Comments: Micheal Crawford is the best, only and original phantom! No one can take his place on stage or on the silverscreen. There is only one way to truly capture the spirit of the Phantom of the Opera, by casting the original Phantom Micheal Crawford!

Comments: Any idiot would know that if anyone else besides Micheal Crawford plays as the Phantom the movie will only lose money. I will go see it, but I won't like it, and I won't go see it again. That's probably true for every POTO phan. That is more than 7500 people. I wouldn't risk my life for a younger "actor."

Comments: Let Michael Crawford star as the Phantom!!!!!!!!!!He's the only one who could ever bring justice to that role!!!!!!!!!From all of these other entries, I can tell that if you don't cast Michael Crawford as Phantom, few people will watch your movie at all.I, being a person who watches or listens to ANYTHING Phantom of the Opera, will never even look at your movie if Michael Crawford isn't the Phantom!!!!!!!!

Comments: As a 14 year old who adores The Phantom of the Opera I don't understand how ALW could not cast Micheal Crawford as the Phantom for the movie. To not use Micheal Crawford would kill the movie. Not to mention the fact that the only way I would see the movie is if Micheal Crawford is in the role of the Phantom. We are the people that want to see the movie the way it should be. I was inspired to start singing because of Micheal Crawford and the oringnal cast of The Phantom of the Opera. My dream is to go on Broadway as Christine. How can they not cast the man who has inspried so many people?

Comments: I LOVE Phantom of the Opera. I am 13 years old, and have never seen the play. It isn't going to come to my state anymore. I love the music from it. Could someone please email me and tell me what's going on? So, they're going to make a new movie of Phantom of the Opera and Anne Hathaway might be Christine and Michael Crawford might be the Phantom? COOL!

Comments: I have been a fan of Michael's since Hello Dolly. Since being an ex-judge for Talent America I had a chance to look at some of the best talent in the Country. I still think that I will never find a talent like Michael's. I pray that he gets the part in the movie. There should be no doubt. He is NUMBER ONE!

Comments: Michael Crawford is THE best Phantom you will ever see. He has the most wonderful talent. Words cannot express just how wonderful he is. I'm 18 and have never had the experience of seeing Michael in the role but just having the original cast recording of the show is more than enough proof that he should be in the movie version. He made me cry bucketfuls by just listening to him. That is not satisfying enough. I want to see him as the Phantom. If not on stage then on the film version. If the powers that be are reading this then CAST Michael Crawford in the role that he was destined to play. If not then you are going to leave all us fans(and that is a LOT)extremely disappointed. Michael,i love you xxxxxx

Comments: I for one can say that if they put anyone other than Michael Crawford in the role of the Phantom, they won't be getting any of my box office dollars. And the rest of my family feels the same way. I hope you read this Mr. Webber, if it's true you are the one who doesn't want him. What is the sense in casting some hot young star in a role where their face doesn't even show? Michael Crawford is nice looking and is a really good actor, and he's got one thing that nobody else can come even close to touching---THAT VOICE!!!!!! I hope you wake up and realize that putting anyone else in the role will doom your movie. I think you underestimate the loyalty the fans have for Michael!

Comments: Michael Crawford is the Phantom! I am listening the the CD while I surf this site. Antonio as the Phantom - what a joke!! No one could ever take the place of Michael Crawford - he is truly an outstanding performer. I saw him in Dance of the Vampires and thought he was absolutely fantastic. There is no question about it, Michael Crawford should play the Phantom in the movie.

