Please count me in support of Mr. Crawford being cast in the lead. I saw Evita without it's original cast members and felt like I was watching a music video on MTV. Otherwise it would have been a great classic film to add to my collection. To tell you the truth, I was more entertained with "Dumb and Dumber", which is part of my collection (and thanks to 5 children!!!!). In all due respect to Mr. Banderas or whomever else they may consider casting in the lead, there is ONLY one Phantom (Crawford). Let the Hollywood Bozos punch up the Raoul role, add a few forgettable tunes for him, and MAKE that part the STAR ? Just don't mess with my Phantom. I know my voice is small, but realize, there's about 1,000 others who probably feel the same way and won't bother to write. Sigh. Lucy |

My name is Stephanie Rand, and I am a student in high school, going into my sophmore year. I discovered Phantom this past year, and it has been a wonderful discovery, believe me! The music, the stories, the fact that this one character expertly created by Gaston Leroux has touched so many lives. I am also a major fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber. I've seen Cats three times live, and own the video production. I consider Mr. Webber to be the musical genius of the 20'th century. I am also a long time fan of Warner Bros. studios, which is apparent when you take a look at my little collection of movies. The WB logo is prominent. Unfortunately, though Mr. Webber and Warner Bros. have shown excellent judgement in the past, this new recent development utterly destroys every positive image of the composer, the studio, and the wonderful, sad story of the phantom. Antonio Bandereas was and is a good actor in his own right. I enjoy his skills as much as the next person. But I and many of my friends all agree that, though he is skilled, it defies logic that he would be cast in this show. If he has indeed been signed, as the rumors state, then all the more pity for all of us, the fans, and for those involved. I do not wish to sound threatining, but I have complete assurance from my friends, family, etc. that if Mr. Banderas has indeed been cast, we will not see the show. I could easily petition recieve over one-hundred signatures at my high school alone, not mentioning the neighboring schools and colleges, from people who are surprised and a bit disappointed at this development. My impressions of you have been slightly tarnished, Mr. Webber and Warner Bros., but it will only be worse if this show does indeed continue in this manner. I don't understand how intelligent, successful business-people as yourselves would seemingly ignore the letters, comments, promises and threats from hundreds, thousands of people. I must ask this question. What will it do to your box office revenue if these thousands of people make good on their promise? It would seem that there has been an overwhelming opposition to your choice. Please, reconsider, before this buries the show, and the impressions that many such as myself have developed. I thank you for your time. Sincerely, Stephanie Rand |

So I'm adding my voice and website support to the cause, and above all...my thanks to those who have worked so hard to make this thing come this far! Nothing's impossible and good things are worth fighting for. Thanks guys! Leigh |

I have seen his performance in the movie version of EVITA. He gave justice to his role. He is also a very good singer and performer. But I do believe that there are some roles which are meant for those who have done it and superbly done marvelous results. With due respect to Mr. Banderras, I do know that when the word Phantom is mention, the name of Michael Crawford would automatically pop into your mind. The PHANTOM is MICHAEL and MICHAEL CRAWFORD is the PHANTOM! I hope the message is clear!!! Thank you, NOEL |

I never fulfilled my dream of seeing Michael Crawford as the Phantom so the news of a movie and the absolute certainty that no one but Michael would play the phantom gave me and others hope. Imagine my horror at the idea of Antonio Banderas as The Phantom. Warner and Mr. Webber, reread the story, watch the other movies. The Phantom is not a young man!!! He is Michael Crawford! A mature man, in pain and weary at the world but seeing hope anew in Christine and her talent and youth. I did get to see Michael in concert here in Phoenix last year. I will remember it forever. He is charming and every bit as talented up close (8th row center!). And OH THOSE EYES. Please do not commit blasphemy by casting the wrong person. |

I think that Michael Crawford is the ONLY person who can play the role of the Phantom correctly. I've been to see "The Phantom of the Opera" and it wasn't the same without him. Antonio Banderas would make a very good Raoul, but not the Phantom. Michael provokes a deep feeling inside when he sings. Antonio doesn't have as strong of a compassion for what he is singing. I will not see the movie without Michael as the Phantom. If anyone has any sense, they will realize that the movie will make more money with Michael as the Phantom than with Antonio as the Phantom. Antonio's fans will not want to see him so covered up by a mask and such, but Michael's fans just want to hear him preserving his orginal role. With Antonio as Raoul, you would get his fans to see it, and with Michael as the Phantom, you will get ALL of Michael's fans to see it, and on top of that, you will get all of the bunches of Phantom fans. That's lots of money. Please cast Michael as the Phantom and make everyone happy. Thank you. |

