Michael Crawfords voice is the one and only true Phantomvoice. It would be a big mistake to use any other!!!!!! |

Mr.Crawford is THE ONLY PHANTOM! Antonio is a great actor and is wonderfull in Evita, but he isn't Erik. It isn't a matter of being used to having Michael as Phantom, It's a matter of who does the best as the Phantom, and that has to be MICHAEL CRAWFORD! I just cannot picture listening to a Phantom with a Spanish accent, it's IMPOSSIBLE! Mr.Crawford just puts so much feeling into the role, he brings a tear to everyone's eye. The first time I heard Michael as Phantom, I felt the anguish of being judged by what you look like and not having your love returned. I just wanted to shout a Christine for breaking his heart. You would have to be crazy to put anyone else as the role of Phantom. |

I have not had the opportunity to see Michael Crawford as the phantom but I have heard him in the recording of the Phantom and I think it would be the most awe inspiring expierience to watch him play in it, even over the television. He is the only one who can play the part to it's full capacity.Anyone else is just another actor. Whenever I ask someone if they have seen the Phantom, my next question is" With Michael Crawford?" If they haven't they always say" but wouldn't that have been wonderfull! ". I can't stress enough how important it is that Mr. Crawford be the one to play the Phantom. He is such an awesome actor and person, he just personifies the role of the Phantom. He deserves the role. |

I do this occasionally just to renew my dedication to the objective of seeing Michael Crawford chosen to star in the movie version. As I listen, I am trying to imagine someone else's voice singing, snarling, hissing, whispering those lyrics. Particularly someone with a heavily Latin-accented voice. Doesn't wash! Not to put down Antonio Banderas...he's good in roles that he is suited for...but this isn't one of them. After listening to Michael Crawford's perfect diction, intense emotion, and masterful voice control, I once again am firmly convinced that the makers of any future Phantom film are fools if they give the role to anyone else. Michael Crawford IS the quintessential Phantom for all time! Let's get the movie made...and made RIGHT! The audience is anxiously waiting to hand the studio a blockbuster success!! |

I have heard many interpretations of the role of the Phantom but I can not seem to find one actor whose performance has the ability to move me to tears other than the one and only Michael Crawford. This man has a gift that only a precious few have been able to witness on stage; why wouldn't Andrew Lloyd Webber and Warner Brothers want to share that with the world? Mr. Crawford knows this character better than anyone and I would hate to see this rare opportunity to capture such superb and pure emotion for all time, go to waste for the sake of a popular and pretty face and name. With all due respect to Mr. Antonio Banderas, Michael Crawford is the embodiment of Erik and he has the ability to bring all that the Phantom is to the screen for all to see! The choice SHOULD be clear, if not painfully obvious. Is the pursuit of the almighty dollar so prevalent in our society today that we would risk ruining a classic for all the ages? Thank you for listening. |

On a personal aspect, I know that I would not pay to see anyone other than Michael Crawford as The Phantom. His name is synonymous with this role and to cast anyone else would be a dreadful mistake. Hollywood studios have talked about making this movie for several years now & it is time that it gets done, but they shouldn't waste the time or the money if they are going to cast anyone else. Michael Crawford is the only choice. And without him they have lost at least this ticket to see it. Keep up the good work! It is a very worthy cause! |

California Time: 1999-09-16 17:03:20 Comments: Michael Crawford will continue to sing the music from Phantom of the Opera in concerts throughout the world. His Original Cast tapes will continue to sell by the thousands. Negative comparisons of the voice of a movie Phantom will be inescapable if anyone else is cast in the film version. Michael Crawford is firmly associated with the role and his beautiful voice is too well known for audiences to accept a poor substitute. His years of movie experience, his command of the role, and an incredible voice that conveys all of the pain and suffering of the love-starved Phantom make him the perfect choice for the film. Anyone else will not be acceptable to the millions who have loved the stage musical. As for Banderas' fans, word would soon get out that his pretty face is not visible, he doesn't get the girl, and the dialogue is all sung, and they will ignore the movie. Result? An artistic and financial disaster!! |

