Comments: I think Michael should be in the Phantom of the Opera movie because he is the original Phantom, and he is the best performer who has played the Phantom on stage. He has such a wonderful voice and he is so emotional as the Phantom! It would make me so very happy to see Michael in his role as the Phantom again!

Comments: I believe Mihael Craford should play the "Phantom" in the movie. His age should have no bearing on this decision as the character is an older man and as far as I am concerned he is the only choice. I really don't think I would go to see it otherwise.

Comments: Michael created Phantom, his heart and his soul are his. Phantom is ageless, as is love. No one understands this role or can sing it better than Michael Crawford. He is The Music of the Night.

Comments: PLEASE NOTE: MICHAEL CRAWFORD WAS BORN TO PLAY THE PHANTOM. I SAW HIM 4 TIMES AS PHANTOM AND IT IS TRULY UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANYONE ELSE TO BE CAST. ANDREW USE YOUR COMMON SENSE AND DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT ANYONE ELSE. I WILL BOYCOTT THE FILM IF MICHAEL IS NOT CAST. HE IS THE PERFECT AGE. HE HAS THE PERFECT VOICE AND HE IS THE PERFECT PHANTOM. THE THOUGHT OF ANTONIO BANDERAS PLAYING PHANTOM IS RIDICULOUS. THE MAN CAN BARELY BE UNDERSTOOD WHEN HE SINGS AND SPEAKS. A SPANISH PHANTOM??? I DON'T THINK SO. IF U WANT A HIT FILM, MICHAEL CRAWFORD IS YOUR MAN. BY THE WAY,WHILE ON THE SUBJECT OF CASTING, SARAH BRIGHTMAN IS STILL GORGEOUS AND IS TRULY CHRISTINE. BE SMART. DON'T SCREW UP SOMETING THAT PHANTOM FANS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR: A GREAT FILM.

Comments: Mr. Crawford gave an award winning performance in the stage show POTO. Many could not get to Broadway or LA so have never been priveleged to see him perform in this role. Why not pick a known winner for the role rather than risk someone new? And what does age have to do with it? I thought we, long ago, stopped age discrimination in our society!! I have no doubt that Mr. Crawford could give as great a performance for the movie camera as he did on stage. Please, don't make a mistake and ruin the role of the Phantom by using someone else.

Comments: Hello again

If there are other people from Belgium visiting this site you may always contact me at my email adress.

And something else on the subject of Antonio Banderas as Phantom. When I watch the video of the 50th birthday party for Lloyd Webber at the Albert Hall in London and I come to the part where Antonio sings (what some people who are deaf call singing) "Phantom," I fast forward the tape and cry out, "Please Lord take this cup away from me for I don't want to taste this poison." This line should sound familiar for Lloyd Webber fans.

Comments: I want to say only this in favour for Michael as Phantom. I've seen several versions of the phantom and the only one that still gives me the most thrills is the original London Cast cd. I was too young to see Michael live on stage as Phantom. All the other phantoms were just reaching Michael's ankles. But a few years ago I was attending a Michael concert in London and there he sang Music of the Night and the title song from Phantom without make-up and it gave me a thrill. And another point: think of Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady the film version. He was old for the part but he was and still is the best Prof. Higgins ever. And on the economic point: If the film version of Phantom is with Michael I'm going to watch it a lot of times with every friend separately so I can go a lot of times. But if it is someone else in the part, and no matter who, I'll tell everyone not to go as a boycot. I even will be prepared to go and protest in front of the theatres where the film is playing. PLEASE NOT A SECOND JULIE ANDREWS STORY.

Comments: Lord Lloyd Webber, Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical and probably always will be. Despite (or perhaps because of) having seen it on stage in both Chicago and London, I am thrilled that the prospect of a movie version has been rejuvenated. However, I must point this out to you: if you are planning on casting Sarah Brightman and her beautiful voice as Christine, then it wouldn't be fair not to cast Michael Crawford as the Phantom! Sarah has aged the same number of years as Michael, so that reasoning simply doesn't hold water. And if Steve Barton were still alive, I would want him to play Raoul as well. You need this movie to do justice to this wonderful show, and Michael playing the Phantom will do this far better than Antonio Banderas would. Antonio is a wonderful actor and talented singer, but he's too pretty to play an ugly character, and his Spanish accent, sexy though it may be, would ruin the effect of the music. If you want an actor with sex appeal in the movie, then do that for the role of Raoul, but by all that's sane and logical, keep Michael Crawford as the Phantom!

