Comments: I don't understand the logic Andrew Lloyd Webber and the execs at Warner Bros are supposedly acting on!!!!! Using a Hollywood "Star" to play Phantom will not increase profits. If people don't like musicals, they will not go and see this whether he, or John Travolta, or whoever they are thinking of is cast! Second, the people who WILL see the Phantom Movie are those who have been longtime fans of Phantom, the Webber production, and musical theatre in general. And it has been made obvious that most are not happy about trading true talent and quality (Michael Crawford) for a money ploy that will ultimately fail. I think it is insulting that Crawford, who was offered the role first, is now out of the running. And I admire his attitude and graciousness through this mess. He's too old some say? Ridiculous! I don't think there has been an actor so linked to a role for decades, and for good reason. He is an incredible singer and actor. I am not going to see this movie if he is not cast, and from what I have heard from my friends, neither will they.

Comments: Antonio Banderas is in a no win situation. If he gets the role of the Phantom in the movie version of Phantom of the Opera he will be perceived as someone who underhandedly stole the role from the original and highly awarded actor - who, by the way, was promised the role in 1991 and 1996 - without earning it fair and square. This perception is already happening. If the script is rewritten for him and far removed from the original concept he will be perceived as lacking the talent and ability to do the job correctly. This perception too, is already developing. If the script is left as is, he will be compared to all the others who have played the role on stage. Nothing personal, but he won't like the reviews. When the movie opens and bombs - which it will because word of mouth is already causing a backlash not only against "tentative" casting decisions for this project, but also against recent projects in which he has been involved. He will bear a great deal of the blame for pushing his personal ambition down peoples throats and not accepting his limitations. I'd love to dunk a basketball like the Shaq but I would't want the rim and net lowered to accommodate my lack of ability.

Comments: I am assumeing this is the place I send my plea to cast Michael Crawford in the Phantom movie! Well, if it is, I must say that I simply can't imagine ANYone else, esPEcially Antonio Banderas, playing the part. When I hear and see Michael perform the beautiful songs from that amazing musical, it sends chills through me. It's more moving than almost anything I can think of. Reconsider and cast Michael Crawford! VERY sincerely, Donna Taylor

Comments: Dearest Michael, It does seem to be an impossible dream that we will be allowed to see you as the Phantom on the big screen. My question is, "WHY"? I have enjoyed your talent for many years; recordings, FX in Vegas, concerts.........and your tv specials. Anything I hear about, I am eager to see you perform. Please count me in to support the effort to get you where you belong.....on the big screen as the Phantom.

Comments: I saw the Phantom of the oprera for the first time when I was 12.I am now 15 and I love it even more. I have not had the opportunity to see Michael Crawford as the phantom but I have heard him in the recording of the Phantom and I think it would be the most awe inspiring expierience to watch him play in it, even over the television. He is the only one who can play the part to it's full capacity. Anyone else is just another actor. Whenever I ask someone if they have seen the Phantom, my next question is" With Michael Crawford?" If they haven't they always say" but wouldn't that have been wonderfull! ". I can't stress enough how important it is that Mr. Crawford be the one to play the Phantom. He is such an awesome actor and person, he just personifies the role of the Phantom. He deserves the role.

Comments: I think it would be great and awesome to have Michael play the movie role, because he has the voice and talent. I'm not saying Antonio Banderas is a bad singer or anything, he's a great singer, it's just that nobody can top Michael Crawford. He's got the powerful voice and the hand movements, I wish I could sing as good as he does, but I can't sing at all, so.... Anything that Michael is going for when it comes to Phantom, he should get it!!!! We Love you Michael and Good Luck!!

Comments: We all know that the mystery and beauty of Phantom will be destroyed by the movie makers. So, how about Jennifer Lopez for Christine or better still, Anne and Ellen as the lovers. Opening with an elephant stampede and closing with the Phantom made handsome by a kiss. Then the Phantom and Christine will blast off the Eiffel Tower in a rocket to create a sequel of The Son of the Phantom. Naturally, the pair will be chased through the mist by Bruce Willis in a time machine. Get real movie land, this will wind up on DVD coming next summer another loser. Antonio doesn't have the voice or the style. Have you seen Evita? Enough said!

