Comments: I am a drama coach and part time free lance writer. I was filled with disbelief when a student of mine told me about this website and campaign. Certainly, I said, you must be in error. Even Hollywood wouldn't be so removed from the theatre and music forum to suggest a musical film, of Phantom Of The Opera, could be successful without the man who made this unlikely story a household name. Michael Crawford, an unknown name to us here in the United States, created a sensation that is unheard of these days in the theatre. It appears he is creating quite a stir in the minds of the public again. How foolish to pass up the financial success of Mr. Crawford's impecible portrayal of this character, for a second rate, forgetable performance by a current "star", that has no lasting "star" quality. If Warner Bros execs have just one ounce of intelligent flowing juices in their brains, they will listen to what the people on this website are trying to tell them. Good luck in your endeavors campaigners. For all of our sakes, I hope you succeed. You can be sure I will spread the word. David

Comments: Okay, I'll say it: Antonio Banderas cannot sing, whether it be this role or any other. And no other man can play the Phantom other than Michael Crawford -- HE IS THE PHANTOM.

Comments: Although Antonio Banderas is a very talented performer, I think that the only one who can do true justice to the role of Phantom is Michael Crawford. He created the role, finessed it, and gave it something no other actor has been able to endow it with. Everyone deserves to see him perform the role that created such a sensation in London and on Broadway, not just be limited to the vocal recordings made in London.

Comments: Hello, Here are some revised lyrics for his Lordship and all his friends

"WISHING YOU WERE SOMEHOW SANE AGAIN"
You were once a great composer. Your music really mattered.....
You were once a friend to Michael. Did that friendship shatter?....
Wishing you were some how sane again...
Wishing you could some how hear...
Sometimes it seems, we have the means, we could help save your career!........
Wishing you would change your choice again, knowing that you always could.......
Writing to you, should help you to do, the changes you know you should...........
Casting calls and movie Moguls, cold and temperamental, Seem for you the worst companions, don’t you know they’re “mental”?.................
Wishing you were some how sane again, why must you so often lie?......
Too many years, proving fans fears. Why won’t you cast our guy?.................
No more movie stars, Michael has no Peers!.....
No more gazing past Michael like he isn’t here.....
Can’t you hear our cry? .............................

Comments: Michael Crawford is the only Phantom!!! He puts such emotion into his work. He makes Erik's pain come to life in a way that can make the hardest person cry and weep along with him. If there is a movie made, and I support it, then it should be made with Michael Crawford as the Phantom!

Comments: I have been a fan of Michael Crawford's for years. I did not have the privilege of seeing him perform Phantom, but have worn out two sets of tapes and a cd listening to the Original Cast Recording. I think Mr. Crawford is the only one who should be considered for the role of phantom. He originated it, breathed life into Erik on stage, made him memorable and human, and dignified the role with his consumate professional attitude, and magnificent voice. How can anyone else fill those shoes, that role? I think WB would be making a very big mistake if the movie goes forward without Mr. Crawford in the title role that HE deserves. I, like other fans, have waited YEARS for this movie, always believing...on the *good faith* word of Sir Lloyd-Weber, that Michael Crawford would once more don the mask for the role. I saw Mr. Crawford on Regis and Kathy Lee recently......and he sings the Phantom of the Opera as if he just stepped onto the stage for his debut performance. Bravo!!!!!

Comments: Michael Crawford is the best man for the job. All that about antonio bandaras is a joke. First of all this is a musical aboutt the mystery in the paris opera. At least get a guy with a french accent not another accent. Don't get me wrong he was great in Evita. Crawford is the man to do the job. Thanx