Comments: The original Phantom of the Opera is 40-50 years old at least by the time he sees and falls in love with Christine. The play covers maybe the last six months of his life.

There is no reason at all to cast someone young as the Phantom.. and there is every reason to cast Michael Crawford.

Comments: Michael Crawford IS the Phantom no doubt. His voice is unprecedented and more mature and refined than any of the rivals Sir Lloyd-Webber has proposed. The role of Erik needs such a refined voice to represent the years of torture and desparation endured by the character to never be able to realise his stage potential due to his hideous deformity. Age knows no boundaries, looks dont count when they are masked by makeup in a role. Michael IS the phantom hands down. There is no other.

Comments: I've seen Phantom in Atlanta, but it wasn't with Micheal Crawford. It was wonderful, but once I heard Micheal on the CD, I knew I missed something by not seeing Phantom with him in the role. I don't want an action movie star like Antonio Bandares playing the Phantom, I want MC to play the part!!!!

Comments: Michael Crawford is a must. I recently saw him on Broadway and I was amazed at how his voice has not lost its luster. He is singing superbly. He is a MUST PHANTOM for the movie. You want a winner like Chicago appears to be, you have to put Michael Crawford in the title role. I said to myself after recently seeing him on stage, "I'd love to see Michael in concert," and now is a chance for another dream to come true. What a hit the movie would be. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Comments: Michael Inspired Me Comments: I have been hoping from the time I got the original cast album and then saw the production the one and only time it was in Tulsa, OK and twice here in Houston, TX that it would be made into a movie. Especially got my heart up for a while on the Carson show--then ZAP nothing more. If they would star Michael and Sarah and then film a lot of it in the Paris Opera house, would be great. But most of all give it the "Chicago" treatment and don't mess with the original story. Cause Movie Musicals are BACK!

Comments: I do not think any other actor is fit to play the movie role of The Phantom. Michael Crawford brings such passion and emotion to this piece that many others would lack. Including Mr. Banderas.

No offense intended, but I believe Mr. Crawford's vocal abilities far surpass those of Mr. Banderas. We need someone who is familiar with The Phantom, knows it, loves it. This leaves only one choice for the role, and that should be rightfully Michael Crawford.

Comments: I have played my OLC CD's until one broke, I have seen POTO many times with many different Phantoms. Michael Crawford still makes me cry more tears and makes my heart flutter more than any of the others, and now the only way for that to happen is while listening to the CD's. He is the only Phantom my 83 year old grandma will listen too. I think Lord Andrew Lord Weber will break her heart (and mine too) if he casts anyone else. May this campaign bring RESULTS to the loyal PHANS.

Comments: The role of the Phantom belongs to Michael Crawford. He's the one who brought the part to life and should be given the role in the movie production. I mean, honestly, too old? He is not too old. His voice is just as wonderful as it was back then. If anyone else should be appointed to the movie role I personaly believe that they should not make a movie. It is the phans that bring in the money and if Michael Crawford is cast in the movie then the producers can count on bringing in more money than they would if it was John Travolta or Antonio Banderas who was cast as the Phantom. Crawford's played our beloved Erik for years and the movie would only be right if the part was assigned to him. It just wouldn't be right if the part was given to some pathetic wannabe. He created the role and should be casted in the movie so his phans can relive his performence again and again. Michael Crawford is the one and only phantom. It's his part and should remain that way. Too old my @$$. Cast him in the movie and just wait and see how it does.

Comments: Some people are worried that Crawford is too old and will have problems caused by his hip replacement. Well I'm sorry but what does the Phantom have to do in the play that would hurt his hip, unless rowing a boat down a misty waterway would be just to much (ya right). I mean it's not like we are trying to make the Phantom do big dance moves like in Cats. Plus with all the make up on him who will even be able tell how old he is. I say if his voice can still cut it then he is THE Phantom!

Last note: what is with all this Antonio Banderas crap. I mean yes he was good in Evita, but that whole story is set in Spain which is where Banderas is from (or his relatives). Just imagine "Music of the Night" or "The Point of No Return" being sung with an Spanish accent. (chill chill) (and not in a good way!)