His voice is amazing, and he managed to make the audience feel so much compassion for this man. We all felt his pain. Michael has said that the role meant very much to him, and he would like to do the movie. I can guarantee that I won't be spending my money to see anyone but Michael in the role. If he is cast, however, chances are that I will be back time and time again to see the movie. |

He has changed my way of life, and my approach to music. His voice calms and warms me. He, and he alone, can play the Phantom. While the play is brilliant, and I will go again and again, Michael Crawford will always take the place of the "Best" in my book. Anyone who saw Mr. Lloyd-Webber's 50th Birthday celebration on PBS, knows that Antonio Banderas is not the person to play this role. Why is it that Sarah Brightman was there representing her role as Christine, but there was no Michael Crawford? I'm appalled that Mr. Lloyd-Webber could conceive of the idea to use anyone but Michael Crawford for the movie. A changed life because of Michael Crawford, Jason Hammond |

Nothing has changed. I still want Michael Crawford to play the Phantom in the movie. Please, don't make the mistake of casting the wrong person in this title role. Michael has a wonderful and distinctive voice that is absolutely mesmerizing. Recently, I was at my nieces' dance recital and the theme was something about going through the decades of the 20th century. Just before the recital actually started, a song started playing though the sound system. The title was something like "Somewhere in Time". I recognized the voice immediately!! I hit my sister in the arm and said "That's Michael Crawford". I'm pretty sure the song must have come off the EFX CD or something like that. I have been waiting years for the movie to be made with Michael as the Phantom. WB - Please make the movie with Michael Crawford! No one else can portray this role and sing the songs like he can. |

I will see Phantom for the first and possibly only time on 16th August at the Liverpool Empire with Scott Davies as the Phantom. I believe it is brilliant, but there is only one Phantom and that is Michael. The CD is brilliant. I can't wait to see the film (if it ever happens) and they have to get Michael to star in it. Michael is an outstanding performer - he proved it often before "Phantom" - and we all can only hope that the mistake of choosing a "big movie name" (like Madonna in "Evita") wil not occur here. |

I have the original "Phantom recording" with Michael Crawford on it. I love listening to it when I get the chance. So, if this movie is to be made, Mr. Crawford must have the Phantom role, no one else! He is "The Phantom"!! Mr.Banderas is good, I watched him sing with Sarah Brightman, on the PBS special of "Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th Birthday Celebration." The thing is Mr.Crawford has more experience and is a fine artist, in singing. This way, with a movie, people ages from now, can experience the raw Phantom talent, that Michael Crawford has!!!! |

One of those times I brought some of my grandchildren, and their Mother and Father. All of them were equally thrilled, and wanted to return to Broadway to see other productions, but the first was the best by far. I returned later to see it after Mr. Crawford left the production. The artist had a very nice voice, but the Magic wasn't there. Michael Crawford so impressed me that I went to see him at Radio City Music Hall when he later appeared in concert. Again the Magic was there. I now own every CD, tape and vidio I can find and play them more often than any others. I truly can not picture anyone else as the PHANTOM, there is no other! |

There would be NO version I would see unless Michael Crawford was the Phantom!! Why was there nothing like this to make ourselves count when there was an issue of Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin being the stars of Evita?? I saw Evita over a dozen times, none of which had the original cast (darn it).. the choices for the movie stars still has me upset. Michael Crawford "made" the Phantom.. just look at the SRO reports of the boxoffice when he was the Phantom.. Who else could generate such loyalty.. who can bring that pathos to the role.. who deserves this role more.. I'd write, phone, email anyone who could make a difference in assigning this role to Michael Crawford.. just give me the addresses/tel#s/email addresses!!! |