Comments: Diane, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry if I've offended you with my previous post. One of the things that impressed me about your site was the absence of negative material on Antonio Banderas. I'm am sorry if you've lost respect for him. I guess I can't change that. But, please don't base your resentment on that message at Corona. When I read it, I was a bit confused. I got the impressoin that it was not written by Antonio Banderas at all and was ment as a joke. Whatever the case, I'm on your side and will shut up now before I run this thing into the ground. My second choose for the Phantom is still Antonia Banderas, but Micheal Crawford is truely #1.*************************************************** Kim, if Antonio Banderas did not write that e-mail at Corona, it was a grave and irresponsible act on their part and very bad journalism to publish it as such. If it was written by one of his fans, they did not do Mr. Banderas any favors. It is considered taboo in the entertainment industry to campaign on your own behalf and this will not cast him in a favorable light. What really hurts me is that any of this is an issue at all. No fan should be reduced to having to champion an artist of Michael Crawford's stature, he should have been handed this role on a silver platter along with being wined and dined. This campaign should have never been in existence and he should have done this movie years ago! It also hurts me that after all the accolades and applause by the critics and the press while he played the Phantom in London, New York and Los Angeles, it has now come down to the fans defending him and demanding that he is given back the role that he was destined to play. I am not in the least upset with you, I am upset with the entertainment industry who no longer cares nor listens to the paying audience, or to people who are making their desires known as to what they want to view in movies today. I am also disenchanted with the media who are not passing this story along to the general public because of Hollywood politics and a "box office draw". Thank you for your posts, all support is very much appreciated and welcomed here at the campaign. Sincerely, Diane Flogerzi

Comments: I've signed the guestbook before, but I just wanted to offer my support again. It almost brings me to tears (yes, it sounds corny, but its true) that I may never have the chance to witness the power of Mr. Crawford's performance. I can only imagine what it was like. I took the variety add to school and showed everyone. There's a lot of support at my school, at least. Then I showed the MC in Concert video & the Webber Birthday Bash, and I think I converted just about anyone who had doubts about the superiority of Crawford's voice. I think the fact that Crawford hasn't responded to the campaign shows class that a certain opponent of his doesn't have. A rumour was going around that Antonio was reconsidering the role because the amount of backlash he's gotten. I can only "hope" that it is true. Good work on the add.

Comments: I wanted to respond to Kim's request in the post below for us to not be "harsh" to Antonio Banderas and to have the sense not to "hate" him. Kim, I started this web site eight long months ago. From the very beginning of this campaign I have done everything possible to keep it from reflecting negatively on Antonio Banderas. We have removed any impolite or cutting posts from the "Open Letter to Antonio Banderas", I have turned down all negative artwork submitted to me by some really wonderful graphic artists and Antonio Banderas's name does not even appear in our Mission Statement, nor in our recent Variety ad. No group of people have ever run a cleaner campaign or tried to do it with such dignity and class. Now, we have been writing to Mr. Banderas for months pouring out our hearts and trying to convince him to be a gentleman and our hero and step down. We want the original Phantom to do this movie, it was promised to us, we expect it and a large group of us have been very angry for many many months. Now, I think it shows a lack of class on Mr. Banderas's part to e-mail Coming Attractions and use the celebrity that he has built up recently to campaign on his own behalf. Really, it is too much. The entire media on the face of this whole planet knows about this campaign, we have sent out enough e-mails, letters and press releases to ensure it, and the only reason we are not getting more general public press is due to the celebrity of Antonio Banderas's name. It is a sad state that people are not being listened to and that the media is not telling this story due to Hollywood politics. Michael Crawford and all of us were sold out by Webber, yes I am mad, and no, I will still not resort to putting ugly or cutting graphics or text on the web site against Banderas. But, he has completely lost all of my respect and I will never again be the fan of his I once was. Hollywood, you can stand behind the current flavor of the month over a great, dearly loved and legendary artist, we can't stop you. But the story is here for all to read, the people are speaking, this web site stays and will endlessly call out the name of the TRUE Phantom, MICHAEL CRAWFORD!!!!!!! Diane Flogerzi

I just had to sing and say I support Michael Crawford to star in the Phantom movie 100%! I regret that I've never had the chance to see him on stage as the Phantom, although I have seen The Phantom twice and listen to him on the cd reguarly. So I may not be highly qualified enough to speak with the fire of those who have seen him. However, I really hope want to see Micheal Crawford star in the movie. It would be such a thrill for me and I'm sure it would make the perfect introduction of The Phantom to the rest of the world. I would very much like to share with them the emotion I feel every time I hear the music in The Phantom especially when it's sung by Micheal Crawford.

Lastly, before I go, I have one small favor to ask. Please don't be so harsh on Antonia Banderas. He really is a good actor and not a bad signer. While, no one including him, could ever be better than Michael Crawford, he isn't all that horible. If Hollywood insists on finding a movie star to play the Phantom and refuses to choose Michael Craford, as I strongly suggest they do, I hope they have enough sense to choose Antonio Banderas. I also hope you have enough sense not to hate him for it.