But I do believe that there are some roles which are meant for those who have done it and superbly done marvelous results. Handyside Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: UK Time: 1999-09-15 22:00:02 Comments: Hi, I think what you are doing is really great and I totally agree that no-one else should play the Phantom, no matter what the executives at Warner Bros think. I have seen Phantom only three times, twice in the West End and once on Broadway (it would be more if I had unlimited money) but I was never lucky enough to experience the original and would dearly love Michael Crawford to play the Phantom in the film. I met Michael yesterday in London, he was signing copies of his autobigrophy and I got my copy signed, although the queue for him to sign books was massive, he still was friendly and polite, I asked him if he would ever play Phantom again and he said "maybe" and I said "you know you should in the new film" and he smiled and I said "you have to" and he just smiled and said "thank-you". I wish you luck in your campaign, if more American people get behind it too, I think once the executives in Hollywood realise how many people want Michael Crawford to play Phantom ( and will boycott it otherwise) then surely they have to take notice, after all we are the film goers and pay money and at the end of the day their wages. I totally agree with what you are doing and I although Antonio Banderas is my favourite actor and was fantastic in Evita, he can't play the role of Phantom with a Spanish accent. He was on TV here singing "Phantom of the Opera" with Sarah Brightman for Andrew Lloyd Webbers 50th birthday last year and it just wasn't right. Once again I wish you luck, if there's anything I can do over here in London let me know. Do you know how far the film has got? I mean in terms of casting and things. Hopefully your campaign can still make the difference. Best Regards, Ms Kerry Handyside |

Yes, he is a great singer, a great actor, and, yes, a favorite object of adoration for many women. However, this does not fit for the role. He should be cast, rather, as the role of Raoul. Raoul is, after all, the one who finds happiness in the end. The Phantom, though, has been played in the style of Michael Crawford, with a lot of success, for more than 12 years. If you ask any of the Phantoms who are performing at this moment in countless cities around the world, they'll admit that their Phantom is based on Michael Crawford's original version. So, does it not make sense to cast the original actor as Phantom? |

Michael, now, is truly the right age for the Phantom, and he has a great voice. Younger actors, such as Antonio Banderas shouldn't be chosen based, almost solely, on looks. This defies part of the basic moral of the story of the Phantom |

The English newspapers are all offering positive reviews to this book and to the man. Many are bringing up his name for the part of the Phantom in the movie The Phantom of the Opera. It is interesting how many theatre people remember that you once publicly stated Mr. Crawford would be starred in that movie. What happened? You still have access to the original phantom whose name would be instantly recognizable throughout the world if advertised as "The Original Phantom." Now I understand his autobiography is to be published in the US as well - by public demand!! What more do you want? The man is pure gold and would fill your coffers with it. Star the man who can immortalize this story while he still wants to do the role. |

However much I like Antonia Banderas, he is NOT THE PHANTOM. I will definitely boycott the film, if Michael doesn't play the part. Anyway roll on Friday lunchtime because, I am going to a book signing with the man himself, I AM SO EXCITED. Keep up the good work and hopefully we will get him reinstated into HIS ROLE. |

Hammill Website: Referred by: From a Friend From: Robinvale, Victoria, Australia Time: 1999-09-15 06:41:16 Comments: Congratulations on another fabulous ad in variety. Last year I was privelaged to see within a three week period two different men in seperate concerts sing "The Music of the Night". Both men had last don the mask of the phantom upon the theatrical stage in 1991 and their concert performances were vastly different. One was a lovely voice that sang a song that has now become a vague memory. The other performance was a musical experience that will forever remain clear in my mind and that of many millions around the world - for that man is known globally as "The Original Phantom of the Opera" - Mr Michael Crawford. The role of the phantom requires much more than a powerful voice, makeup, mask and cloak. The man must be able to grasp the empathy of an entire audinece from the emotional journey he goes through - by voice, appearance and emotion - the entrancing voice, the facial expressions, the hand jestures and stance of the man that reflects how he reacts to his circumstances. Mr Crawford's famed "The Music of the Night" in the concert setting is a theatrical experience in itself - the only thing missing was visual enhancers of makeup, costume, stage setting and Christine - otherwise his Phantom was completely there in person and had the sellout audiences within the palm of his hand and a tear in many an eye(not to mention two standing ovatitons at the end of each concert). Who better to portray this role in the movie musical then the man who created the character for millions around the world and gave one of the most acclaimed stage perfomances of all time. Within a blink of an eye he transforms into the Phantom and understands the inner soul of the character like no one else does. Michael Crawford *IS* the man behind the mask for the movie and his performance will create the most successful movie musical of all time. Go Crawford Go Phantom. |
| Name: Crysania Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Indiana Time: 1999-09-15 05:53:02 Comments: I think that's something Hollywood is forgetting about...everyone has to *become* a star. There was a time when Antonio Banderas's name was unknown in the US. But did that stop them from casting him in movies and catapaulting him to star status? No! If they produce a well-done movie, true to the original, with a good cast (in other words, Michael Crawford!) and advertise it as such (i.e. A blockbuster movie starring the original Phantom, who played the role in London, New York, and Los Angeles...or something along that line), then people will come running to see it. REGARDLESS of their age. I was 14 when I first got into Phantom, and if they had been talking of making it into a movie with someone other than Michael Crawford, I would have been horribly upset. I may have been a teenager, but I knew who was good and who wasn't! But it seems that Hollywood is quite dense...they think casting a known star, with little talent, will get people to go to the movie. I'm sorry, but that just isn't the way it works, folks! What they don't realize is that people want the original and the best. Just think what would have happened in other areas if they did something like this. For instance, none of the characters on Star Trek: The Next Generation were well-known stars. What if, when they decided to make the first movie, they decided to keep the same characters, but got "famous" actors to play the parts? Would the faithful fans have gone to see it? I certainly wouldn't have! Well, the same thing goes for Phantom...the original, the best, is Michael Crawford. That's all there is to it!! |