Comments: I absolutely do not understand. Isn't anyone (ALW or WB) true to their craft anymore??? No one but Michael Crawford can be the Phantom. I think it will be a shame that the movie I have wished for will be a tremendous flop. Antonio is certainly nice looking, Zorro was his role!!! But Michael - words cannot express his presence, and not just as the Phantom. Anyone who has seen the man perform knows what I mean. I have seen him several times in concert and fall in love with him all over again each time. I can't believe that ALW or anyone from WB isn't affected by Michael's charisma on stage. The movie would be a smash because of Michael - his sensual portrayal of the Phantom would outdo anything Antonio could ever hope to achieve. Sweet, charming, unassuming Michael Crawford is the sexiest man alive once you've seen and heard him perform!!!

Comments: I went to see Michael at the NEC Birmingham in England and it was the most incredible thing I have ever seen on stage. His voice is amazing. I was in tears through most of the songs as there was always something I could relate to in them and he was so emotional in his presentation of them. He didn't hold anything back. Music of the night was fantastic. It actually felt like he was singing just to me and the music sort of drew me in. I would love to see him play the Phantom and if they give the part to Antonio Banderas I won't go see the film. If they do it's cheating people like me, who didn't get to see Michael as the Phantom, out of seeing Phantom how it should be done. Wow!

Comments: And another thing I forgot to mention, Antonio does not have the physical appearance decribed in the book and sung. He is just too beefy. Mr. Michael Crawford has the right.... Body..... For the job. I have read "The Phantom of the Opera" and "The Phantom of Manahattan" and Mr. Crawford could play those parts with his eyes closed. I mean he dosen't even a script, he has already sung it over and over again.....

Comments: Ever one can agree with me on this one... Mr. Michael Crawford can play the part with such skill and caring on how people preceve the Phantom as. The Phantom isn't some hiddious monster, Mr. Crawford already proved that part. Antonio, I admit, Is a great ACTION movie star, but his singing, well, would make the Real Phantom turn over in his grave in disgust. He can not sing worth a lick and he is lousy at romance. Mr. Michael Crawford is incredible on making The Phantom come alive with such passion. Everytime I hear him sing on "The Phantom of the Opera" CD's, he sends chills down my spine as never before. No other charecter has frightened me as he does, but it's so mystical and curosity gets the better of me when I try to do some research on this matter. Antonio would do alot better as Carllota... oops I mean Joseph Buquet. Sorry about that... ;-) Clearly the better and profitable choice would be Mr. Michael Crawford.

Comments: My name's Andrea Cecily Vera, I'm 13 and I live in Florida, United States. I've known of Micheal Crawford for about a year and a half. I also know that there are a lot of children/young adults who practically love his voice but have never seen him in the POTO. I, myself, am one of those people. A lot of times the youth of society get overlooked due to their young age.In certain cases the youth can draw attention to a problem. The casting of the movie version of POTO is one of those cases.I propose that the youth of today get together and try to draw attention to the fact that Micheal Crawford IS the Phantom. The "grown-ups" at Really Useful and Warner Bros. have neglected to consider a major possibility: it is the youth of today who will be the adults of tommorow. That basically means that if they ( the movie-making big shots) ignore the fact that millions of people, including the adults of the future, are clamoring for the casting of M.C. their sales could be efected in the long run. When a company has the reputation of going against popular demand, less adults will buy from them. Companies are constantly building up their reputation becuase with each passing year, a new breed of people are let loose into the "adult world". These people start preparing for this moment years before when they pick a favorite t.v. channel, favorite cloths, favorite movie producers etc. It's time to let the big shots know that the kids of today AND buyers of the future are begging and pleading to see Micheal Crawford as the phantom. Micheal Crawford is supposed to be this exceptional actor who portrays the phantom perfectly. Why should only the adults have been given the once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity to see him act? Casting him in the movie-version will only capture the true essence of the phantom for those not lucky enough to see him live. If you are 25 or younger and wish to help me with this, please contact me at en_la_playa@yahoo.com Even if you are older then 25 but still wish to help, please contact me. We need all the support we can get. your humble servant, Andrea Cecily Vera