Comments: I can't remember ever seeing such a protest over an upcoming movie. Surely Warner Brothers and ALW would not want to spend their time and money on something with the possibility of bombing before it is released. I have seen POTO on Broadway with someone else in the title role and came away feeling no regret that Christine didn't stay with Eric. It is only when listening to the CD and seeing tapes with MC in the role that I have been truly moved by this character. I will never see the movie with anyone else in Michael's place.

Comments: I was first introduced to Phantom in second grade, but it wasn't until three years ago that I began to feel the emotion and magic of the play and the music. I have seen Phantom twice, the last time they came to Boston was about two years ago. I was so enthralled, the acting and singing was beautifully done. I know that it takes a lot of talent to be a part of something so special, and I don't feel that Antonio Banderas has those skills. I also feel that there shouldn't even be a movie, but if there is to be one, only Michael Crawford will be able to capture the true Erik. Thank you for making this site, it's comforting to know that there are others out there who feel the same way and are hoping to accomplish something.

Comments: I have never had the good fortune of seeing Michael Crawford in Phantom of the Opera although I have seen the play on Broadway. I had the chance to see Mr. Crawford this past summer and felt that watching him on stage, just singing the music without mask or makeup, was better than the performance I saw on Broadway. I had always hoped that I would have a chance to see his performance, which I have heard so much about, when the movie of Phantom was made. Now I'm afraid that I won't ever get that chance because it sounds as if Hollywood and Andrew Lloyd Webber would rather risk this show on some Hollywood pretty boy than to put it in the hands of a master. I have no interest in seeing this movie if it will not star Michael Crawford.

Comments: I've never taken the time to come to the guestbook and include my thoughts here. I admit that when I first became involved with this campaign, it was only an outlet for my artistic expression. But along the way, I've seen the stage production, I've read the libretto, and I watched "another contender" sing "Phantom of the Opera" at ALW's birthday. Then I got the chance to actually see Mr. Crawford's performance of the Phantom on video tape. With other performers in the title role, Phantom of the Opera is a romance story. But with Crawford behind the mask, it becomes something more. It takes you to the place in your own heart that fears to be truly alone--it casts you there, cold in spotlight, not on the stage but within the stone-damp musty recesses of the Phantom's underground prison. As Crawford sings the fear and the joy, the love and the hate, it's your own heart that feels at risk of being left behind that mask, not just his. Your own soul knows what it is to be scorned for a face you cannot change. Your own body feels the chill of loneliness. And when Christine departs, Crawford's pain surrounds you, cradles you, absorbs you, until every cell in your every vein cries out for this love that cannot be. But that was just a video tape. Those who've seen his performance on stage speak of how that low-quality tape cannot hope to capture the depth of this man's performance. But a good director, with a great script, with fantastic sets, and with the wonderful performance of Michael Crawford... That most certainly could capture that essence, and better it. Every tear cried by every man and every woman who ever saw the stage production or listened to the original cast recording cries out to see Crawford's Phantom immortalized. We cried for it. We laughed for it. We loved for it. We paid for it.

Comments: I'm a nineteen-year-old big fan of Michael Crawford... I'm actually crazy about him and I've only heard his voice in the 1996 Miss Universe Pageant and in the Phantom CD!I'm so distressed that Warner Bros. even consider asking anybody else to play the part of the Phantom. I was really surprised with the magnitude of adoration Michael is receiving, but then again it can easily be seen how EVERYONE falls in love with his voice. I myself did the first time I've heard him sing. Just in case the company thinks he is not famous enough in the other parts of the world to generate big profit for them, let me tell them something: I myself have already convinced my classmates how great he is with my one mouth alone. Wait till people watch him in the movie and enthusiastically tell everyone they know about how mesmerizing he is. This will produce a ripple effect and more people will watch the movie. One time my friend told me that Antonio Banderas seemed to have already gotten the role, my day was ruined. I wish with all my heart Michael gets to play the role, and have his brilliant performance saved in motion picture for mankind to cherish. Good Luck to everyone in the campaign! The whole world is behind you!