Comments: Hey! I am a young teenaged girl and have never seen Michael Crawford on stage before...so the movie that I have heard so much about would be a great opportunity only IF Michael Crawford is Phantom. I have heard him and heard what the Phans say about him and WANT to see him. Besides...Michael Crawford is more familiar to Phantom as he had played Erik many times. There is no way anyone can be too old to be Phantom! (unless of course that person is over a hundred....) Antonio Banderas can't possibly be Phantom! No offense but he just doesn't have IT. I've heard him in Zorro and Interview with the Vampire and he has a SPANISH accent! Do you read me? SPANISH ACCENT!!! I don't believe that Erik is Spanish is he? No! Erik should be French! I've heard Michael Crawford and he has IT! And another thing...it'd be a BIG problem if Michael Crawford doesn't play Phantom. Because there is a lotta Phans out there who want him. most of my friends and their families are phans of him. So it'd be a big problemo if Michael Crawford Phans doesn't wanna watch the movie because THE Phantom, Michael Crawford, isn't playing as Phantom. So please... think about your audience...it'd really spoil the movie if Michael Crawford isn't Phantom. Besides...I'm sure there are a lot of young Michael Crawford Phans like me and have never seen him perform and would like to see Mr. Crawford be Phantom once more...Please... Let the Music of the Night arise in all its glory again! Don't let it end!

Comments: You're kidding me! Antonio as Phantom? He may have the looks (no pun intended) but he's no Michael Crawford. Mr. Crawford is THE Phantom of the opera. If it weren't for him, the musical might not have been such a hit or even launched! Besides...age is not a factor when choosing someone as Phantom. The Phantom IS supposed to be old anyway...and Mr Crawford has a great singing voice! And after so long as The Phantom, I'm sure he can slip more easily into the role at the drop of a hat! So please...do change your mind and make Mr. Crawford as the Phantom...think how disappointed us Phans would be if he wasn't the Phantom.

Comments: H! My name is Samantha, and even though I've never seen the show live, I've listened to the cd's and, there isn't a doubt in my mind that Michael is the best PHANTOM EVER!!! And if they cast Antonio as the phantom, they will be making a HUGE mistake! The reason I this is because Antonio has a spanish accent, and therefore couldn't pull off the french accent needed for the PHANTOM. Now Mr. Crawford has the accent, and he isn't a man who played the phantom, he is the PHANTOM!! And always will be. And if they don't cast Mr, Crawford as the PHANTOM, then I probably won't go see it!!!

Signed A 13 year old girl, with an un-dying love for The Phantom Of The Opera, Samantha Genova

Comments: When I heard a rummor that they planned to cast John Travolta for this role, I nearly cried! Antonio is a slightly better choice. But NO ONE can even come close to Michael Crawford. He is the only choice, and the only one who could make money for this movie. I think, since Lord Lloyd-Webber and Ms. Brightman seem to be on speaking terms now, they should pick up where they left off with the movie production and give the people what they have been promising for over ten years!

Comments: It's unbelievable that ALW would even consider using anyone else in this role. Does he have any idea how much bad press can cost him? If they cast someone else, and that person is not up to the performance we'd have gotten from Michael Crawford, the entire movie will have the buzz of "not as good as Michael" attached to it. Add to that the loss of ticket sales from MC's fans dragging their friends and family for multiple viewings, and the lost purchases of uber-special-edition-DVDs which we'd all be clamoring to buy with MC, and you've got some serious financial danger here. ALW: Listen to the fans! We're the ones who can create the strongest positive buzz for this movie! We're prevalent in both NY and LA, two cities critical to generating buzz about movies. You can't afford NOT to cast MC!

Comments: I just found out today that they are going to make the movie. I found this web site just checking it out.

Well, I did check out the Antonio B. versus Michael videos. In addition, I had seen the Antonio video on PBS.

I can't believe they are even considering him. He just does not have the vocal quality of Michael. They only way, I truly believe, they would give the role to Antonio would be if he PAID them!! I cringe when I hear Antonio sing. Let Simon decide!

Comments: How great would it be to finally have this movie out with the original phantom? Whenever I hear Michael Crawford's name, I think "The Phantom of the Opera". I believe the movie would profit just as much, or even more, if THE man was cast over some famous actor who will only mimic what Michael already created on the stage. Not only is he the original, he IS the Phantom and always will be! MICHAEL CRAWFORD FOR PHANTOM ALL THE WAY!!!

