The show was taped for Public Television's "Great Performances" series, and is scheduled to be aired on television during the March PBS pledge drive. A CD recording, a home video cassette and DVD will be made from the live performance.
Michael Crawford sang two songs... "Music of the Night" which closed the first act, we heard it went GREAT and was one of his finest renditions ever!!! He then stayed on stage accepting the applause (which went on for quite awhile.) When it eventually died down he said something along the lines of, "I just wanted to say, I was told to stay standing here; I wasn't begging." That got a big laugh, then he ducked down as the curtain was falling to wave at the audience.
But GUESS WHAT ELSE?????????????
Julie Andrews and Michael CLOSED THE SHOW TOGETHER and SHE SANG WITH HIM, singing for the first time in public since her surgery!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! The number with Julie reportedly, "brought the house down." It received a full-fledged standing ovation, and people were "overjoyed" and "electrified!!" Michael sang, "I've grown accustomed to her face." Then Julie Andrews appeared on stage, and after a few lines between them she sang, "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain," to which Michael, after the initial "By George, I think she's got it!" sang the lines, "Now, once again... Where does it rain?" Julie sang, "On the plain, in Spain..." and the audience "went wild," standing ecstatically and cheering!!! Then they DANCED TOGETHER!!!!!!!!! Michael dipped her elaborately and they held that pose for a long time, which got even more enthusiastic clapping and whistling, with the crowd still on their feet!!! Finally, he was able to get out the famous line, "Eliza, where are my slippers?"