Comments: To Whom It May Concern, I am one of the fortunate people who has seen Mr. Crawford perform this role three times. I have seen the original cast in London and twice on Broadway. I have seen Phantom three other times with other phantoms and no one can even compare with Mr. Crawford. I have also seen Mr. Banderas in Evita, and I felt that he was adequate. The role of Che is a difficult role, but that difficulty does not remotely compare to the difficulty of the Phantom. If Mr. Banderas could not set sparks to the role of Che, what makes anyone think he can handle the Phantom. Mr. Crawford is Phantom, much like Colm Wilkinson is Valjean. I would hope that with the millions that Weber is worth that he would sacrifice the name recognition of Mr. Banderas in order to give justice to the art of his movie. I am not happy that Phantom is being brought to the screen, but I would respect the effort if Mr. Weber would take this project seriously and cast the role as it should be. Sincerely, Danny Katz, a very concerned citizen

Now, 4 years later, I have seen Crawford perform at his concerts and in EFX, but I still haven't seen him perform his best role yet. Would I see a Phantom of the Opera movie with Michael Crawford? Most definitely!

Comments: USA Today has an article on upcoming movies and how nervous the studios are. The article points out that Hollywood prognosticators have been as off target in predicting the performance of recent films as the political pundits were in the last election and that some analysts are wondering whether studios know what audiences want. Well Warner Bros. we are telling you what we want. We want Michael Crawford as the Phantom. Now you know. You will have no excuses if you blow this. The audience is telling you in advance what it wants. Give us what we want and you'll have a big hit. Don't give us what we want and you get another Avengers. It's that simple.

Comments: I had to write after reading a previous post about a 15 year old daughter loving Michael. I have the same situation. Michael DOES appeal to all ages. My 15 year old daughter has his poster hanging over her bed. I cannot imagine anyone other than Michael as the Phantom. WB should realize that they have a potential Titanic on their hands. My daughter says that if Michael is the Phantom in the movie that the teenage girls would see the movie numerous times (as would this mother). It has been said before, but the Phantom must have the voice of an angel. It is this voice that has to mesmerize Christine (and the audience). Michael IS THIS VOICE and without this voice it won't work.

Comments: I have long been a fan of Michael Crawford. His amazing ability to "transform" into a character so completely is simply stunning. While it is true that many have played the Phantom, none have done it so completely or put so much of themselves into the role. The ultimate measure of any actor is whether you see the character they are playing, or the actor playing the character. Even without makeup, costume or sets, I have watched Mr. Crawford simply become the Phantom -- he has an uncanny ability to simply be the character, not an actor playing the character. I think it would be a terrible mistake for a movie of Phantom of the Opera to be made without him. I know that if I ever did wind up seeing such a film, however unlikely that would be, I would spend the entire time comparing the performance to "the best." There would be no way it could help but to fall far short. I once posted re-written lyrics to "Music of the Night" on the open board. One of my lines says, "Close your eyes, you can see who is the Phantom's soul -- Purge your thoughts of someone else cast in his role -- Close your eyes... Yes, that's Michael's voice you hear! How could you put someone else behind that mirror?" I still feel that sentiment very strongly. It is my sincere hope that all the new friends we gain with the publicity will indeed be able to "Help us save the Music of the Night..." My best to everyone, and if you should read this, Mr. Crawford, know that we are all doing this out of love and respect for you and your abilities. Blessings! Nana Kate

My reasoning is that he was the Phantom for 3 1/2 years and he originated the role, so why not have the orginal play the part instead of having to train someone else, which would take up valuble time and money.

Comments: The Variety ad is wonderful. It just shows what creative and well-motivated people can do when they are inspired. Michael Crawford's immense talent should not be scorned by Hollywood. His voice is incomparable and is recognized the world over as that of the Phantom of the Opera. Why should fans of the musical be expected to pay for and sit through a slap-dash version made to produce a quick buck? Warners should be ashamed of themselves. It has been Michael's role since the show first opened. Everyone else has been merely a substitute. The film should preserve the original quality of the musical as nearly as possible, not be a parody. Michael Crawford is not only a marvelous singer, he is a wonderful actor. I and many others have waited for years for the film to be made. I've already seen the substitutes and I will not go to see anyone else but Michael Crawford as the Phantom in the movie.

