Not because I think that he should play it because he was the original phantom (I also do not agree with the boycott thing). I think that Michael Crawford can actually feel the phantom. He can make me believe that he actually is the phantom. One of my favorite things is this. I was watching the Micheal Crawford in Concert TV special. When he and Dale Christian sang "The Phantom of the Opera", I could have died. He walked toward her slowly, went to feel her hair, and his hand trembled. He can actually feel the part. If you can get anyone as good as he is, please do. The first musical I ever saw was The Phantom of the Opera. This is my favorite musical. The first time I saw it was with Michael Crawford. It turned me into an artist. It made me love Broadway and musicals and operas and everything that goes with them. I am becoming an accomplished singer and a better actress everyday. All of this from seeing on musical. I am a huge fan of Mr. Webber's musicals. Joseph, Starlight Express, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Phantom, Song and Dance. I love everything about it, and I owe it all to Mr. Crawford and Mr. Webber. |

I would hate that its essence be destroyed on film with the wrong actors playing the wrong parts. In my eyes, Michael Crawford is , and always will be, the true Phantom of the Opera, and no one can take his place. If he is not in this movie as the title character, I will not see it. |

I am a Michael Crawford fan and wouldn't pay to see someone else play the part in a movie. Who could replace that Voice and the emotion he conveys through his singing. The part of the Phantom belongs to Michael Crawford. |

He is the best known & the best suited for the part. I just don't believe another actor can do the part the justice that Michael Crawford can do. WB would be doing the movie and the audience a huge favor by casting him instead of a "name". When I think of Phantom of the Opera, I immediately think of Michael Crawford & that incredible voice of his. |

I just want to thank TMCPM for all its hard work in attempting to have the correct person play the role of the Phantom - and, of course, none other than Michael Crawford should have that role! I, too, have written to Sir Webber and Warner Bros. more than once about this; and I proudly wear the T-shirt "If Michael Crawford isn't the Phantom, than more than Box 5 will be empty." Antonio Banderas would be a suitable Raoul, but never the Phantom - only Michael can do that role! |

Collins Website: Referred by: Net Search From: IRELAND Time: 1998-12-26 02:17:09 Comments: I saw Michael Crawford in the original production of the Phantom in London. Since then I have seen the show three times with other actors in the role. Although the music was still wonderful and the actors competent the show was not the same. That night in London is the most wonderful I have ever spent in a theatre. The three actors I have seen since gave good performances as I am sure Antonio Banderas would but they were just that - performances. Michael Crawford appeared to live the part not just perform it. He made me "care" about the Phantom, he gave him soul as well as form. It would be a tragedy if he was not given the chance to play the Phantom in the film. Surely ALW wants the best possible version of his work to be immortalised on film? If he does then Michael Crawford must play the Phantom. |

The way he can move an audience to feel so many different emotions in only a few hours is the mark of a true talent genius. If Michael is not in the starring role in POTO I will not go see it! Antinio Banderas? Are you people serios? are you thinking of $$$ or the end result of a good picture. The Mask Of Zoro was not a financial success. However with Michael in the tital role Im sure he can bring home an Oscar for this role to match the Tony he has already won, unless you want to hear, "The movie was o.k. but It would have been better with Michael Crawford." |

I owned the black and white film before A.L. Webber had released his Pahntom's album or being performed on stage, which I have seen three times. I really would like to join this campaing as I think Mr. Crawford should be the one and only Phantom. I like very much Antonio Banderas, not only as an actor but also as a person, despite being spanish like me and this new film would be a good opportunity for him to go up in his acting career; but Crawford is the correct person according to age, acting, and voice. However Banderas is suitable for playing the part of Raoul. Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to express what I feel. |