Comments: Since the age of 5 when the movie was supposed to be made I have been anxiously awaiting my chance to see Michael Crawford in the film role of the Phantom. I, along with many other people I know (including my family and friends) will not see the film if Michael Crawford is not cast in it. That might not seem like a big deal, but I am just one person, and there are MANY, MANY others who feel the same way as me.

Comments: I would LOVE to see Michael Crawford in the Phantom movie. I came along too late to ever see him in the role, though I have seen the play 7 times and love it. In the original story, the Phantom is SUPPOSED to be an older man, not some Hollywood hotty in a mask. At his current age, MC would be perfect. (note..nothing against Antonio B. I loved him in Evita) Keep up the fight! Ellie in KC

Comments: Antonio Banderas is a joke! My 12 year old son says there is no comparison. I did not know that the phantom is supposed to have a Spanish accent. HA,HA

Michael Crawford is spectacular. He is and will always be the only phantom.

Comments: i love phantom and i wish i had seen it in the theatre with the original cast. the thing with films is they usually go right off the rails and if this one is not going too then great stuff. i can only think of michael crawford as the phantom and sarah brightman as christine. i went to see it in london a while back and i couldn't help thinking... yes, i loved every minute of it, and am desperate to see it again, but it would have been more special had the originals been doing it. LONG LIVE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA... MAY IT'S SPLENDOUR NEVER FADE.

Comments: I agree to the filming of the "Phantom of the Opera" staring Michael Crawford very much. I feel that it is a great thing that you're doing. I do have a suggestion though.... ask Sarah Brightman if she would do the role of Christine then it would really get my mom and I to come see the movie. Even though we will already. Comments: I was astounded by some numbers I saw in a post on the message board and decided to put them in the guestbook as an entry because these numbers need to be seen by the people who will be casting this movie.

Well, it seems we can add Jim Fischer's name to the millions who identify Michael Crawford as the phantom. Let' see...

20,000,000 cast albums sold with Crawford as the phantom; that's got to equal to at least 40,000,000 people who know that Michael Crawford is the phantom.

Then, we can go back to his performances:

36 months in 3 different cities; 2 different countries

We know Her Majesty's is small (1000 people maybe? maybe smaller?) The Majestic in NY seats 1600 The Ahmanson in LA held about 1800 then

36 months * 4 weeks per month = 144 weeks * 8 performances per week = 1,152 performances approximately

Let's say an average audience was 1400 (since he played L.A. longer than either NY or London). 1400 people * 1152 performances = 1,612,000 people who saw Michael Crawford on stage and know he's the phantom.

Then there's "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber" concert tours:

3 separate tours of the U.S. in which 2 out of the 3 played U.S. cities for 1 or 2 weeks at a time; probably 7 performances each week. A tour of Australia (maybe New Zealand too; can't remember) A tour of the U.K.

More millions of people who saw Michael Crawford on stage perform the music from POTO. They know who the phantom is.

The Michael Crawford concert taped in the U.S. for airing on PBS stations in the U.S. and parts of Canada that pick up some of these stations. The same concert available on video and DVD for viewing worldwide. The millions of people who have seen this show know who the phantom is.

Fact: There is no one in the world better known as the Phantom of the Opera than Michael Crawford.

We know this; the people who sign our guestbooks know this; Jim Fischer at the Chicago Sun Times knows this. Surely ALW knows this too.

Michael Crawford + POTO = $ for ALW. That has been a winning formula for over 16 years.

There's an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." This formula ain't broke. Let's hope ALW and JS think twice before trying to "fix" it.

Comments: C'mon now people, I'm probably more of a Hollywood nut than anyone else...but I'm also a huge theatre fan. Why pay millions of dollars to Hollywood actors to perform the roles that were made famous by countless hard-working theatre actors? These theatre actors are more deserving of the chance to honour those roles and to make some money than any Hollywood substitute. Let those who made Phantom such a phenomenon reap the benefits of their talents and hardwork. Casting anyone but those theatre actors is morally reprehensible. To the Hollywood executives whose eyes are solely on the bottom line - trust the thousands of people who are telling you that in this case, having some hotshot Hollywood name on the billet will not put Phantom fans in the seats. Do right by the original theatre actors and the fans who wish to see those actors portray these loved characters.