A film version is a wonderful idea that will allow fans to cherish the Phantom experience forever. Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman CREATED the roles of the Phantom and Christine. By bringing in Antonio Banderas, John Travolta, or some other box-office magnet, you run the risk of ruining the Phantom memories for many people. My suggestion is to do what was done for CATS: bring back many of the original cast members and recreate the Phantom experience that began its success. Every movie that Hollywood makes from a theatrical production sucks bad. They suck so bad because they use people that they think are popular, but they can't play a scene that was born to be played by a certain actor. Crawford does such a beautiful job in the role of the Phantom. He was born to play that role. His hands are so sexual. He is not to old for the part. His age would not show anyways especially with all that makeup he has to wear for the role. It would not matter if he was 100 years old; the age just would not show! I am 16 years old. If you would want to attract teenagers to the movie using Micheal Crawford would be the smartest thing that Hollywood has done its whole entire existence.Believe me I would know, I have tons of teenager friends that totally love Micheal Crawford. Crawford is the best Phantom ever known to man! His voice! Oh my gosh! Well I am out! Micheal Crawfords #1 fan, Danielle Jimenez |

To the Cheif of Staff at Warner Bros. involving Phantom Of the Opera, My name is Sean French. I am an actor and have been acting since as long as I remember and I am only seventeen. I am also from Utah. Now, a seventeen year old actor from Utah probably is one of the lower forms of life on this god-fore saken planet but I still have my values. An actor who orginated a role for a play, that today still makes millions, and performed with such eleoquence and perfection that it won him a tony and which 95% of the people in the US of A know by name, deserves a little respect. I am ofcourse talking of Michael Crawford and the smash hit musical, "The Phantom of the Opera". Now my pleads are probably in vain but, at least give him a chance. He has the voice and character and ability that we (I speak for the rest of the American Public) recognize. I have heard people say he is to old. Get a body double for the stunt scenes! But if you cast someone like Antonio Banderas, it will be a mistake. Michael Crawford is the Actor that turmed me on to musical theatre. I know what I want to do with my life now because of him. He has acted for camera before and probably do so again. I hear his concerts are sold out in Austraila and his CD's are at the top of the charts. Give him a chance. His time is wearing thin on this earth and let us still enjoy his heavenly voice while we still have it. Let him finish the legacy he started. Thank You. Michael puts everything into his performances and the passion with which he performed left the audience spellbound. Yes, there are younger artists with more box office pulling power for the "youth" audience, but none could make you "believe" in the character. Anyone could 'play' the phantom, but none could actually 'live' him and make the audience 'live' him too. Come on WB and Lord Lloyd Webber. Listen to your public, not your bank managers. BELIEVE IN MICHAEL, LISTEN TO THE PUBLIC AND HELP THE PHANTOM TO SING WITH THE ONLY VOICE HE DESERVES |

THE ROLE IS HIS AND WITHOUT DISCREDITING THE MANY GOOD PERFORMANCES OF PHANTOM BY OTHERS, THERE IS SIMPLY NO BEATING THE ORIGINAL AND HEART MOVING SOUND OF MICHEAL SINGING AS PHANTOM. AFTER READING AN ARTICLE IN THE DAILY EXPRESS, I WAS AMAZED THAT ANYONE COULD CONSIDER HIM TO BE TOO OLD FOR THE ROLE. HE DISPLAYS A FAR MORE REALISTIC AGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE INTENSITY OF THE ROLE, WHILE ANTONIO IS A GOOD SINGER, WHY CAN'T HE BE RULED OUT ON THE BASIS OF BEING TOO YOUNG. ALW SHOULD TURN TO THE MAN WHO MADE THE MUSICAL OF PHANTOM EVERYTHING THAT IT IS AND WITHOUT HIM, NO AMOUNT OF HOLLYWOOD GLAMMOR CAN BRING THE SUCCESS AND EMOTION THAN MICHEAL CRAWFORD WOULD ENEVITALBY BRING SO NATURALLY TO THE ROLE. |

How could you imagine that the public would want to see anyone else in the part. Banderas was fine as a Spaniard portraying a hispanic hero, but how could you even consider him as the Phantom? Travolta should not even be an option for the role. One musical movie hit in 1979 does not qualify him for the title role in the most famous musical ever. I have seen many superb musical actors as the Phantom, however I would not wish to the movie if there were any other actor in the role. The musical theatre needs musical actors, and just being able to sing is not the same. |

He IS the Phantom and I saw his wonderful performance in London, several years ago.He can do, superbly, all that the part demands. Those Hollywood actors in the running, such as Banderas or Travolta do not, in my opinion, have the necessary musical talent and audience captivation that Crawford has. Where is Loyd-Webber's patriotism towards English actors? I am sure an American playwright would exhibit fervent patriotism if he had the choice!Picking a Hollywood star is second-best! |