Boguslawski Website: Referred by: Yahoo! From: Chicago, IL Time: 1998-12-18 13:26:36 Comments: I've seen "Phantom" a total of 17 times, in 6 different cities with a total of 8 different actors in the lead, and though each were fantastic in their own right, Michael is far and away the one I would want to see in the film. His is the definitive portrayal; his range and depth of emotion, soulful and skilled interpretation of the songs, undeniable charisma and connection with the audience cannot be duplicated. He should be allowed to join the ranks of actors who have gone on to be film legends in the musical roles they originated (Yul Brynner, Robert Preston, Rex Harrison, Joel Gray, etc.). Not allowing the then relatively unknown Julie Andrews to reprise her stage role of Eliza Doolittle has long been considered to be one of the most ill-advised casting decisions in musical film history (especially since Julie went on to win an Oscar that year for "Mary Poppins" over film legend Audrey Hepburn's Eliza Doolittle.) I beg the producers of this film to not let history repeat itself; fill up the supporting roles, if you like, with an all-star cast, but in my opinion, if the film is to be successful, it needs the magic of Michael Crawford--the man who has become synonymous with the role--as the "Phantom." |

Although this gentleman has a fine acting ability, his voice does not have the range, tone or quality for the role. There is only one person that fits the role to perfection! That person is none other than Michael Crawford. Since hearing his "portrayal" of Eric, the Phantom, I have become extremely interested in the man's music..owning all of CD's. Matter of fact, I don't believe I've seen any musical CD's done by Antonio at all. I was not impressed with Antonio's singing role in Evita! I recently viewed a PBS airing of Michael Crawford in concert with the Loyola Merrimont Choir in which he proved to a large audience that he still has "the power" to entertain. If you look at the faces of the audience it will prove to you the "grasp" of talent that Michael has.....I believe there were at least 4 or 5 standing ovations in a 1 hour performance! Do yourself a favour. Listen to the demand of the public. Big names without the voices will not bring the door receipts you are seeking. If John Wayne or Clarke Gable were alive would they be cast in the role because of the drawing power of their names? I think not, conversely, you are doing the same injustice to this movie by using Antonio Banderas. Again, no offence meant to Antonio's acting ability, but Michael Crawford was and always will be the ONLY Phantom! For your consideration; Ron Payne |

I was so surprised when I saw that (1) they're actually starting to do it now and -- much moreso -- that (2) Michael Crawford was not guaranteed the to be the Phantom. Antonio Banderes (or however you spell it), GIVE ME A BREAK! I'm going to e-mail this website to every Phantom fan I know of. I'm on board for getting Michael Crawford in and Antonio out. Thomason Website: Referred by: Net Search From: Liverpool, England Time: 1998-12-16 09:07:12 Comments: This is a direct plea to those involved in the creation of the "Phantom" movie. I have serious doubts about the credibility that this film will have, based both on the Hollywood portrayal of the phantom in the past, and on how a stage musical may be adapted to be effective on screen. However, if a film must be made, the preferable and most viable choice for the role of Phantom must be the man who understands the role better than any other, particularly more than someone who is new to the role. As the original, Michael Crawford is undoubtably the best, Erik's character is never compromised and Michael plays him with his soul. The roumours that Antonio Banderas is being considered for the role are somewhat worrying as although he would undoubtedly make a dark and sultry Phantom, the fact that he cannot even pronounce the word "phantom" (as on Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th birthday concert) would make the entire effort instantly laughable. I urge you, whatever your decision on casting, to make the film a faithful rendition of the original musical and not pander to the Hollywood prerequisite of spectacle - " Phantom" stands for itself and needs no bastardisation. |

| Name: Steve Tomlitz Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Illinois Time: 1998-12-14 19:05:25 Comments: As talented of an actor as Mr. Banderas is...after viewing Evita, it became painfully obvious that he does not have the vocal range necessary for the demanding role of The Phantom. In addition to simply not having the notes...the gruff sound that he has while singing is also completely wrong for the Phantom. Remember, the Phantom is a lover and composer of opera! Lastly, I believe that the accent which Mr. Banderas can never seem to lose in any role he plays, will hinder the authenticity of the Phantom...he is French right? So, why would he sound hispanic? I respect Antonio Banderas, and have enjoyed most of his films, but I feel that if he makes this film, he will not only ruin his career by making himself look foolish, but he will also taint the show for those that have not already been fortunate enough to see it. Sincerely, Steve Tomlitz |

