Comments: I've seen POTO 14 times, all in San Francisco and Sacramento. If Michael Crawford is not cast in his role, I will never get to see it as it was intended. I'm sure this is the case with thousands of others who were not turned on to the show when MC was gracing the stage. It seems a crime to me to disappoint that many people by "creatively" casting the movie. I keep recalling what a disaster Madonna was in "Evita" and how good the "Cats" movie is and how good even the concwert production of "Les Miserables" is. ALW, tank your ego and give this project to the man who will make it "GREAT".

Comments: Well, finally, Phantom is going to be a movie. I'm really excited. It's such a beautiful story, with wonderfully moving music. I'm glad it's going to be preserved forever on film. And, also, the general, non-theater going public will have a chance to see what millions of people have fallen in love with over the last two (almost) decades. My concern is casting. Whoever plays Erik, should be someone with the Voice of an Angel, who can move people to tears. He should be able to disappear into the role, so that we see the Phantom, not Mr. Actor. Of course I think Michael Crawford should play Erik; he made the role, he is known for the role. Even non-theater goers know Mr. Crawford's name in association with The Phantom. As far as age, in the novel, the Phantom is in his 50's. Mr. Crawford can easily pass for a man in his 50's. Also, he will be in heavy makeup and mask for the whole show. I really do not see how his age can be a factor. And, we all know that he has the voice and acting ability for the part. If a box office name is a concern, why not cast big names as Christine and Raoul? That would bring in many people and help expose this musical to a whole new generation. Please consider Michael Crawford for the role of The Phantom of the Opera. It would truly be a winning situation for all concerned. Thank you for your time and consideration. Nora Fitzgerald

Comments: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MICHAEL CRAWFORD, AND I THINK THAT IT WOULD NOT BE THE PHANTOM WITHOUT MICHAEL CRAWFORD!!!!! HE MUST STAY AS THE PHANTOM. YOU CANNOT HAVE A "PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" WITHOUT MICHAEL CRAWFORD CAST AS THE PHANTOM. AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE MUSIC, AS IT IS ENCHANTING AND CAPTURES EVEN PEOPLE WHO WOULD NEVER THINK TO LISTEN TO IT UNTIL THEY HEARD IT. LOVE, A HUGE FAN, NURA ADLPARVAR

Comments: ONE MORE THING! I believe that the film makers SHOULD NOT realease the film until the stage production closes because I do not want PHANTOM OF THE OPERA'S run to be affected. I would also like to apologize for a few of my spellig mishaps in my first entry.

Comments: I've been a long time fan of Michael Crawford. Sure there are other actors who have played the Phantom and out of the 3 I've seen they did their performances with 100% perfection. BUT no one would ever give that incredible being and humanity that Michael Crawford gave when he did the role of the Phantom. When I listen to his voice on my LONDON CAST RECORDING I can feel his voice and emotions go through every fiber of my being. I hope this campaign becomes successful with their work to help WB realize what a fatal mistake they would make if they didn't cast Michael Crawford in the PHANTOM of the OPERA film. Also I will be seeing PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for my 4th time this coming March and cannot wait as usual. My best wishes to this campaign.

Comments: I'm adding my name in the hope that the Hollywood bigwigs don't ruin this movie by putting anyone other than the rightful Phantom, MICHAEL CRAWFORD, in the role. He is the one and only Phantom for me. I've seen it a few times on Broadway since I saw it with him in the lead, and I must say, no other Phantom even compared to him. Please Mr. Schumacher come to your senses and cast Michael.

Comments: There can be no phantom without Michael Crawford. He is the only man for the role. Age, in this case, doesn't matter. While Antonio Banderas has a decent voice, he's no Phantom. Only Michael Crawford's voice can send shivers down my spine when I hear him sing 'The Music of the Night' and 'Past the Point of No Return'.

I do agree that a film of the stage presentation is the best way to go... or on a soundstage if it is done with the same integrity as the stage version.