He sold out houses night after night as the Phantom and millions of people know him in that role.Without Michael the movie would be a disaster and I will not see it without Michael Crawford. Andrew Lloyd Webber wants someone young and new---I coulden't help but notice in the Cats video he had his original star re-create her role; why would he not want his origainal star in Phantom to ensure its success. No one else guarantees this movies success like Michael. It will continue to be profitable for years to come with him.WIthout him it can sit in stores and collect dust like "Evita" and other popular at the moment ALW musicals that are now vitually unknown.

Comments: I was introduced to Michael Crawford as Phantom thru my 15-year-old daughter. She has many friends in school who are also Michael Crawford fans, all having fallen in love with his interpretation of Phantom in the London Cast recording of POTO. My daughter has seen Phantom of the Opera in New York and San Francisco, as well as Michael's recent concert in which he sings from POTO. She says Michael BECOMES the Phantom - the others are merely playing a role. She and her friends will pay to see a Phantom of the Opera starring Michael and they will see the film over and over. They will buy anything related to Michael in a movie version. They will buy the video, they will buy c.d.s, cups, keychains, books, posters, computer disks - the list is endless. Anyone who thinks that Michael Crawford is not a draw for teenagers either does not know teenagers or does not know that the appeal of Michael's interpretation of Erik crosses all generations. I am the mother of a movie loving, money spending, music loving, Michael Crawford adoring teenager. And folks, she's got lots of friends who feel very strongly that Michael is their man. They are adamant that if the movie role of Erik in the does not go to Michael, they'll take their money elsewhere. Quite frankly, they and I are disgusted that anyone other than Michael Crawford is being considered for the movie role. Michael's portrayal of Erik is exquisite. Please don't ruin this classic. Give us Michael.

Comments: Dear Campaign Members, Fellow Phantom Fans and members of the Media............When this campaign first began it was very much like a single small sapling standing alone on the side of a hill in the midst of a giant storm. Although it was buffetted from all sides and had very little support, it withstood that storm. Now, that small sapling has grown into a mighty oak, tall and strong and able to withstand even the most monstrous of storms. Any chance of the campaign dying out is now long gone. There are too many of us to silence. WE WILL NOT GO AWAY!!!!! The 1100+ entries in this guestbook prove that this issue is very near and dear to the hearts of a large number of people, myself included. Michael Crawford's heartwrenching and soul-stirring characterization of the Phantom BELONGS on film! The movie-going public DESERVES the best and, believe me, Michael Crawford IS the best choice for this film. Remember back in 1986, beginning in London, people would SLEEP ON THE STREETS trying to get tickets to see him and that was at $70.00 to $80.00 a piece at the box office. The incredible amounts some people paid for tickets would boggle the mind. That same furor and devotion followed Michael across the Atlantic to Broadway and then again from one coast to the other all the way to Los Angeles. MICHAELMANIA was everywhere! Over $20,000.00 was paid for house seats to his final performance in LA. And Warner Bros. says he's not well enough known??!! Give me a break!! Any marketing department worth it's salt could take a PR campaign for "The Phantom of the Opera" starring the original Phantom himself, Michael Crawford, and create so much hype that once again people would be lining up around the block for tickets. Most intelligent people can see this and this campaign is LOADED with intelligent, thoughtful and insightful people. So, WARNER BROS., RUG and LORD LLOYD WEBBER, since WE can picture this film so clearly in our heads we will continue to work toward our goal of informing the public of the COLOSSAL blunder you seem so intent on making. Please, do the sensible thing. Learn from past Hollywood mistakes when it comes to adapting Broadway musicals to film. Use the actors the public associates with the show. Cast the man who is the SOUL of the Phantom, the man who's voice is indelibly imprinted upon the minds and hearts of over 13 million people. Keep the promise made to us in 1990. GIVE US MICHAEL CRAWFORD!!

Comments: I find it hard to understand why the people involved in bringing "The Phantom of the Opera" to the screen aren't able to see what seems so very obvious to everyone that I talk to. A "Big Movie Name" will not guarantee success. Some people will come of course but they won't come back because there won't be anything there worth seeing! Michael Crawford has a name that with the proper publicity will fill the movie theaters. People will come out of curiosity, that have never seen a play and many of them will be effected just as we were and word of mouth will bring more people! Then of course you have those of us that have been waiting for years for this movie to made. I don't know if they realize just how many of us there are. I never had the privilege of seeing Michael Crawford perform the role, but I did see him in concert this year, and a truly incredible thing happened... on the stage, in front of the audience, he became The Phantom of the Opera. No makeup, no mask, it was amazing! I have heard it said that his performance would go down in the annals of theater history... isn't that what is wanted for this movie? Why would you want to make just another Phantom (as though there haven't been enough) when you have the chance to make a classic, a movie that will be talked about for as long as there are movies! I've waited seven years for this, but without Michael Crawford I'm not interested! He is the only actor, I truly believe, that captures the spirit of "The Phantom of the Opera". Thank you, Janette

