was hooked. I am glad that it is finally coming to the big screen, but would rather see Mr. Michael Crawfordon the silver screen. I love his voice and only he can sing me to sleep at night.

Comments: Hello! While I respect the acting abilities of many hollywood actors, there is a definate distinction between the acting styles of film and stage. There is a way of moving, the way one speaks (I won't even mention Mr. Crawfords vastly superior voice to most hollywood actors.. oops, I just did)that only one familiar with the stage could hope to deliver in a performance. Erik - the Phantom - would express himself more in the way of a stage actor than a hollywood actor. It would be a horrible mistake to get someone only familiar with film to play this part, and I truely hope the producers put Mr. Crawford back into consideration, that is if he's still interested in the part.

Comments: I have not had the please of seeing the actual show yet, but fortunatley have the original CD of P.O.T.O. The one with Micheal Crawford singing. I would just like to say that Phantom of the Opera without him, is nothing. His voice is like nothing I have ever heard before. He is a true Angel of Music. I support you utmostly in your campaign, and hope it succeeds. I look forward to seeing the film. Micheal Crawford is a gift to us, and the title of Phantom of the Opera should go to no1 but him. Good luck.

Erik would be proud. Alex, 14

Comments: I have loved the Phanton for years. I got to see it last year. It was great, but the vioce of Michael Crawford is the most haunting and loved voice I have ever heard. I listen to my sound trak with him all the time. I would love to have amovie in my home with his magical voice, so that I can better share my love for the Phantom with my 5 year old son.

Comments: Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman

When will they realize that is the cast we want?

I always though ALW was really in it for the music, if so why is he trying to ruin the show that is loved by so many people? The role IS the man and the man IS Michael Crawford

Comments: I cant believe that they want to cast anyone apart from Michael Crawford as the phantom. He is the one and only!!! Have you checked out the news. The director sems like some kind of dumbass. He was talking aboutusing a young actor that fans will identify with like Leonardo Dicaprio..what si up with that?? And from what i have heard they are not even casting Sarah Brightman as christine, the were talking about Anne Hathaway!!! There is othing wrong with these people, as long as they stick in their own films...when will they realize who the fans really want???

Comments: Andrew Lloyd Webber: I don't think you care so much about your Phantom of the Opera anymore, even though you got the movie rights back. You want to mess it up, different songs, different cast...it's such a sad, sad story! Sadder than the Phantom story even! Now you tell me, who would you cast as Andrew Lloyd Webber in your life story? Someone who has a completely different accent than you do? Someone that no one can even remotely picture playing you? Someone with no idea of the passion you bring to your music? I think not. I think you would want someone who understands you, someone whose portrayal, if you were lucky enough, oozed with the essence of your talent. Well, Michael Crawford did that to Erik, the Phantom. I think his abundant talent, inspired by your music, set the standard for the Phantom's emotions, his physical presence, and his ethereal (in this case meaning heavenly or celestial) voice. Don't lower your standards for this one. If you really want to make it the best you can, pick up the phone, call Michael and say, "Michael, we really MUST do the Phantom of the Opera together!" Then you can sit back and count all your money and we can sit back in a dark theatre and envelope ourselves in pure auditory Utopia! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: The fanbase for Michael Crawford and The Phantom of the Opera is very large, and will make up a huge percentage of the movie's audience. Mr. Crawford IS the Phantom, and casting someone like Antonio Banderas or John Travolta for this legendary role is outragous. The talented Mr. Lloyd-Webber said himself that the movie would adhere to the musical's original integretiy. Casting a young pop-movie star such as Anne Hathaway as Christine is bad enough, but Antonio Banderas?? Please, to all those responsible for creating this film; don't disapoint the Phantom fans. Mr. Crawford is the only person who could do the role justice, and I promise that his fans' ticket sales alone would make the choice financially worthwhile. In the original book, the Phantom was in his late 50s! Please hear our voices.

Comments: I think it is really stupid that they are cutting out stuff and making a movie. They should record a stage performance of it like they did with CATS. There are a lot of people who can't see it on stage, so they should have the stage version on tape so that people can see it. Their idea is stupid. And the guy who did the Phantom on the soundtrack has an amazing voice. These movie people suck. Lyzzie

Comments: I have been a POTO/Michael Crawford fan for nearly 15 years and the thought that anyone but Michael being cast as our beloved "Phantom" is unfathomable to me! Shame on "Sir" Andrew L. Webber and the studio executives that care more about quanity (money) than quality. It is Capitalistic views such as theirs that is ruining the arts!

Furthermore, Michael Crawford is the right age! The character of "Erik" is older and have we forgotten, DISFIGURED! Who cares if he has a few wrinkles!

Comments: Someone please explain to me how ALW could even consider casting someone other than Micheal Crawford for the role of the Phantom?

No one really cares about his age! I personally would prefer to see an older actor play the Phantom than some talentless Hollywood wannabe who requires several months of vocal training and still ends up sounding like a cat being castrated!

Shame on you Lord Lloyd-Webber!