Still... Michael Crawford is the only Phantom.

Comments: Excuse me, has anyone heard Antonio sing? He doesn't have the vocal (or emotional) depth to play the part of the Phantom. (He made up stuff with Che in Evita and that was not a huge success regardless of him being in it.) Michael Crawford is synonymous with the Phantom of the Opera. I have heard many recordings of 'Phantom wannabees' but I'm afraid there's only one Michael Crawford just as there's only one Phantom. It will be a bitter disappointment if the true Phantom is denied.

Comments: I don't need to see a big name actor like Antonio Banderas (who isnt' even all THAT big a name IMHO) play this character. That's not what will sell me a ticket at the box office. I need to see the Phantom played with the same beauty and passion he has been given on Broadway. Michael Crawford is the only actor to play this part. If one more name helps to persuade them to cast this film correctly, then count me in.

Comments: You are completely correct. I am afraid I have never seen the great man perform live, but I have listened to his songs and there is no way they can cast anyone who cannot bring such depth of character even to the studio recording. I say they should not alter the stage show, because THE STAGE SHOW IS WHAT PEOPLE WANNA SEE! Micheal Crawford is the only man who has ever come so close to being the Phantom.

Comments: Michael Crawford is the one and only Phantom. And i don't think that "Lord Lloyd Webber" has the right to say that Michael Crawford can't be the Phantom...even though it is his play. But if he made so much money with Michael doing the role of the phantom before, you would think he would jump at the chance to get him to be the phantom of the opera again!!!!!!! All i am trying to say is that if you want people to come see the show and you want the seats to be sold-out CAST MICHAEL CRAWFORD AS THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!!!!

Comments: Michael Crawford IS the Phantom. I have never seen him in POTO but I have listened to the CD many, many times. While I was in New York recently, I decided to go see the matinee of the show. I was really disappointed. It was not that the performers weren't very good; it was just that the Phantom wasn't Michael. The difference is tangible. Michael gave the Phantom everything that made him the character who enthralled so many people. Michael's voice is even better now than it was when he was doing POTO. He is definitely NOT too old to play the part. Just watching his hand movements and the way he walks in that fantastic manner as part of the role make him the absolute perfect actor to do the Phantom on the screen. If the studio and the people who make the final decisions want to win Golden Globes and Oscars, do the right thing---Choose Michael Crawford for the PHANTOM.

Comments: I've been in support of this cause since RUC announced intentions of casting John Travolta as the Phantom. Some roles can be feasibly filled by Hollywood names. This one cannot (ESPECIALLY BY ANTONIO BANDERAS!!! BLEEEEH!!!). Forget about Dance of the Vampires bombing. The people want Crawford.

Comments: It's unthinkable anyone else playing the Phantom in the movie. Michael Crawford IS THE PHANTOM, no one else. He has such a wonderful voice and sings with so much feeling, I still get goosebumps with songs such as Music of the Night, Point of No Return, and the title song. What has age got to do with it? Surely ability must count for something! The 'chandelier' belongs to him and him alone; please give him the role he was born to play. I am sure box office results will show it was the right decision! I would be really pleased to see the movie produced because I have Spina Bifida and can't get to as many of the performances as I would like to because I am in a wheelchair, so the movie would be most appreciated, and I will definitly be one of the first at the movie theater and one of the first to purchase the movie on video or on DVD. Comments: Although I am not a big fan of the show, in fact I kind of hated it, I cannot see anyone other than Michael playing the lead. I found the show quite boring. There were only 2 scenes I was impressed with; the boat scene and the 2nd act opening. Now I have heard rumors that Antonio Banderas is being considered. I have heard him sing a couple of the songs, but he cannot come close to Michael. I hope the powers that be cast Michael. Who knows maybe I will give the show another try.