But I love Michael Crawford and have only heard him on CDs and I have his new video Michael Crawford in Concert. He is the best choice for the movie role because he's the original and best known and most memorable. He just puts so much into the role.I feel he has a kinship with the Phantom of Leroux's novel If the movie has to be made than it has to be Crawford.

Comments: The first time I heard Michael Crawford sing was on the recording of Phantom. That was 2 years ago, and I have never been the same since. I'll never forget how I felt the first time I heard him sing that part. And last July, I was privilaged enough to go to his concert. When he performed songs from Phantom, it was absolutely magical. That is the only word to decscribe it. There were no costumes or sets, and yet I felt like I was watching the play itself. He **was** the Phantom. His feeling, expression, and incredible acting ability added so much to an already beautiful song. For anyone who's reading this, and anyone who cares, it would be a huge mistake to cast anyone other than Michael Crawford as the Phantom in the movie. Yours, Joanne

Saw Michael Crawford as the Phantom back in 1991 in Los Angeles and his was a memorable and inspired performance. He should be given the first offer to do the movie and if he declines they should probably rethink it. His is the voice of the Phantom and it is world known and celebrated. Comments: Michael Crawford should be the title role in "The Phantom of the Opera". I believe that one of the only reasons that Antonio Bandaras is said to be cast is because of those 40-something year old women who just want to see the man in a sultry cape. Personally, I don't know how the rest of the population, especially the regular theatre-goers, would react to having a latin phantom; especially since the story takes place in France.

Comments: Hi Diane, My husband just wrote an entry to your Board, so I thought I would. As he had said, I became aware of Michael Crawford about 1993/1994. I immediately was blown-away by his voice and good looks. Unfortunately I had become aware of him after his appearances as the Phantom in both Las Angeles and San Diego.. If a Video is released by the "Lord" Andrew Lloyd Webber, that is, I would be first in line for one, that way I would finally see him in the "Role". As for the "Movie", as everyone so loudly states, only one Man is the "Role", Michael Crawford. I was glad to hear about your Ad in Variety, as you obviously were aware , by putting this Ad you would bring Michael directly to the eyes of trhose hither-to blind and silent Warner Bros. Executives. Frankly I can't believe they , the Executives, haven't looked very close at Michael for the "role". I frankly have a hunch they already have made the only correct financial decision they had, casting Michael in the "Role". They being in the business have from the beginning or shortly after realized the enormous advertisement value for thei " Phantom Movie" project that all the hype being generated on the Internet, your Page in particular can mean to the Movie project. Not to overlook all the Millions of dollars of advertisement Michael, his Phantom power and his ongoing tours and appearances are continuing to generate. Also the Variety Ad you have so wisely created may almost certainly cause something else to alert the senses of those Executives at Warner Bros.. as all Michael fans will purchase that magazine, the sales will be astronomical perhaps selling more of that weekly magazine and faster than any other issue. At first the magazine Publisher may be at a loss for the humungous success of the 16 Novenber Issue, but I'm sure will finally see or soon hear why. Well, I guess I have had y say, I so hope all your efforts will terminate soon with an anouncement by Warner Bros. However they may not be anxious to interfere with all that ongoing free hype and publicity, just yet. Well, I guess I will stop here, I could go on and on. Keep up your outstanding effort, Michael will probably invite you to be on hand in person for the filming of the 'Movie" and rightly so, you certainly will have deserved as much. God Bless you all and Michael. Joyce

Comments: I’m a Phantom fan. I’ve seen or heard some the the so-called “best” Phantoms out there. But, as a result of hearing Michael Crawford’s incredible voice on the original cast recording, I bought tickets to Crawford’s concert in New York last summer. I was stunned to discover that the beautiful voice on the OCR was even better today than when the CD was recorded.