Comments: Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom is an unusally demandingly role. Not only must the performer be an outstanding vocalist but also an incredible dramatic actor as well. The only performer to even come close to meeting its standards and demands for such a motion picture must have had extensive study and stage experience in this role. It is completely ridicous to even consider casting a "Hollywood Name" in this sacred role. How could they come close to possibly understanding the character of Erik, let alone live up to its vocal demands. Crawford is the man. He has portrayed that demanding role in New York, London, and Los Angeles. Not only is he a gifted vocalist with the ideal seductive voice for the role, but he is the ultimate actor for for the role. Anything less would a disaster.

My Fieancee is getting sick of me talking about it over and over again that he finally said he would read the book to see what all the fuss was about. I have never been to the show's but my 2cd's are all that I need for my imagination. Michael Crawford plays the part so good it sends chills down you spine every time you listen to him. He really makes it feel that the Phantom is still alive. He plays the part with such feeling it's uncanny. He seems to BE The Phantom. He also has the accent to match with the part. If he was to be The Phantom in the movie I coulden't stop myself from buying copy after copy after copy of this movie. I mean come on... the casy won the Tony award. Comments: Having seen Michael crawford on TV in his hit series 'Some Mothers do have 'em", his role as P.T.Barnum and the show in Las Vegas, and of course his video clips as "The Phantom", what other actor has put his name on this part? Michael crawford has the 'presence'and the voice. He proved that he is a big enough 'name' when he played the 'Phantom' in New York on stage, so he has established his credentials to play the screen role.It seems as if he was born to play this part. If this project is ever undertaken, then Michael Crawford is the man to be the "Phantom of the Opera" My wife and I send our best wishes and regards to Mr Crawford and our thanks for the pleasure he has given us as an actor and singer. Comments: It appears to me that most, if not all of you have been fortunate enough to have seen Michael Crawford as The Phantom. Sadly, I have not. I saw the Toronto production, with three different Phantoms. While I thought one of them was fabulous, none had a voice which could be compared to MC. I was thrilled a number of years ago to hear Michael Crawford in an interview discuss making the movie, and thought, finally, I would be able to see his portrayal, as well as hear it on CD. I might add, that many of your raves have made me all the more desperate to see him make the movie. Of course, it appears I may never get to see the one and only Phantom, Michael Crawford, be it only on film. ALW just has come to his senses and change his mind. PLEASE!

Comments: First I would like to mention that I am a younger fan of The Phantom of the Opera (12 years old), then I would like to say that I have never had the privilege to see Michael Crawford on stage, and I am dying to. I do have the OLC, though. I have recently seen video clips of both Michael Crawford and Antonio Banderas. Now, I had heard Michael Crawford sing before, but the feeling he puts into the songs he sings is overpowering! I was exhilerated at how wonderful he is when singing. I fell in love with his voice all over again! Then I saw Antonio. AAAHHHH!!!! I was in complete horror. One question: Out of all the people you could have chosen for this part--other than the greatest, Michael Crawford--WHY did you pick HIM? He doesn't have the correct voice to sing the part of Erik. I just hope you reconsider the part of the Phantom, and give it to the rightful person: Michael Crawford. Give myself, and all the other people born too late to see Michael Crawford on stage, the chance to see him in this role. The role IS the man, and the man IS Michael Crawford!!!!

Antonio Banderas is a good actor but he is not a singer. The only one who has the right to call himself the PHANTOM is Michael Crawford. Please do not let anyone else try to do this role.