Comments: I APPRECIATE THAT ANTONIO BANDERAS IS (POSSIBLY) A BIGGER BOX OFFICE DRAW THAN MICHAEL CRAWFORD, (OR IS HE?) AND THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT HE IS ABLE TO DO JUSTICE TO BARON LLOYD WEBBER'S MUSIC.

WHAT I HAVE GRAVE DOUBTS ABOUT IS WHETHER HIS DICTION IS SUFFICIENTLY CLEAR TO DO JUSTICE TO CHARLES HART'S AND RICHARD STILGOE'S LYRICS.

LET'S NOT FORGET THAT THIS SHOW HAS WORDS AND MUSIC, NOT JUST MUSIC.

Comments: Yeah I have seen this man perform and it was amazing. The only way you are going to get a great "Phantom Movie", is if you have the original performing and doing his thing. So think about casting an experienced phantom. Thankx

Comments: I would like to see & hear everything as close as possible to the original stage production..WHY MESS WITH AWARD WINNING PERFECTION?? I realize that there would have to be some cast changes..BUT NOT ERIK'S ROLE..Michael Crawford is alive & well & still has THAT MAGNIFICENT VOICE!!..If Michael is not cast as the POTO & most of the original music, etc. is changed it just wouldn't be the same POTO that most of us love..I don't think I would be interested in seeing the movie if too many changes are made..Love, Gloria Meyers

Comments: It's horrible that they are trying to replace the best person for the role. By choosing someone else I will refuse to watch it and so will others. We are fans of the "Phantom" because of the music and the man who brought the music to life.

Comments: It looks to me like the Phamtom movie project is going to be a bust. It should be filmed as the stage production, not filmed like every other Phantom movie ever made. It's the stage production and the people in it that made the Phantom what it is today. Michael Crawford is the Phantom. Age? Please! According to the story line, the Phantom is many years older than Christine. As much as I like Antoino Banderas, he could never be the Phantom; he can't sing, he has a Spanish accent. Whether he wants to do it or not isn't the issue. I saw Evita; I'm sorry but he can't sing. This is a play that's not only stunningly beautiful to look at, but is breath-taking to listen to, the chandelier rising up out of the dark, the opening chords of the music, that sets the tone for the entire play. How can you take something so perfect and even think of turning it into a "movie"? The stage production is what should be filmed. Michael Crawford should be the Phantom. The chorus group that came to Houston, the last time the Phantom was here, should be used; they are far better than the original chorus, or any other chorus group I've seen. They sang together, not competing with each other. I'm referring to the song Masquerade. Maybe someone should care what the fans think. Who's going to go see the movie if not the fans?

I went to see Phantom of the Opera today with a friend at the Wharton Center in East Lansing, MI. All I could think of was Michael Crawford's ability to outshine anyone else. He is the only one that can play the Phantom!!!

Comments: There IS NO Phantom movie without Michael Crawford. The ONLY thing that can make Erik's part believable is for the actor cast to have a voice that viewers think might be able to entrance, control, and seduce people. Michael Crawford is the ONLY actor whose voice is worthy of this movie. The audience draw will be LOST without him. Think of the profits!!

Comments: I watched and listened to the video of Andrew Lloyd Weber's collections yesterday and there is no doubt in my mind that Michael Crawford is the best, most well defined, and emotional actor for this job. The other male in the video (Steve Harley) did not portray any of the feelings that Michael does on stage or on the OLC tapes. Then the next video segment was Michael singing another version of Music of the Night. Even though the lyrics were different I still had shivers run up and down my spine. This is when I truly knew that Michael, no matter how old, should sing the Phantom in the movie.

Comments: Michael Crawford is definitely the actor who should play the Phantom. He did such a wonderful job in the play version. He is the Phantom.

I don't know why the age question comes up. The Phantom was an older man. He is not the young romantic suitor.

I just saw Dance of the Vampires on Broadway. Although the play itself was panned, Michael's singing was strong and beautiful.