Comments: This part belongs to one man. Yes in Toronto, Colm did a very good job, but he wasn't Crawford. ALW knew what he was doing when he first put Crawford in the show, do not make the mistake of not puting him in the movie. Even though you don't see the face, it is the voice and emotions that get the job done and no one is better for the part than the man who created it!!!!

Comments: The fact that Mr. Crawford's voice, his emotions and complete domination of the stage made the show the success it has beome is surely enough testiment to the fact that he should be given the lead role. Ok so a "big" name might be an actor, but can they sing with passion & committment & have the strength that Michael Crawford has in abundance, or can they have the mere presence required for such a role? Surely the role was "made" for one person only!

Comments: I found this message on the campaign's message board and thought it was too good to get lost there so I've copied it below for inclusion in your guestbooks. This explains why Michael Crawford is the best choice to play the phantom in the POTO movie.

A movie like POTO not only doesn't need a big name actor, a big name actor as the phantom will actually detract from it. POTO succeeds or fails on its ability to draw the audience into the story. If the audience is distracted thinking about WHO is under the mask and regretting that some cute actor has his face covered up or is busy thinking I didn't know he could sing they're not into the movie. Alfred Hitchcock said one reason to cast a star is because it saves you 20 minutes establishing his character. Cast a star whose persona matches the character and the audience brings with it their impressions of the actor and their previous roles. In a lot of cases this works. In something like POTO it's a major distraction. Movies that no one knows what they are about may benefit from having a star or a name that gives the audience a clue what to expect or draws attention to the movie. Movies that have name recognition and a ready made fan base such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and POTO not only don't need "big names"; casting "big names" is more likely to turn that fan base off than do anything else. The minute the studios start talking about how they need some "Name" they are sending the fans the message that they don't have enough faith in their product and that their main interest is NOT in making the best movie possible. Studios underestimate their audiences. A great movie makes the stars the stars don't make the movie. Titanic made Leo and Kate big not vice versa. Leo's next movie went right down the tubes. It's not the star that makes the hit; it's the coming together of the right actor in the right role. It's often a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Casablanca with Ronald Reagan would have been a different movie than Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart. The remake of Psycho didn't hold a candle to the original. Lucy instead of Angela in Mame was a disaster. Good word of mouth and enthusiastic fan support will do more to make a movie a hit than any "big name" can possibly do.

Comments: Thirteen years ago, the public was told that Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman will be casted in the movie "The Phantom of the Opera." Also, there was no mention of discrepancies of any kind from the most recent stage version. Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's devourse with Sarah Brightman did make his life difficult, but it did not change what the public was told and has been anticipating for many years.

Comments: I really can't imagine anyone other than Michael Crawford to play in this movie. I've seen this play 2 times and though I thoroughly enjoyed it both times I wished to have seen it w/the original Phantom. I love the Original Broadway Cast and in my opinion they should try to get the whole original cast to be in this movie and bring the magic that cast started to all.

Comments: I first heard Phantom of the Opera when I was 9. My sister had the soundtrack and went to see the musical. When I first heard POTO i fell in love with it. i didn;t know what they were saying or what was going on but i would lay my head next to the speaker and just listen. i loved the startled/scared feeling i would get from the screams. As i got older, i understood the story and fell in love with it. for my 11th b-day i got The Complete Phantom of the Opera. Now, i am 14. In a month and a half, i will see the musical for the first time.

I love Erik. i love Micheal Crawford. to me, they are one in the same. having a more "popular" actor in the movie will mess up everything. Most importantly the spirit of the story.