Comments: I am very afraid that after all of your attempts that AB will still be cast as The Phantom. I do not understand how anyone could look at this as a wise move for such a big project. I am writing out of frustration. I don't know what else can be done to express your opinion (and mine as well). Please just keep doing the great job you have done so far. Let us know any updates that you find out. It is clear to anyone who cares about the inevitable film that there is only one person who can do the job right. Good luck! Lisa Viglione

Comments: Please, please, I just can't imagine anyone but Michael Crawford being the Phantom of the Opera, there is no one else...he Made the Phantom a person. We have seen Michael Crawford three times "live" here in Melbourne, Australia and he is spectacular. If anyone plays the role - imagine Anthony Banderas, he isn't the right age anyway, or even John Trivolta..how stupid is that for casting???? I for one won't be going to see the movie. In anycase, why make the movie, surely there is a video around like the "Cats" Video which was released last year..There has to be one with Michael in the role. After all I have a copy of him in "Barnum" on video. Even if they do decide not to use Michael Crawford as such, then surely they will use his voice...there is no other like it (well Gene Pitney, but they are different), even Gene Pitney is a Fan of Michael Crawfords. Comments: Hello, While there have been many talented people portraying the Phantom onstage in theatres all over the world, it is pretty unanimous that Crawford will always be the most amazing phantom of all, past and present! The musical itself is wonderful, the story is wonderful, etc. BUT! There will only be ONE screen version of Lloyd Webber's phantom. just one. That is why thousands of us fans are so upset, for those who don't understand. There are so many who have never had the honor of seeing Mr. Crawford perform phantom, and the fact that he is able, willing, and has been WAITING to do it makes this situation a travesty! The fact that the role may be given to someone who is not even a professional singer is, well, I can't find words. If the studio were to cast another musical star who has performed Phantom onstage I would not be so upset, but it is obvious they don't want to hire ANY previous or current phantom, otherwise they would have casted Crawford, hands down. Because he makes most box office sense, and is the most well-known of all Phantoms. Thanks, Sharon

Comments: While I hate to see hollywood touch ANY quality work and twist it into their own image, I suppose a movie of POTO is inevitable. To cast anyone but Michael Crawford as the phantom is a travesty; casting a big-name big-selling "star" (john travolta???yuck)would render this movie unwatchable for anybody touched by the magic of POTO. I can hardly believe Lord Weber would allow it!!! WB, please do not ruin this treasure just to make a buck. Do it with Michael Crawford or LEAVE IT ALONE.

Comments: I have written in before, but just let me say that this is a wonderful campaign. I didn't think there were that many other people in the world who love Micheal Crawford as much as I do, but I come here and find that there are thousands and thousands of other fans out their that have been moved by Micheal's absolutely stunning performance as the Phantom. Why can't the producers of this movie listen to us fans. Doesn't our opinion matter? Aren't we paying for their tickets in the first place. Has anyone seen the web site dedicated to making Antonio Banderas the Phantom. Of course not, because there isn't one! In fact, pretty much everybody I have heard or read comments from have greatly supported Micheal to play the role. Obviously if so many people are going through this much trouble to get Micheal the part, he would be the one that could make this movie a wonderful success. People would see it many, many times in the theater then buy it on video. To put it in words that movie producers understand, this means $, $, and more $. Money is really the only word they understand anyway, right? Don't they understand that these fans will settle for nothing less than Micheal? How can they be so blind? Sadly, I and probably most other people missed the opportunity to see his live performance of Phantom. All I have is my most precious cd of the original cast recording. That means this is the very last chance to see Micheal perform his legendary role one more time, in a movie that can be treasured forever. In the meantime I will do everything I can to help the campaign and make this dream come true.