I don't believe Antonio Banderas, John Travolta, or any other Hollywood star could bring the same depth to the role. Just because Banderas is the star of the moment doesn't mean that he could possibly sing the role of Phantom as well. As for the argument that the movie wouldn't make as much money with Crawford in the title role; Phantom of the Opera is an incredibly popular musical, and just about everyone who's ever seen or heard of it has also heard of Michael Crawford. |

I have seen this stage production 9 times, and have seen many Phantoms. Only Crawford was meant for the role. IF anyone other than Michael Crawford gets the role, I will NOT see the film. Michael Crawford IS The Phantom, no one else. Want a hit movie? Cast Mr. Crawford in the title role as originally planned Warner Bros. Don't be stupid. |

This is a great web page, and I support the cause all the way. Personally, I think that Michael Crawford should be the Phantom of the Opera in the new movie, if WB even decides to make one. A few days ago I took a poll at school to see how many people want Michael Crawford or Antonio Banderas to do the movie. Out of the 44 people I asked, 9 said they would like to see Antonio Banderas in the lead role and 35 said they would want Michael Crawford in the lead role. The ages of people I asked was mainly 13-14 years old, but I did ask 8 middle aged teachers, and 1 said they'd like Antonio in the role, the rest saying Michael Crawford. If WB does decide to make a movie, why would they choose anyone other than the original? They should already know that with the original performer, it's a guaranteed hit. The people that will go to see the movie are the ones that need to be pleased to tell if the movies a great one; and most of those people would vote for Michael Crawford to be the Phantom. Give the people what they want, okay? |

I'm a huge fan of Michael Crawford and the movie should be his role. I just have one question in my mind, how come they were goin to do the movie in 1991 and they never did? Did they had Bank ruptcey problem? Anyway, I think you guys should also have Sarah Brightman in the role. Maybe you guys should also have a Sarah Brightman Phantom movie Campaign (TSBPMC) . As in matter of fact, you guys should ask Warner Bros. and The Really Useful Group have the whole original cast in the leading movie. But The main person that you guys should get contact with is Andrew Loyd Webber Because He is the Creator and/or Maker of the Phantom of the opera and You guys should convince him to have the Original Cast in the Role because he has the control of doing it!! |

Michael is the only choice for the role which he created. If Webber is going to make a show based on his play, then use those who helped get it to this point. The one and only original Phantom! |

Michael Crawford right now is of an age to successfully bring this part to the movie but he and none of us are getting younger. Warner Brothers you have wasted enough valuable time and tossed away one of your most precious commodities. I suggest you call a meeting and talk this over again and get this movie filmed, and filmed as it should have been years ago. Get Michael Crawford. M. L. Ketterling |

And some of the performers were outstanding!(Glenn Close) was exceptional...Antonio Banderas was not. His voice was weak and he didn't pronounce the words very well. The power of the Phantom is his voice and his passion. These were sorely lacking in Antonios voice. The other thing that was lacking in this Celebration was Michael Crawford. He is such a wonderful actor and his singing has the depth and feeling the role of the Phantom needs. I vote for Michael in the movie version. The sales of the Phantom video will more than guarantee the films success.Somebody please wake up at Warner Bros. This movie is what 40 million Phantom fans have been waiting for. That fact alone should sway the vote for Michael. This could be Antonios greatest mistake... a real career bomb. At least John Travolta had the good sense to bow out of the deal. Very Sincerely, Gloria |

It was a dream come true for me for I had missed him as the Phantom. Finally the time came for the Phantom songs. I really enjoyed him singing with his partner, but it was the song Music of the Night that really made me feel like I had seen the Phantom at last. We had heard that there was going to be a movie a few years ago. I looks like things have changed now. Whyever they decided Antonio Bandares is a mystery to me. I know he did Evita which I didn't see. I hope someone out there in Hollywood will change their minds, I would still very much like to see Michael Crawford as the Phantom in the movie. We enjoyed your webpage and are still spending time reading it. good job. Lori |

Why make a movie with somebody else if you have a master waiting in the wings? Why continue to let 16 year old children decide how movies should be made today? Bring back the class and style of yesterday, bring back the great Michael Crawford. |

I think that this would a much better casting choice, and think that anyone else would be a great mistake and the greatest mistake of all would be Antonio Banderas! |