As one reviewer said, Michael Crawford's performance was one that "would be remembered for decades." The fact that thousands of people have rallied to be a part of this campaign proves that he was right. And if cast in this movie, Crawford's performance will be *seen* for many more decades to come. Millions of dollars have been spent in many places around the world to restore original art work--paintings, murals, frescos. The fortunes are not spent on copies or reproductions. They are spent on preserving an original work of art for the world to cherish forever. Michael Crawford's performance as the Phantom is a work of art that should be captured on film and preserved forever. |

If someone else plays HIS role it won't mean anything in the movie, it won't be as sad and heart tugging as if Michael played the role. I have never seen him preform, but just listining to him sing in The Phantom Of The Opera CD brings my eyes to tears. I hope that he recieves the role alot. I am a member of the MCIFA for several years now, and through all his kind works for the children, and the devotion of his fans I have come to see the man behind the mask, I know we all have: MICHAEL CRAWFORD IS THE ROLE!! thanks alot -Kelley age 13 |

He put his heart and soul into every performance to make it a memorable experience for every person in the theatre. His magnificent voice is full of emotion, and vocal range is unsurpassed. There is not a person dead or alive that can sing this part better than Michael. He alone can bring movie goers the thrill his theatre audiences have already experienced and will never forget. |

Patulski Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Time: 1999-09-06 17:05:24 Comments: I thought you might be interested in a teenagers point of view regarding the rumored Phantom of the Opera movie. Yes, thats right, a teenager. Eighteen to be exact. While I happen to have a very strong opinon on this matter, let me tell you what teenagers in general think of The Phantom of the Opera. Most have heard of The Phantom of the Opera, and some know its a musical on Broadway. Few have actually seen the musical, or have any desire to do so. They have a vague idea of the story line, but most think it is more of a horror story than a love story. The music? Theyve heard bits and pieces, but group it together with classical music, to be avoided if at all possible. If the musical was turned into a movie, teenagers would be interested solely on the advertisements and promos they saw, not on the merit of the musical. Whether you portray it as a horror movie or a love story, a few teenagers will see it, the majority of these being disappointed and will thus discourage their peers from seeing it. A movie with more singing than spoken dialogue will not appeal to teenagers at all. The cast will not make that much of a difference-throw in any movie star, from Antonio Bandaras to Leonardo DiCaprio and, while it might be an added incentive to see the movie, it wont prevent them from thinking the movie is stupid & boring. Basically, what Im saying is that your main audience will not be teenagers, regardless of how it is marketed or who plays the Phantom. With hundreds of movies to choose from filled with sex, violence, blood and gore, teenagers are just not going to make The Phantom of the Opera movie a success. Its the older, more mature crowd who will flock to the theaters, those who have or have not seen the musical, but appreciate good music and a beautiful yet tragic story. These people know Michael Crawford is the one and only Phantom and is the key ingredient to a successful film version. Disappoint these people by casting another actor in the role and you will have no audience for your movie. You have the chance of a lifetime here, to make movie history. It cannot be done without Michael Crawford though. You know he is a sure thing, everyone loved him in the musical. With another actor, while he may be talented, you just cant be sure he will make it work. Why mess with perfection? Michael Crawford is the best, you can be sure he will make the movie a success. So, as a teenager, I can tell you that we are not the ones that determine this movies success, so dont cast a movie star in the role of the Phantom to appeal to teenagers. Your main audience will be older ones, those who want to see Michael Crawford as the Phantom. The choice is clear. Sincerely, Steph Patulski |