AND SALW, COME TO THEIR SENSES AND CAST MICHAEL, AS THE PHANTOM,THERE IS ALSO ROOM IN THE MOVIE FOR ANTONIO ALSO, AS THE VISCOUNT, HIS TALENTS WOULD BE DISPLAYED ALSO. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO INTEGRITY OF THE WORD AND HANDSHAKE OF A PERSON, MICHAEL SIGNED THE CONTRACT TO DO THE MOVIE WHEN HE DID EFX, BUT IT SEEMS, THAT SALW,DOES NOT HAVE THE WORD INTERGITY IN HIS VOCABULARY ANYMORE,JUST GET RICH QUICK, WITH THE NEW STAR OF THE MONTH WHO DID CHE, IN ZORRO. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO HIS OTHER VENTURES,THEY WENT BY THE WAYSIDE. SO IN ORDER TO HAVE THE BEST --- GET MICHAEL TO DO HIS ROLE, AND YOU'LL NOT HAVE TO WORRY.

Comments: There is no other who could or should play the Phantom of the Opera. No matter who the big name would be he could not bring the depth and warmth to the role as well as Michael. I saw him in concert last year and was in tears as he sang the songs from the Phantom. Every time I listen to him sing the Music of the Night I close my eyes and see him in his mask. His voice is even more wonderful now than ever. I will NOT go see the movie unless Michael is in the role!!!!! That is a promise from me and I would hope anyone else who is a true Phantom fan. God bless Michael and whatever happens he must know he is loved by us all. I pray that Mr. Webber will exercise his right to have the best & that WILL be Michael. From One True Fan!

Comments: I have been a huge phan for several years and if Antonio Banderas was to play Phantom in the movie version, I would be disgusted. Banderas is one of the furthest possibilities for the role that I would ever think of. Where should I start. His voice is not impressive at all with a very annoying accent. His acting, from the movies I've seen is terrible. He is Spanish and doesn't look like Phantom should. He needs to stick to action movies or nothing at all and leave musicals and dramas for people with some talent. What could Webber be thinking, letting him take the role when Crawford has agreed to do it. Has he gone insane? That's like choosing a cat to play the part of Lassie. Anyway, Crawford is the one and only man to play the part and would attract a lot more people to the movie. If Banderas gets the role, POTO will be ruined forever.

We have been entertained by actors Mark Jacoby..Thomas James O'Leary..Davis Gaines..ect. None of which have stirred our emotions as Michael Crawford in his portrial of the Opera Ghost. As much as I patiently wait for this classic musical to be filmed and saved for the ages. I will not attend the movie version if Mr. Crawford is not cast as the Phantom. Any other actor cast as the Phantom would be like casting Mickey Mouse in the role of Moses in the Ten Commandments instead of Charlton Heston. I hope that Warners Bros. comes to their senses and realizes that Mr. Crawford is the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.

Comments: When casting is done for a movie, no one knows for sure whether someone will do the role justice because (duh) the movie hasn't been made yet! Millions have seen Michael Crawford onstage as the phantom, and they should know better than anyone how deserving he is. Even those who have not seen him as phantom, but support him should be listened to. I have not seen crawford as the phantom when he was onstage, but I am positive he would be the best choice. Here is why- I have seen him live in concert, and he does have awesome stage presence, and literally transformed into the phantom when he sang the songs from the musical- with no makeup, costume, backdrops, etc. I have seen several phantoms onstage, and all were good, but none held a candle to Crawford in terms of singing, and emotional depth. I have the Phantom soundtrack so I can definitely attest to that! He has done several films before, so no one can argue his performance wouldn't transform well to film. He is the only reason to watch Hello Dolly!- he's hilarious! I saw a video of him singing Music of the Night with Sarah Brightman, in the EXACT context of the musical (staging, costumes, etc). He was amazing. Finally, he was the orignal, he created the role with no one else to "borrow" from, like subsequent phantoms onstage. I hope Andrew Lloyd Webber and Warner Bros. are taking all these messages from people into serious consideration, because it sounds like a lot of us aren't going to be seeing the movie otherwise!
