'Phantom' heads for fall launch with Schumacher

The film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage musical "The Phantom of the Opera," in gestation for the screen since the early 1990s, appears on its way for a fall start with Joel Schumacher officially on board to direct. Lloyd Webber will produce the film under his production banner Really Useful Films.

International sales are set to begin Wednesday at the American Film Market in Santa Monica under the guidance of sales and financing company Odyssey Entertainment headed by Ralph Kamp.

No cast is attached but key members are being lined up to be unveiled at this year's AFM.