I know of no other singer or actor, including A. Banderas, who could come anywhere close to Michael in playing/singing the part of the Phantom. When I discovered that (of all people) Mr. Banderas would attempt to play Phantom, when Mr. Crawford is still alive, performing, and still very good, I just about FLIPPED OUT. All of my friends that I've talked to think that it's INSANE to try casting it in such a way. It is. I am a dedicated 'Phantom..." fan, having fallen head-over-heels in love with the book and just about every dramatization. I have seen Michael Crawford in many other performances, and am moved by each of them. Furthermore, I have become obsessed with the story, and I did the math. When the Phantom (His name is Erik,) meets Christine, he should be in his 50's. Michael is not too old, Antonio is too young. Anyway, I would like to thank you again for putting up this site, and best wishes. And BEST of luck. Katrina Jenness |

The most important thing about the character is his ability to sing the songs exceptionally well- that means it has to be Mr. Crawford, or someone of comparable ability- who would that be? Certainly not Mr. Banderas. |

We bought the C.D. and have listened to it every day, pretty much since then! When my sister and I first heard the last song, we both burst into tears and couldn't stop! I think Michael Crawford is such a perfect phantom, he is the real phantom and all our friends who hear his voice think he is such a great singer! He is and my sister and I badly want him to star in the movie because we think he really feels the part and if I heard his voice through the walls of my dressing room, I would become enchanted like Christine did! The phantom in our play didn't even sound sad but Michael Crawford sounds soooo sad! I also think that Sarah Brightman and all the other stars from the original cast should star in the movie because to me they are the best and if Warner Bros. gives the part to Antonio Banderas I won't watch and none of my friends will either!!! Michael Crawford has to be the Phantom otherwise hardly anyone who sees the movie will understand how sad the story is!! My mom didn't when she saw the play because he wasn't the phantom, Michael Crawford. |

So, Mr. Lloyd-Webber, and Warner bros.,,do not even consider casting anyone else as the Phantom, there are more of us who want him than there are people who would pay to see someone else, you will lose us 6 and all our friends who have also seen the show, as fans, and you depend on US for your living, no one else,,so use your brain and cast Mr. Crawford as the Phantom, and you may just make more money than you would if you use someone like John Travolta, that would be a travesty to the role,. |

Most performers following him could not deliver the same superb quality. They may have been good, but he was outstanding! There's no doubt in my mind that he would do the same for the movie. (Oh, that's right...you did! But since it is all about money, let's do the math! One of our campaign members in Australia (yes, we range that far!) found this interesting quote in the Australia edition of Time magazine dated 23rd August 1999 from page 56 from an article on the West End: "The Society of London Theatre - commissioned Wyndham Report on the state of London theatre found that Phantom, the highest - grossing musical, had receipts of $2.8 billion, almost double the worldwide box- office takings of Titanic , the highest grossing film ever." Assuming an average of $50 per ticket, that is some 56 million people you are choosing to turn away by rufusing to cast the man who created and is synonymous with the title role! Do you really want to ignore this audience in favor of teenagers whose musical choices (and vocabulary) are as far away culturally from the Phantom as is possible? If the stage show audience each saw the movie only once (which is unlikely!) you are still talking about a take of some half a billion dollars! Plus video, DVD, soundtrack, and yes, even merchandising sales. However, if you miscast the title role, you can kiss most of that audience goodbye. Regardless of which stage actor those audeince members saw, they all know who Michael Crawford is. They know he originated the role. His picture is still in the official program! They know his voice from the Original London Cast Recording. Those 56 million people want to see the best. Are you so secure in your decision-making that you will turn away this ready-made audience in favor of one you hope to court? Why take the risk? Why not cast the sure thing? Michael Crawford! Sincerely yours, Genie Stelnicki...one of 56,000,000 |

Those of you who are new and have casting power over the upcoming movie "Phantom of the Opera," should put Michael Crawford in that part. He IS the recognized Phantom all over the world. If you want a successful movie, put the one person in it who could make that happen. I attended a recent concert, and his voice is better than ever. Also he has just published his autobiography in England, and is scheduled for many appearances over there. His book is already off and running to be a best seller.