He has made the part his own, any other man, star or unknown, is completely unacceptable. What on earth are Warner thinking of? If they make this film and want it to be a resounding success, they MUST have Michael Crawford in the role of the Phantom. I would certainly not bother seeing the film with any other star in his rightful role. Remember the James Bond films? The only problem is trying to talk WB into putting Michael Crawford in the role of the phantom. I think Michael Crawford is the best man for the role! I don't think that Antonio Banderas can't sing or anything, infact I just watched Evita last night and he was great, but with his strong spanish accent I just can't picture him in the role, and I don't really want to. I can't see any reason why WB would choose Banderas for the role. And he definatly shouldn't be chosen for the role for his good looks! Erik wasn't at all hansom, and who ever plays him will be wearing heavy makeup anyway! Michael Crawford has a beyond beautiful voice and he's had plenty of experience in the role too. So why not choose the most obvious person for the role, choose CRAWFORD!!!!!!!!!! |

I am a 17 years old female who has to admitt that antonio banderas is a babe and would appeal to the younger generation of film watchers which would draw in the money for the studio bosses. But as some who worships THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and the quility of Michael Crawfords fantastic singing voice I can not understand why (having seen Evita) they would cast someone who clearly should not become a professional singer. Hears hoping that the article (the express july 20) can gain support for the cause and address the shortage of support from the British public!!!!! |

I have the Phantom soundtrack (as sung by him) and his voice compares to Mario Lanzo and Gordon MacRae. Imagine my shock when I'd only seen him play Frank Spencer! WB - Don't give us any crap about Michael being too old. Read the book - the Phantom is 55 and Michael is 57. Give us reality, not Hollywood's youth fanaticism. Why on earth do the powers that be in movie production insist on trying to make an already winning formula "better" by replacing one of the main constituents? A classic case of this is trying to re-make the series "Prime Suspect" using a different actress when Helen Mirren was still available!! The re-made "Cracker" was also a miserable failure in England. MC is 57. He looks and acts around 40 at most, but I guess that's beside the point. The Phantom /Christine romance is not only a Beauty & The Beast romance but also a May / December one, but hey, who in Hollywood ever respects the "Orignal Material"? Maybe Hollywood should follow through with this notion and get rid of all its leading men over fifty and make way for the younger generation. Who should go first? Well, naturally, all the guys OLDER than MC. Those who are 60 years old or more! People like Gene Hackman, Donald Southerland, George C. Scott, Alan Alda, Anthony Hopkins, Burt Reynolds, Dustin Hoffman. What's that you say? Some of these guys are "character actors" and should be allowed to stay. Some of them might be surprised to hear that, but OK. But the following guys are really over the hill and should never get a romantic role again, right? Guys like Clint Eastwood, and Jack Nicholson, Paul Newman, Michael Caine, James Garner, Sean Connery and poor old Robert Redford! Next let's clear out the 50 to 59 group. Who wants to take out Arnold Schwarzenegger? Come on, he's past the big 5*0*! And Harrison Ford - 57 himself - no one cares about him any more do they? Next we have to break the bad news to Tommy Lee Jones, Sam Neil, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Michael Douglas. Martin Sheen, John Lithglow, Beau Bridges - they don't really expect to work anymore do they? I could go on, the list is longer. Somewhere, someone famous turns 50 every day. The Boomers fall down and go boom? Not bloody likely! The War Generation to bow out gracefully? Don't bet on it! The truely talented ones, like our Genius, Michael Crawford are here to stay for the duration. Thank God for them all! I'll see you all at the movies! Ta, Audrey :) |

When my mother told me about this Website, I got so excited and had to come here immediately. Ever since I first heard that Michael Crawford wasn't going to be cast in the movie, I was distraught. Firstly, Antonio doesn't do anything for me and could NEVER do the role justice. Michael was unquestionably the best, although the actor I viewed on Broadway was excellent also. Michael belongs there. He created the breathtaking, awesome performance that has wooed the world. He deserves it above anyone else. Who cares that he's aged now. He's an attractive man and believe me, he's got it over Antonio, in my book!!! I and my whole family are BIG Phantom fans. Recently, on PBS, they aired a wonderful special of one of Michael's concerts in which he sang "Music of the Night" to such perfection, I replayed the tape over and over and over again. His rendition sends chills and moves like no other. Man, I really hope all this works and gets Michael in there. Rip up Antonio's contract!!!! |

Whoever made the page decided to have Peter Karrie and Michael Crawford sing the same clips. Please visit this site and judge for yourself who elicits emotions that will have you crying.