At the appropriate moment in the concert when the Phantom songs were introduced, Crawford appeared on the stage, his back to the audience. He stood there for a few seconds, then turned to face his audience. Without the mask, without the hat or cape, Michael Crawford had somehow, mysteriously, BECOME the Phantom. His every move and gesture, his every nuance of sound, was that of the tortured genius who loves Christine. He was heartbreaking, he was brilliant.

Should I have been surprised? Of course not. He designed the role of Phantom and gave his soul and heart to it. He LIVED the Phantom. And still does when he appears on the stage. Nonetheless, the glory of his Phantom overwhelmed me.

It took the genius of Michael Crawford to breathe life into the Phantom. It will take Michael Crawford to bring that genius to the movie, and to make the movie into Warner Bros.’ and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s greatest moment. Phantom fans, old and new, will fill the theatres and rush to buy the CD and the video.

How could Warner Bros. possibly pass up this opportunity? Ceeeceee

Comments: Hello everyone!! I would just like to make one thing cler before I post this--I am a 22 year-old female totally in love/lust with Michael!! I've been a fan for years and after seeing him live on Stage this past summer, I am totally apalled that any Hollywood actor could be considered for this role rather than Michael!! Give me a break!! Michael was the original equation with produced the original successful formula! Take him out of the equation and you have no formula! There have been numerous "takes" on this movie by Hollywood and other film producers and none of them have been the blockbuster success that they would have hoped for. Then, Lord Lloyd Webber created his version with his beautiful, touching music starring the only actor/singer who could truly become this man, vocally, mentally, and physically. Now, the story is an incredible box office success and it is due to this one man who actually captured the hearts of audience members for the first time. What makes them think that even with Andrew's music that this movie won't just be another of the failures they have made in the past WITHOUT Michael? Michael made this musical and any audience member or critic in the world will tell you that!! So, why take such a risk? Worried about box office appeal? Promote him as the original Phantom in London, NY, and LA and you've got a done deal!! Come on--wake up everyone!! Only this man has enough talent and sexual charisma to pull this off on film! (He's the sexiest man alive!!) Also, what makes music beautiful? Beautiful voices, right? Dare you to cast a Hollywood "name" without a beautiful voice? Hello!! Anyone home?? Thank you!! Love, Caroline

Comments: After seeing Michael Crawford as the Phantom at the Ahmanson & then others on tours, I believe there is absolutely no other actor who can do justice to the role in the movie. If WB truely thinks that Crawford is not the name for this role then they should try an experiment: float a rumor through the trade papers, an ad in the NY papers or one of the showbiz columnists that Crawford will reprise his performance as the Phantom at the Majestic for 3-6 months. Watch the bedlam that results from people trying to get tickets. People paid $70 a ticket to see Crawford multiple times on stage - think of the repeat movie business, video & soundtrack sales from these same people. The original cast recording still attracts people to POTO. It's Crawford they hear. It's Crawford these people want to see in the movie. Thanks.

Comments: Hello, I am so glad we raised the money for the Variety ad. Phantom Of The Opera was a classic piece of theater. The story was well written and the songs inspired. The framework was excellent from the conception of the show. Everyone loves a sory of love beyond immagination. I expected a successful show. When I went to see it I was transfixed to the stage. Magic was happening! The reason was the star of the show. Michael sang like a voice from heaven! He showed emotion from his soul. It was so believable that it captured and tormented our hearts. We could feel his pain! What an incredible love he showed us. The musical would still be at full strength if he were there. It is like watching some dream come true. The music of the night was over when Michael left. No one has come close to his performance and no one will. The thought of a movie sounded wonderful until I heard a few comments from the actors considered for the role. John travolta said the music should be easier than Grease. It is opera! The music is filled with emotion and needs an incredible range. I shuddered at this. Antonio said of course the character will have to change to fit me. I could weep! A classic musical performance turned into a mockery of Hollywood. Michael is the only one fit to play this role. He created it! Musicals have never transfered to the screen because Hollywood doesn't consider its audience. We are intelligent thoughtful people that don't just faint over a pretty face and accept a thin plot. We know when something is right and this movie is very wrong! I won't go see a half done production and I won't accept anyone, but Michael. He has just had a tour and reminded everyone how well he did the role. We won't forget! Debra B