MICHEAL CRAWFORD OR BUST!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: I have seen Phantom of the Opera three times. Once in New York (with Michael Crawford), once in London and once in Atlanta and although all were wonderful, Michael Crawford IS the Phantom and the others were understudies. Some actors/singers just were born to play certain roles - Julie Andrews comes to mind as Maria in the Sound of Music -and Michael Crawford was born to be the Phantom. It would be creative suicide to cast anyone else in the movie of Phantom. Julie Andrews WAS Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady - Audrey Hepburn was NOT when that movie was made. There is no question that Michael Crawford should play the Phantom and Sara Brightman should play Christine. GOOD LORD PEOPLE LETS GET ON WITH MAKING THIS MOVIE AND MAKING IT WITH THE CORRECT ACTORS/SINGERS IN THE LEAD ROLES. They are getting older and so am I!! Please leave your egos at the door!

Comments: Ok, this is something that is a big deal to me, and this is something that I have been holding in for a long time, and I wish to say this.

I was told the only reason RUG cast AB in the role of Che was because he was the teen hottie obsession at the time. And so maybe a whole bunch of people would flock to the movie theaters just to see him act in a part they either:

1. Did not know ANYTHING about 2. Or, as long as he is in it, I'll see it even if I hate it.

Getting back to Phantom, this is the same thing which just might happen. You're gonna cast someone who is all the teen hottie obsession, oh, it looks like it already happened with Miss Katie Holmes. "She's perfect for the part! Lets cast her!" BUT U R FORGETING: "Whoops, she can't sing, but she is sure to get our money's worth watching her suck."

Well, for one, that is CERTAINLY NOT how you do it. You cast someone with voice and who has HAD acting lessons, and not just being on TV for the last 6 years. This is a musical for crying out loud! Not a sitcom.

I say this in the best possible voice I can say: If you do not see reason beyond your stupidity, then you're gonna have to face the rest of the time making this movie, with people who hate you. They will hate you because you messed up the only other musical besides CATS which gave you all your creditability. There is a poem called "The Road Not Taken", and I suggest you read that poem and think about what it says. Till then, you choose your path, beware though how you come to face it.

Comments: Michael Crawford is phantom no one else is. I'm 12 i heard an angel sing when i was 7. I beleive in the phantom of the opera. A lot people think i'm weird but i know that Michael Crawford is an angel of music. By not putting him in the movie, you are breaking the hearts of millions. You heard him sing and if you don't think he's great you are tone dead. He's the one who showed me to live life to the fullest. He's the one that gave me my dream. He's the one who made me beleive in the music of the night. If you don't cast the person who inspires me every second of my life to do my best you'll break my heart and every one else's who heard the music of the night.

Comments: I always admire people willing to fight for what they truly believe in, especially when it's a fight like this, one worth fighting for.

I first became interested in The Phantom of the Opera when I was about ten, I heard the Highlights CD and I was going to see the Australian production, unfortunately my mother couldn't get tickets, and there my interest died.

I was browsing through a movie rumour page awhile back and found an article on a Phantom movie, I did a bit of searching and came across this site.

I started listening to the Highlights CD again, then went out and bought the full album. I have never seen the Poto on stage, but I know that if I see it on screen, I want it to be with the original phantom.

Great site, I especially like the movie clips.

Keep Fighting Chris

Comments: Oh my gosh! I cannot believe that people would actually want to have someone besides Michael Crawford. I recently just heard the cd for the first time, I've never even seen the musical and for a matter of fact I didnt even really know what it was about, just small little hints about it. Anyways, I listened to that cd all the way through and absolutely LOVED Michael Crawford's voice!!! I sing in my high school choir, I do musicals and plays but those could NEVER compare to Phantom of the Opera!! I fell completly in LOVE with Michael Crawford and his beautiful voice. And whatever anyone thinks, HE NEEDS TO BE THE PHANTOM IN THAT MOVIE!!!! He's done thousands of performances of Phantom, and nobody in the entire world has ANYTHING on him!!! I can't believe there is a websight to where people hope and demand to see Michael Crawford as the Phantom, It should be inevitable!

Long Live Theatre, Music and Entertainment from Michael Crawford, may he dominate over all and get what is rightfully his!!! :) :)