I would only see the movie if Michael Crawford plays the Phantom.

Barbara McKenzie

Comments: Greetings!

I am a big fan of the musical Phantom of the Opera. I loved the book, LOVE the musical and love Michael Crawford. I can't imagine seeing the role of the Phantom being played by anyone else. That's blasphemy. I really and truly hope that Michael will play the role, because the spirit of the character will be lost if played by anyone else.

Comments: Hello; I am a long time supporter of Michael Crawford and have seen his dynamic portrayal of the Phantom in New York. I have never seen such energy and performance of a character before. It was heart wrenching and made you cry and care for Erik. There has never been nor will there ever be a performer who can give such a riveting performance as Michael Crawford did. I'm asking that you please give it very serious consideration and do this movie right, with Michael, as Erik, and you can cast whomever you want for the other characters. Hugh Jackman would be the perfect person for Raoul, and Nicole Kidman or Catherine Zeta Jones, for Madame Giry or Meg, or even Christine. Without Michael doing the role he created, and his voice, which the whole world knows and loves, I fear this movie will be a disaster beyond belief. Sincerely, Joyce Cebular

Comments: I believe there truly is a time and place for everything. Those of us who want to see Michael Crawford reprise his role as Phantom have waited for this time. Michael presently is available and is "hungry" and looking for new projects. Sir Andrew, don't let this opportunity pass to cast Michael in your movie version of your wonderful play. I just saw Michael five times during December and January in "Dance of the Vampires," and it is just by the grace of God and some higher plan of His that the show was not a long-running one--it should have been. Michael's voice and stage presence are still at their peak; indeed, they will no doubt be at their peak for several years to come. But, we are getting tired of waiting. Certainly if you make the movie without him, it will not succeed, and your chance will be lost to claim your place in history as not only the composer of the wonderful "Phantom of the Opera" but as a man who could rise above some personal considerations and perhaps even personal hurts to preserve your greatest work with the greatest actor ever to perform the role. What can we say or do that will make you take our pleas to heart? The money will come rolling in, if that's a consideration, if you cast Michael in this role. Many of us will see the film many times; many will buy videos and DVD's. What else can we offer? Oh, we can offer our respect to you for finally doing the right thing about casting Michael in the role which he was promised so many years ago.

Comments: YES PLEASE :D PLEASE make ALW's "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" into a movie :D, AAAAND with Mr. Michael Crawford cast as ERIK --- NOW. PLEASE. "Too old" indeed! NO WAY. I am sure that you would not take very kindly to somebody saying to you, "You're too old to write/direct/cast movies so we don't want you," so DON'T say that Michael is. Michael is NOT too old. Heck, he is YOUNGER AND FITTER than I am, and I am 39/40. He has done absolutely everything, and he is STILL going strong --- at 61. Imagine the size of Michael's resume; several telephone books. Not big enough for yuz????!!!! I just had someone here who I asked, "How 'old' do you reckon Michael is?" The person replied "46?". So there ya go :D You want a man in his 40's to play ERIK? Well, Michael looks like he IS in his 40's :D His VERY EARLY 40's. And I'll be CHRISTINE :D I look 1/2 my age {I look around 17 to 20 or so}. The movie, WITH Mr. Crawford as ERIK should have been made 17 years ago!!!! Michael KNOWS, and Michael IS the man ERIK. Come on. We KNOW that you want the hit show "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" to be a hit movie. So do we, which is why we want Michael :D Please make "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA", and WITH Mr. Michael Crawford. NOW. YOU TRY OUR PATIENCE. WE HAVE MADE OUR CHOICE {years ago}, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO STICK TO OUR CHOICE. We are NOT going to change our minds. Now that DOTV is over, Michael is free, so come on. Grab that man now to play ERIK and make "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" movie. Do NOT keep us waiting one second longer. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Take Care, Erikly Yours, Jaime D. Crawford, The Phantom's Phriend :)