Comments: How does one begin to describe the incomparable experience of seeing Michael Crawford perform the title role in POTO? Having been lucky enough to see him perform the role at the Ahmanson, it is an experience that I and many others would certainly like to relive via the medium of film. Michael Crawford is the best living actor of today's musical theater stage, and to deprive movie audiences (both current and future) of seeing him recreate the role for which he is most famous is doing an extreme disservice to those who could not see him in London, New York, or Los Angeles. I wish that the powers that be would consider the effects that Mr. Crawford had on the local box offices while he was performing in Phantom, and extrapolate those results to cinema box office. People saw the show dozens of times, some even hundreds, while he performed the role, at much higher live theater ticket prices. Filming POTO with Michael Crawford has the potential to become another *Titanic,* with millions going again and again to experience the romance and emotion of the story. As far as qualifications for the role, Michael Crawford's singing and movement, along with the emotional jolt that he delivers to the audience can't be replicated by any other actor, stage or film. Please listen to the fans of the show. We are the potential paying audience for the film, and there isn't any other choice for the role of the Phantom. Michael Crawford IS the Phantom.

Comments: Dear TMCPMC, My godmother is a member of this group. I thought she was crazy to get involved in something like this and then she showed me a tape of Michael Crawford singing the "Music ofthe Night" on a special he did with Bob Hope. OH, God, what a guy! I was totally turned on! I went with Audie to see him in concert twice in New Jersey this summer! OH MY GOD again!!! I now have every album and tape he ever made except ones like "Conder Man" which you can't get. I can hardly wait for my husband to go out sometimes so I can play the CD's full blast! Could this be love? I wish I could have seen MC do POTO on stage. He was only an hour and a half away and I never went. I hope you are successful and he gets the movie. The tape of it will keep me warm when Ron goes off to hunt deer! ;) Good Luck to you all! Love you Audie, "The Brat" Sharon

Comments: To Lord Lloyd Webber and the Movie Folks at Warner Brothers: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! It's THAT simple. Michael Crawford MUST be signed to portray 'The Phantom' in the movie of "The Phantom of the Opera." Why meddle with (and muddle up) success and ignore the ONLY actor/singer for the role? Yours Truly, Anne Epstein

Comments: I absolutely cannot believe Warner Bros. would consider anyone else but Michael Crawford. There aren't any more ways to say the film will be a runaway success WITH Mr. Crawford, and a total, dismal, possibly laughable failure without him. As a fan of the musical, I would hate to see that happen. I've heard Mr. Crawford's voice "in my head" as the Phantom for ages, but only recently became aware of his physical charisma through his PBS special and a concert appearance. If anyone has any doubts about the Crawford/Phantom connection they only have to witness his performance of his signature songs...without benefit of mask or makeup, he BECOMES the Phantom before your eyes. It is possitively breath-taking. I wouldn't waste a 99 cent video rental to see anyone else in the role. Warner Bros., for once do something very wise and savvy, cast the sure thing. You literally cannot lose.

Comments: Phantom needs neither sequel, nor film version. If any were unfortunately to arise, the role belongs to MC and none other. Enough said.

Comments: Hi, I have been following the information on Michael Crawford and the Movie Campaign for quite awhile. You and your page have been doing an outstanding service for the thousands, if not millions of Michael Crawford fans out there. My wife first became aware of Michael about 1993 /1994 and immediately became an instant fan, saying farewell to Niel Diamond. I had no idea who Michael Crawford was but through my wifes interest I soon noticed his qualities, his fantastic voice, and mybe even more so his inner feelings that he releasers to an audience everytime he performs. He is a genuine human being, he loves people, and from his Charitable affiliations he certainly loves children. He shows this in whatever media he is performing in, the camera catches his willingness to share himself with an audience, openly, freely and completely, if you are a phoney-baloney the camera will see it, not with him. It is obvious I have been taken by this performer, I often watch his PBS Video T.V. Special, I have yet to show any signs of tiring of watching it. I am a Fan and will remain one. I sincerely hope that all the efforts of you and your numerous followers are successful in bringing Warner Bros. around to doing the only right thing, casting Michael Crawford in the role he was born to do, the role he wants to do, the role he created and the role he was promised he would do. Thank you for letting me give my thoughts on the man, he may be British by birth but he has earned an Honorary American Citenzenship, he seems to legitimately love being here in the Colonies, we certainly should openly thank Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the British People for sharing him with us. Thanks again.
